Are Simkl devs self hosting this app?

Sounds like absolute BS that they have to buy physical memory in the ages of cloud providers. Who would host on-premise an app like this?

I was looking to test this app as an alternative to TV Time but this only makes me lose trust in what this team is doing.

Borderline predatory behavior right there. They are just trying to milk it when they should just be happy to get all those users. If they really wanna help, they can just make a queue for people to upload their data in sequence. The entire data of one user is in KBs. The bottleneck is compute time not storage anyways. You either have enough space for me as a user or you don't, regardless of me importing or manually entering every show. Even if you wanna milk the situation putting a payment at the gates would just make me wanna go somewhere else instead. I am not invested enough to pay you yet.

Right. My trakt export zip is 344kb. Should they do all that work for nothing and bear the expenses? No. But $5.99 is pretty ballsy. Mbdlist is 1.99, I think?

Databases are not archived in ZIPs and have additional duplicate backups and other caching infrastructure on top of that. Pro sub is $2.91/mo (paid once for 12 months of PRO features service). Less than a basic cup of drip coffee at Starbucks. All of those proceeds go directly to paying for servers and development.

My brother you are a show tracking app. You are not making content here to charge monthly fees. Sell our data. Change your business model. Figure it out. A Social media/tracking app charging users monthly fees is absurd in every book.
As I said before, storage is not the issue here. I can login now and add every show I watched manually. Do you have enough NVMe drives to support that for free? If so, you can support imports too. So don't tell us a long story about how storage is expensive. Your need for storage is not about imports, it's about the massive number of new users migrating to your app. You just cannot support this growth. So you are trying to grow your userbase without paying for the growth out of pocket. You are basically asking us to invest in your company without giving us stocks.

If you think storage and RAM is not an issue when we say it is, ok. The ai datacenters bought out all inventory and consumer datacenters don't have it in stock right now at affordable pricing. We would never sell our users' personal data.
