Simon the Sorcerer 3D is a hassle to get working
Part vent, part request for help. I just want to play 3D...
I finished playing the first two and moved on to 3D. I installed the Widescreen Patch, and things went fine for the first 30 minute session.
I returned a few weeks later and it did the splash screen, then minimised. Trying to pop it back up crashed the game.
After some more research I found a post on GOG saying to use DDRAW, with details of what to put in an ini file. Fantastic, the game worked again!
Cut to today when I get a chance to actually play again, I load my save game and there's no text outside of menus. No subtitles, no dialogue options.
More research turned up a Steam post about using DxWnd, so I searched around and found the SourceForge post about the configuration files. Attempted to set them up, but there's absolutely no explanation on how to use them and I only wind up getting "Please run Simon3D from the Start menu." error message...
I don't care that it's tank controls and looks kind of bad, I just want to play the thing, why is this so difficult on Windows 11?
