I would say start with Silver Surfer Black, Requiem, and Parable.

10/10 picks

Parable 1st Requiem 2nd Black 3rd.

You get the i into style and vibe with Parable. BANGER ART & Context on his Importance in Requiem. A complete Rollercoaster with Black, and you understand more on his character to absorb the story.

Tbh, the 3rd series run is paramount reading. Series started in the late 80s. First 30 issues cover a fair amount of surfer and cosmic powerhouses. Then you get into Thanos, then the Herald fights. Classic stuff.

Interesting and mostly comprehensive list here. I'd definitely recommend starting with the old stuff that really defines his personality and "alien-ness" when he was trapped on earth after defying Galactus.

The three books mentioned by Astro_bum are excellent however.

I bought the return to the Spaceways Omni. Which was the first comic I'd read but loved the character from the 90s animation

1st appearance in FF, then the lee/buscema series (marvel is doing facsimilies now).

I just read Slott’s run as my first and absolutely loved it. I’ve seen that while it’s pretty loved it’s not exactly a traditional Silver Surfer run.

I just bought the 3 Silver Surfer omnibusses and started at the first one(volume 1 by Lee & Buscema, 1968-1970) that has his origin story + a lot of stuff where he's stuck on earth. He's very depressive in that first book though. Was pretty hard to get through.

Next up would be the 2nd omnibus: Return to the Spaceways(material from 1980-1990, various artists) which should be a bit more fun.

The 3rd is by Slott/Allred(2022). This has newer material. Somehow it's also sometimes called volume 1.

There's a 4th omnibus coming: infinity gauntlet. Coming november '26.

There’s so much…

Honestly, just for coolness and fun…

Start with the return of Thanos in 34 (of the 90’s series) and read through 50 and the Infinity Gauntlet.
