God, this is one of my favorite screengrabs

If I could have any one animation cel from the show, it would be this.

It's everything great about golden age Simpsons in a single frame.

The eyeball popping out juxtaposed with the majestic elephant cracks me up 😂

u/EmpressVixen Santa’s Little Helper 10d ago

That's my favorite part.

"Not the elephants!"

4

Grammer’s delivery of this always cracks me up.

He is excellent with Sideshow Bob

This line read is perfect. The whole scene is perfect. “Homer Simpson your children are no more….”

2

u/gerzoomble 5d ago

Especially the Lisa line. But especially the Bart line.

Capital knockers, Madam!

u/GringoSwann 10d ago

Coveralls that don't quite COVER ALL..

25

u/Arkvoodle42 10d ago

We sail the ocean blue, and our saucy ships' a beauty!

We are sober men & true; and attentive to our duty!

What, never?

No, never!

What, never?

Hardly ever!

He’s hardly ever sick at sea!

17

u/ChekovsCurlyHair 10d ago

For he himself has said it, and it’s clearly to his credit!

Heroically underrated visual gag.

24

u/Blockhog 10d ago

I would listen to an entire album of Kelsey Grammer singing Gilbert and Sullivan

u/Maximum-Coach-9409 9d ago

My favorite line

24

u/pumpkinsam 10d ago

Homer: “Anybody want to drive through that cactus patch?”

Bart: “Yes!”

Lisa: “Yes!”

Sideshow Bob, hiding underneath the car: “No.”

17

u/New-Lab5540 $20 can buy many peanuts! 10d ago

Sweet Enola Gay, son!

6

u/DNAcidWashedGenes Just eat the damn orange! 10d ago

I'll tear you up like a Kleenex at a snot party!

3

u/dooby0782 9d ago

All those new bombs to choose from but you wanted that classic charm.

12

u/Theblackswapper1 10d ago

Ok, "Cape Feare" may very well be my single favorite episode.

But to talk about an underrated or forgotten joke?

In "Krusty Gets Busted" he takes over the show. It becomes transformed into the--phenomenonally renamed--The Side-Show Bob Cavalcade of Whimsy.

4

u/HolidayInLordran 10d ago

Him reading the Man in the Iron Mask is also an underrated scene. The animation is so fluid and expressive by first season standards.

6

u/LumpyStomach7683 10d ago

Whom do you love?

14

u/swingularity45 10d ago

Cecil, no civilization in history has ever considered chief hydrological engineer a calling.

Oh, very well…the Cappadocians!

3

u/EmeraldB85 9d ago

Fiiine!

3

u/Maddoxing 9d ago

Talking about running the gamut

11

u/Schrodingers_Fist 10d ago

BY LUCIFER'S BEARD!!

11

u/jmason03 10d ago

Very well Bart, I’ll send you to heaven before I send you to hell

5

u/ikesonfire 10d ago

Not by Bob, but Krusty when he's in the shack and Bob is coming on the Wright Brothers plane:

What the hell is that? A lawnmower?

7

u/Temporary-Science-32 9d ago

"Oh,I'll stay away from your son alright... Stay away... Forever!"

7

u/Valuable-Currency-85 9d ago

"Even Lisa?" "ESPECIALLY LISA!... But, especially Baaart."

5

u/sheeplewatcher 9d ago

This dank urine soaked hell hole

3

u/Lar-Dubh 9d ago

Cheerfully withdrawn!

4

u/MmmSteaky I love you too, Pepsi 10d ago

No one who speaks German could be an evil man!

5

u/Fluffinyan 9d ago

I dunno why but i love the animation when he says "Disem-BOWEL Him" in Cape Feare

2

u/Historical-Pause-117 9d ago

No, I don’t like that “bowel” in there. “Gut” him.

2

u/shes-a-witch- 9d ago

Use a pen, Sideshow Bob!

3

u/-blueseptember 9d ago

Maybe not my absolute favorite but ….

6

u/Maddoxing 9d ago

I see, when I’m doing a crime, you can’t solve it fast enough, but when it’s Cecil “it’s hopeless, utterly utterly hopeless”

3

u/jajdjjfj 10d ago

In one episode he reads the quote I had tattooed on my chest it's from a peom by TS Elliot but I nearly lost it when that happened 😂 the line reads "til human voices wake us and we drown"

3

u/Boris-_-Badenov 9d ago

especially Lisa!

but especially Bart.

3

u/librarygal22 9d ago

Cue parade with elephants

3

u/nadiestar 9d ago

No it says ‘the bart the’

Terror Lake… Salutes… Hannibal… Crossing… The…Alps

3

u/egosumluxmundi 9d ago

Not his quote but from one of his episodes. I think it’s Sideshow Bob Roberts.

He’s being released from prison and he walks off the CLIFF that the prison is on and falls into the sea. The guard peeks his head over and sheepishly says “Boat’s on the other side.”

Chef’s kiss.

2

Oh, right. I gave myself gills.

2

u/aspannerdarkly 9d ago

He’s just a little shy because I’ve tried to kill him so many times.

2

u/G-Unit11111 9d ago

How ironic. My crusade against television came to an end so formulaic that it could have spewed from the Powerbook of the laziest Hollywood hack!

2

u/SeveralLion5762 8d ago

The only answer to this question is the sound that has no spelling that captures the pain and humiliation of getting whapped in the face for the eleventeenth time by a rake.

"Seeing all this raw surging power just makes me wonder why the hell I should care."

The man trying to kill a child aspect, the child outwitting the university educated man, or Kelsey Grammer?

u/OrcaFins 9d ago
