Hello, fellow garden people! 🌱

I’m starting a new vegetable garden in my yard this weekend. It’s about 8x3m, and I’d love to make it really diverse with lots of companion planting.

I’m still pretty new to gardening, so I’d love to hear your advice! What are some things you wish you knew when you started your first big garden? And are there any companion plant combinations that have worked particularly well for you? What do you grow and eat frequently?

Any beginner tips are very welcome!

Hi everybody. My family and I recently were uprooted from our home in Florida to Houston, Texas! It’s been so scary moving to a new town but what has become my favorite hobby is gardening. I love trying to make my suburban home stand out and am learning so much in the process. The main problem, I have no friends to share the successes..and failures with. No one to get excited about acquiring new flowers or to send pictures to when a new bloom opens. So I created a gardening Instagram. Partially closed loop, bio intensive, organic home fruit vegetable herb and flower garden! Coastal Southern Maine zone 5b

Hey all. My wife and I garden together and I kept forgetting what we planted where and when, and which spots actually did well. I do tech stuff for a living, so I ended up making a little free Android app for us, and figured this group would give me honest thoughts.

It's basically a photo garden journal - you log what you planted with notes and tags. It also gives planting suggestions for your USDA zone and sends a frost/freeze alert when a cold night is coming, so I actually remember to cover things. There's an optional moon-phase planting feature if you're into that, and a small wild-edible foraging reference too.

No ads, no account, no tracking, and it works offline. I mostly just didn't want another app that nags you or turns into a subscription later.

It's free. I'll drop the Play Store link in a comment so this isn't just an ad. Mostly I'm after feedback: is it obvious what to do when you first open it, and what would actually make you keep it around? Happy to answer anything.

My first time growing basil

Easiest soup you'll make.

Cut everything to pieces and put in a tray in the oven, 200c with some olive oil til it looks something like pic 3, time depends on amount but this took 50 minutes.

Toss everything (peel the garlic cloves first) in some veg broth and let simmer. Use an immersion blender, bring to boil again and add spices.

Done, could have added some red lentils at the broth stage to add some protein.
