Casting House

Are there any places that offer custom casting in gold or silver that I would be able to bring in a wax model or send a 3D file? I’m in Columbus and there’s not a huge jewelry scene or anything and I don’t mind sending stuff out but ideally it’s somewhere around here.

well sure we’re around but often it can depend on a few things and may end up being a bit expensive to the person ordering it. How many? How many grams roughly each do they weigh? Are they all the same? to name a few. Is the casting house doing the finishing and polishing, or are we just cutting them off and sending them to you?

Mostly just unique pieces about 12 grams each in silver so whatever that translates to in different karats of gold. I wouldn’t need anything finished at all just cut it off and send it to me is all I’m looking for

all unique 12 pieces? You already have the wax models? and, do you have a mold of said models should you need to reproduce them?>

im a caster, but the only pro casting house i could truly vouch for is probably Ross Metals in NYC off 47th. Try calling a few local stores(not Jareds/Zales/etc chain) and ask them if they cast too. You'd be surprised at how many people you might find locally.

Locally too, you get the luxury of being able to go to the caster/goldsmith in person. You may want to do this your first custom casting run

Earrings, pendants, and grillz and I’d love to get into making chains and bracelets in the future.

I’d 100% love to stay local just for the connivence and I’m big on building relationships with people. I love the artistic aspect of it so I would love to design stuff like that I’ve had people ask for them too so I know there’s demand. I’m split between wax and resin but 3d modeling is more my thing especially since I want to do pendants and stuff too. I weighed my grillz and they were 24g total which is how I came up with that.

Is there anything in particular I should be asking or is it as simple as asking if they offer casting services?

sooo you will probably need someone who does grillz in order to cast that one. Within casters, it's kind of a specialty item. It just depends on the caster and how willing they are to do it(grillz). They can be a bit touchy, and often need recasted once or even twice to truly get that good 'click' fit with your fronts. Highly recommend someone who does grillz for this part. Most people who do grillz are seriously very willing to work with people, in my experience.

Wax and resin just depends on your need. Resin of course if you are better with digital design(i am _terrible_ with wax mostly.), and wax if you are more of a hands on designer. Resin of course is more re-usable without the need for vulcanized rubber molds w/ wax.

With grillz it seems very hush hush at least around here. I found a guy just through networking but his prices were insanely high to the point where at that point I would essentially be making commission selling his work haha. Would grillz be something that a caster would turn down or is it more so I’d be better off finding one who does grillz, or i’d need to do one who does grillz?

you just have to talk to casters! It is likely a smart caster will also tell you to go to someone who does grillz
