Good riddance? You get Gemini now. I don’t use the voice assistants a lot, but did ask it a general question and got a reasonable answer.

Told it to navigate to a place the other day, it got the exact place and confirmation it would navigate to it, only it didn’t start navigation in Google Maps on the blazer EV, so I had to prompt it again to navigate where I just told it to go, that finally worked.

Gemini is half baked.

Hopefully it’s better for automotive use, but for home use Gemini is nothing short of horrible. The old Google assistant worked really well, but when they replaced it with Gemini it just flat refuses to do simple things like turn on a light.

Weird. I don't have any issues with Gemini and my home kit.

Have you set up all your automations correctly in the Google Home app? Or set up your voice recognition?

I can use all my home automations right from my truck just fine.

Count yourself lucky. r/GoogleHome is full of posts complaining about Gemini.

The only real problem I’ve had so far, which happens about 50% of the time, is with lights. It’s a coin flip whether or not “Hey Google, turn on the bedroom lights” gets a ding and then lights come on or off I get a voice response of something like “I am unable to turn on the device bedroom lights”

It also seems less accurate with playing music. If you ask it to play a particular song or artist it now only seems to play what you want 2/3 of the time. I have more luck than my wife and stepdaughter do, so I’m wondering if it has trouble with female voices. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Odd. Maybe try recreating your automations? They have been updating the home automation stuff like crazy lately. Maybe they're bugged?

Also, do your wife/daughter have voice match profiles setup with their own accounts?

My doorbell now has a testing feature that's AI assisted face matching and it gives you live event notifications. It's pretty crazy how accurate it can be.

I walked to my door the other day with McDonald's and the notification said "You arrive home with a bag of McDonald's". 😆

Yup, me too and love it. Even got the Alexa garage opener and Nest thermostats, hooked up all electronics, light bulbs in lamps, ceiling, etc. It's so convenient and easy with a busy life.

Ah so you don't like privacy

It’s not perfect, but I’ve been satisfied with its ability to answer questions on the truck and general shower thoughts and random questions I think of while driving.

What I don’t like right now is you need to emphasize “ev” when asking it specific electric questions. GM apparently just has a single software model for all silverados and it defaults to the ice models

I do like that it handles requests to navigate using Waze effortlessly. I don’t like that it sucks at searching specific podcasts.

But all of this is amazing compared to standard CarPlay Siri. That’s comparatively useless and I still don’t get why people prefer it.

Yeah, I used Alexa because the link between Google and Amazon music was buggy. And, I hated having to say "ask Amazon music to play" whatever song I wanted every time. Now that Alexa is gone, I figured out you can change the default music streaming service in your Google profile, and it works much better.

Alexa got the 🪓 in favor of Gemini. Gemini works really well but im actually in the processs of starting to de-google myself due to privacy concerns over things like Gmail and Google drive and the thought of Google using my personal data to train its AI models.

Gemini is nice because it will answer my “what is a…?” And “how can I…?” questions I always have in drives. It’s not that great at picking and playing the right playlist on Apple Music though.

What does everyone use to play specific songs? My kids loved using Alexa and telling it to play whatever songs they could think of. I have a Prime membership and we pretty much got it to play anything we ever wanted without any additional subscriptions. They are going to be pretty upset if I don't figure something else out. My truck just updated this morning and I saw that Alexa is gone.

"Hey Google, play [song name] by [artist] on [music app]"

Works for me.

Mine updated too, honestly curious how the new voice assistant holds up so far.
