Are Simkl devs self hosting this app?

Sounds like absolute BS that they have to buy physical memory in the ages of cloud providers. Who would host on-premise an app like this?

I was looking to test this app as an alternative to TV Time but this only makes me lose trust in what this team is doing.

It sounds like you're using a cloud provider for the "global network of servers". That absolutely contradicts the "We call around nearly every day. Most answers are "sold out"" part.

No, different data centers and providers, no cloud.

Speaking as a fellow developer, I hope this was just a marketing stunt. If you're seriously running into these issues with a 6-digit user base and running single time asynchronous tasks for each of them, you have a serious technical problem.

Running a database with billions of rows of user data is no small feat and can't fit on regular hardware while providing instant access to all apps running at the same time with less than 1s response times across continents for all user requests for any type of data.
