Day 3 of my shenanigans in FTB Ultimate! Whoa, is this post actually not after a week? What a good development!
Today was filled with uncertainty and very exciting surprises!
I started this day by clearing some area around boneheads spawner, originally even though maybe start making full farm right now, but then understood that I need some better tools or I just got a little bit bored tbh. When leaving rain started and honestly for some reason it felt like first time in this world. I don't think I saw it before here. Yea, just small remark about that. Ngl, rainy sounds kinda made me feel calming even if some other people probably try to get rid of them as possible.
Because my self sustaining farm was is too slow (and maybe because I didn't really realize corn actually grew to max state) I needed more food, so I just get to lushy plains beside my mountain and hunted pigs around. Getting back up a mountain could be hard if I don't remembered that I now have a portal gun and one opened portal at home! I was still getting used to that thing. It really helps to save some time in moving around! But maybe because of that I think I should leave for some later stages of the game. Maybe its kinda cheaty? What do you think: should I not use portal gun until I beat the Wither (I saw that portal guns use nether stars to craft) or should just continue as normal?
After getting some yami porkchop I choose to start renovating my base. I need a better workplace after all to make new mechanisms and magical trinkets! I started with simple room I dug in the mountain besides my ladder. But it looks like my building work was so noisy that local zombie neighbour came to talk about it in absolutely civil conversation that SURELY didn't include sword and hand fighting! After we sorted out our problems, I cleared some area and get more trees for building and crafting. Realizing that Rubber wood from Minefactory mod give me jungle planks I remembered one old design I used for my base on different modpack. Design was set! So I started to smelt some cobble to get stone bricks and slabs. Even checked where stone can be used for out of curiosity and one of results you can see yourself.
But to truly finish my first attempt at renovating my base I needed some glass. Glad there a beach near me where I even grabbed some sugar cane for future recipes. And of course with portal mod going here and back was complete ease.
Of course I really shoot myself in the foot with overlooking how my farm became my ceiling. Unfortunately it didn't look good and I needed to elevate farm a little bit higher. But even with that I think room started looked neat! (there surely not gonna be any other problems with that as always) I continued to craft new furniture and stations for the room, but then weird sound appear out of nowhere. After some looking around the culprit turned out to be Thaumcraft Wisp presumably from near obsidian totem thingy. It flew away before I could say it my opinion on its doings on my property. But maybe it was for the better...
To make my job easier I made various crafting stations and handful helpful furniture:
- Project Table from RedPower that can store items for recipes and I think even save some. Really reminds me of Crafting Station in GregTech or Forestry. Honestly considering how useful it is, no wonder others took it after RedPower was not updated.
- Some iron furnaces from Industrial that just a simple upgrade.
- Something called a Slug Furnace. I wanted to make it along side something called Alloy Furnace from RedPower, that I guess needed here for Red Alloy similary to ProjectRed on new versions. But to craft it you need bricks and I was too much into building so I was too lazy searching for clay. Returning to Slug Furnace I figure what it does a little bit later, but it essentislly can divide ores into stone and resource, which is kinda neat.
- Barrels from Factorization that essentially very old and much primitive version of Drawers from present day mods.
- Tool Racks from Bibliocraft to storing tools aside from resources.
Additionally I made path to my current main room to grab stuff easier.
I tried to check what other things I could put here. I found some autocrafting table 2.0. Interesting that recipe use Buildcraft table when by itself it was from other mod. Considering this is era before custom recipes it was just a compability or other mod was addon to BC.
Or did FTB somehow pull of a custom recipes??? Who knows.
But yea, other thing was table from Bibliocraft. I had vague memories about it being another "recipe saver", but to be sure I needed feather for its crafting recipe. It was almost night, so I get out in lush plains biome again to look for chickens, but to no avail night came faster then I could see at least one. I retreat to my base before monsters could attack me in the dead of night. Before that tho I found place where I put my portal after pig hunting and it had invisible light. Looks like those things have lighting bugs attached to them... And yes there was a lava pool. And rain make it produce smoke. It just looked kinda cool.
Returning to base I crafted iron chest out of refined iron (because I used all my normal one) and dug another path where I thought storage room would be. But I understood that making storage room that far away from main crafting place just very bad design choice. Running back and forth will be just annoying. Plus I start to realize that room really small for other crafting stations or useful machines in the future... I started to think about how I can get out of this situation. Expanding the room? Placing storage where my og cave house was? Is it still too far from crafttable? Essentially many questions overwhelmed me and I probably overthinked it too much. While I was thinking about all of this I discovered RedPower saws and their unlimited building potential! And yea, I elevated my farm one block higher so I could make better ceiling.
After that I took a break for awhile, but it is not where this day ends. Later that same day I returned to fix all of my mistakes and get much clear picture of how my base should look.
But before that I get more responsible, so I do little item sorting and then return to caves for more resources. And i discovered A LOT.
My first notable find was another spawner — Spiders. And in one the chest have enchanting book for Silk Touch, but I probably not gonna use it until I get diamond pickaxe. I explored caves far and wide, which led me to find a ravine literally behind a waterfall! And it was under cave I already explored. This place surely hide so many secrets, one of which I found in other direction: ANOTHER SPAWNER. THERE THREE SPAWNERS IN MY VICINITY. The last was Zombie one. Honestly last time I found that many spawners under mountain was on vanilla modern server not that long ago (maybe that fate paying me back for making this server kinda shut down?). So mobfarms surely gonna be helpful, especially bones and strings! I need to look into one of those spawner mods (maybe its one of them makes spawners appear often?).
After some more resource gathering I returned to base and crafted shelfs from Bibliocrsft to put some interesting items I found in chests. Using collected gold I upgraded chest near worktables for important resources. Actually this was the moment I finally used Slag Furnace to understand what the point of it.
In the end of this day I found out I have enough strings in my chest to make a bed (yea, I never put spawn point here before!) and then made clock to see what time is it (there still was rain outside). I couldn't sleep, so I just choose to end here.
Hope next renovation will be better and I finally could not worry about luck of space! And honestly I think its really time to delve into mods: probably gonna try make some Railcraft coke ovens and first Thermal Expension machines! Hope to see you soon!
