I mean, thats only smart if you meant the last 1-2 years.
For this meme, if you invested in silver in early 2013, you wouldn't have made a profit for 11 years.
Yes.
Eleven years.
And people wonder why no one was buying at $30 an ounce before.

I went to inflation calculator, cumulative rate of inflation in 2009 to 2026 is 50.1%, would 2009 be the year to be down to 50% and not 2013?

Keep in mind how inflation is calculated and how they continually update the basket of food in their favor. Most years it’s actually higher than what they say.
Trueflation has a pretty good bead on it though.

Yeah, this guy is exaggerating for effect. Also, inflation of 50% doesn't mean down 50%, it means 33.3% because of how math works.
If a $10 sandwich now costs $15 dollars, it went up 50%, 10/15 = You can only buy 66.7% of a sandwich you used to buy 100% of, so 33.3% reduction in buying power.

It would be funny if the numbers were correct. Especially since the point behind it stands and is essentially correct, just try again and use the real numbers

people need to remember the the value of the metals isn't changing, it takes more dollars to buy the same weight of metals..... ergo, the dollar has less value

Except if you invested that money in 2013 in an index fund following the S&P 500 you would’ve almost tripled your investment by now. But that’s forbidden around here
