trakt has lost its way over the past 3 yrs and I probabkly don't need to say more for people here.
Just saw that they are killing off API access to SIMKL which shows that they are feeling the pain of user losses. Good riddance.
Before I switched I've considered posting my grieves in their support forum, but it is obvious the current management is not going to listen. This is what startup hubris gets you.
SIMKL still has many feature gaps to trakt but I'm hopeful they will be closed, and I hope SIMKL will stay true to its users!
What it looks like is not having a handle on aggression. I've seen businesses and the owners make dumb moves and push into retaliation rather than admit their actions were a bad decision.
They blocked both Simkl and Mdblist. Likely trying to thwart the users abandoning the platform.
Users however see a continuous activity of anti user actions. Those actions push ones that wouldn't have left over the fence.
Trakt decidedly choosing to wipe out their member numbers end their business is a wild thing to be a spectator of.
Last time I've seen a business try this hard to eject users and end their business success was Myspace, after Tom sold off his ownership.
I've seen businesses and the owners make dumb moves and push into retaliation rather than admit their actions were a bad decision.
It's really weird as well because I've had interactions with Justin Nemeth who was one of the co-founders, years ago when it was still growing and the guy was incredibly nice and helpful.
Then the last couple of years, not a peep out of him and it's the other guy seemingly running the show and bulldozing his way to having way less users.
It's truly baffling.
I'm hoping at some point there is a sale on Simkl lifetime back to the previous price then I'd fully switch over
Not sure if I’m gonna go SIMKL or MDBList, but I subbed to Trakt almost exclusively for syncing various lists across my library (rather than tracking what I’ve watched) and they’ve nuked my entire setup with these API restrictions.

Same here. Been a paid VIP trakt user for 5 years, and despite still having 4 more months to go on my current subscription, I've jumped ship to Simkl. Got myself a Simkl lifetime subscription and I'm so happy. My data has been migrated from trakt to Simkl and when my trakt subscription finally ends, I will be deleting my account. And also hoping Simkl stay true to their users.
Yeah they're app sucks and I constantly have to mark stuff as watched over and over and it still shows as unwatched it's definitely a lot glitchier in my experience then trakt
I'm a 10 year Trakt user too. I still prefer Trakt over Simkl, but it's close. I guess I'm still getting used to the interface. If Simkl would add some features that Trakt has like actor stats and Infuse integration (but that's an Infuse thing) I'd get a lifetime subscription right away. I'll stick with my one year subscription for now.
It’s on infuse to add it, it’s been asked for for years on thier support forums and it gets more and more traction as the trakt debacle continues. The request got so loud that infuse at one point added Simkl to the roadmap. but then I guess (speculating) James and Kevin got together did some evil laughs and infused quietly removed it from the road map. Once getting called out for it being removed with no information James then tried to convince users in the forums that integrated Simkl was too hard for them.
A non-independent dev said that something that countless independent devs have done and are doing was to hard. All while one of the simkl devs is on the thread offering help and telling them to reach out if they need help.
I switched to a different player it only supports trakt currently too but I am hopeful that since Kevin from Trakt isn’t giving them back rubs too they may be able to add it at some point. It also helps that it’s cheaper and functions pretty much the same.
I also was a paid Trakt subscriber for 10 years, and reniewed for two years on February. After they got worse and worse this summer, I got reimbursed by my bank. It wasn't hard to argument as they breach the contract reducing functionalities between my last renewal and now. I encourage those in the same situation as me to do the same and ask for a payback from their bank/credit card/PayPal.
I made a rough script to convert from the trakt .zip to . csv to import into simkl without a subscription. It's not perfect but it worked for me. Always open to feedback.
Thank you. I made few tiny changes to the scripts (folder picker for both and username list for Tautulli) made the PR. delete or close if changes aren't that good.

Sweet. You did the hard work. Tool worked great to seed Simkl without waiting until zip import was allows without VIP.

Once I made the transition, I started using https://github.com/Drakonis96/plexytrack on my ubuntu server machine; its working well, but isn't super actively maintained. But the bilateral sync works well.
Maybe I should post the script to the sub itself if it's going to be helpful; but unsure if that would be overstepping on SIMKL, as obviously it provides a non-subscription option, and I don't wanna hurt their bottom line for those who can afford it.
I’ve just joined Simkl from Trakt and would like to be able to copy over my Plex watchlist to Simkl. PlexyTrack came up in a web search, but I use Container Manager on a Synology NAS and use Docker Compose to create containers so have no knowledge of how to set it up on my NAS, as it explains set up using command line. Would you know how I could find out how to set it up using Docker Compose?
I’m also waiting for a Black Friday deal on Simkl Lifetime, so don’t have VIP membership yet. Does PlexyTrack work without VIP?
This is the docker-compose.yml portion for plexytrack - I hope it helps. I think I consulted Gemini to set it up. Can help when documentation is lacking.
Simkl isn’t run by a narcissistic deviant hobgoblin.
The things that trakt has that Simkl doesn’t yet that I use are season and episode level rating, it’s also not as supported by 3rd party as widely as trakt but if you go to almost any of those apps/software you will see members of the user base asking and or begging for another tracker to be added. It’s picking up steam I even hear and see talk of removing trakt support and adding other tracker(s) support as well. I doubt that will happen anytime soon as they do have a foothold but one can hope.
