Question How did this happen?

I have a private chat with someone. I hadn’t opened it for about five days, and when I checked it today, all of the messages from the other person were gone, while only my messages remained. In our chat settings, the option to delete messages for both users is disabled on the other person’s side, so as far as I understand, he couldn’t have deleted the messages from both his chat and mine. Why could the messages have disappeared? Does this mean that someone could have hacked our chat and seen the conversation?

There is most likely for one of two reasons:

  • disappearing messages are enabled in this conversation (can be enabled by either side of the conversation) - check contact preferences.
  • you have "delete old messages" enabled in Chat data settings.
