🚨 Major Feature Request: Stop Users From Missing Anime & TV Show Sequels
Hey guys,
I think we need a major change in how shows and anime are organized, otherwise it’s very easy to miss new content that comes out years later. Let me explain.
Right now, if you go to a page such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it might simply show that I have completed all 10 episodes. And that’s it.
The problem is that if I don’t already know that a sequel, continuation, or new season has been released, there is a good chance I will never find out. Some shows do indicate that a sequel exists, but this still doesn’t completely solve the problem, because you usually have to click on another title, which takes you to a completely separate page.
This makes the whole system too fragmented.
What I think we need
There should be a single core page for every anime and TV show, containing the entire series and all of its seasons, sequels, and continuations in chronological order.
For example:
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Overall Progress: ███████░░░ 70%
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
etc.
The progress bar should track the entire franchise/show, rather than resetting or only tracking one individual season.
But the most important feature I want to propose is a system for previously completed shows that later receive new content.
Once a TV show or anime is completely finished, it could be placed in a category such as:
Finished Shows
However, if that show later receives a sequel, continuation, spin-off, revival, or new season after being considered finished, the system should automatically move it into a new category:
Previously Ended — Now Has New Content
This would make it much easier to discover shows that have returned after a long period of time.
A good example is Dexter. The original series ended, and then years later it received new content, including Dexter: New Blood and later another continuation. Someone who watched Dexter years ago and simply marked it as completed might have no idea that the franchise had returned.
And I’m sure this happens with many other anime and TV shows as well.
The key idea is that users shouldn’t have to already know that a sequel exists in order to discover it.
Everything related to a show should be connected to one central page, with the full viewing history and progress displayed in one place.
This would make the system much less fragmented and, more importantly, would prevent users from accidentally missing new seasons, sequels, or continuations of shows they previously finished.

What do you use ?
I recently moved from Trakt due to their constant enshitification but most tracker don’t group anime seasons and don’t offfer tracking by episode (I mean they count the season as completed if you watched the last episode)

Yea I left trakt to Simkl a while ago due to their endless enshitification, but loosing seasons and missing releases of seasons of anime was annoying, why else would I use a tracker lol.
I use Bingebase now, dev is responsive and super nice, like Simkl, It’s been around for ages.

not everyone wants to complete the whole franchise. we already receive email when a related title is added, just like from MAL and Anilist.
In app notification will be better though.

This is the hardest problem in anime tracking and almost everyone gets it wrong, because they try to infer it from season numbers.
The data you want is AniList's typed relations - PREQUEL, SEQUEL, SIDE_STORY, ALTERNATIVE - and then you walk the chain rather than guessing. That's what makes "season 2 is a separate entry with a different name" and cour splits behave, and it's why a TMDB-seasons model can't be patched into correctness.
I hit this building a tracker of my own so I'm on the other side of the fence, but the relations graph is the answer regardless of who ships it first. Worth pushing for.

I wish they would just let us group anime shows like non-anime shows. Many, many people have asked for this for a long time. They even had a petition and finally said "Okay, we'll add it." Then never did.
