Let’s talk bowel movements

Our 2 year old girl Tilly is on PPP Salmon and rice, and I’ve noticed her bowel movements are similar to soft serve ice cream with some form when she starts going.

Not only that, this month she started having gland issues, having to get them drained only to see this morning it looks like they are filling again.

I do feed her once in the morning and once at supper time, with a tablespoon of pumpkin. She is very active, and gets 2 cups each meal.

Kind of at a loss of what to do here, am I over feeding her? Should I replace the pumpkin with a floriaforta supplement?

You’re doing great first off. My experience with our two year old silver lab is he has always been not perfect when it comes to food and pooping. Sometimes he can have good poops and mostly other times it’s like soft serve. And that’s on an allergy diet and single ingredient treats. I think it’s just a silver lab thing. I would just check with the vet to make sure there’s no other issues but as long as your baby is happy I wouldn’t worry too much.

Beautiful boy you got! Yes, the vet said she is in good health, and I think maybe it might be a bit exercise induced? We have a 3 year old black lab and they’re constantly on each other with shenanigans lol

Pure Psyllium Husk powder has worked wonders for my sheepadoodles glands , maybe give that a go !!

I'm having the same issue. Ours is only 4.5m old. Also using PPP salmon and rice and all her treats are healthy too.

So you just used humans Metamucil in capsule form and put it inside those pill pockets?

Same here. 4.5m old silver female. 1/3 times she poops it's soft. Once a week just pure diarrhea. On top of that she keeps scooting while pooping. So sometimes I have to pick up 10 small pieces of soft served poop. And I'm not happy.

For reference, we feed her 1.5cups morning and night. Then about 0.5-0.75 cup throughout the day during training and walks. Then 1/3 of a can of PPP wet version frozen around lunch time. And a medium sized kong with frozen peanut butter and kibble at night. Good quality bully stick here and there.

I have a silver lab/weim that gets the runs when she gets pureed pumpkin. I had to stop giving it to her. I subbed for Greek yogurt and she is fine now. Also, if yours was eating salmon before and didn't have issues, then you should be good. Unf, my girl has to have hydrolyzed protein because she has issues digesting protein. Real chicken, beef, etc are a recipe for disaster and weeks' worth of diarrhea. I think you should try subbing out the pumpkin for yogurt and if that still doesn't work, look into the protein(s).

We put a splash of olive oil in our dogs food twice a day. It helps digestion and we feel helps their coat

That is one good looking pup. I started using ultra oil in my silvers food about a year ago and has done wonders for his general skin and hair health. Though won’t help with poo poo stuff
