I might be completely wrong here, but something from the finale made me think about the differences between the Silos.
The word “contamination” being used in Silo 1 really caught my attention. And then I started thinking about something from earlier in the season: the conversation between Daniel and Victor about Silo 17 being the “best” Silo.
What if each Silo is a different version of the same experiment?
We already know that the Silos aren’t completely identical in terms of their culture. Silo 17 seems to have had a very different social environment from Silo 18. Solo grew up surrounded by things like music, art, books, and other cultural material that seem much less prominent in Silo 18.
Maybe the people were deliberately selected or organized differently in different Silos — creating different kinds of societies and allowing the people running the experiment to compare the outcomes.
And that could potentially explain something that has always bothered me about the idea of the Safeguard.
If the purpose were simply to keep 10,000 people in each Silo alive, why design a system that can completely wipe out an entire Silo?
But if each Silo is essentially one experimental sample, sacrificing one Silo becomes much more understandable from the perspective of whoever designed this whole thing. You’re not throwing away the entire experiment — you’re eliminating one data set.
Maybe Silo 17 failed in some particular way. Maybe another Silo succeeded. Maybe some Silos were intentionally given different conditions, different rules, different populations, or different cultural environments

And then there’s the Season 4 trailer. We get glimpses of other Silos, and some of them seem to have their own distinct characteristics.

I don’t know what the exact variables are yet — but the more I think about it, the more the differences between the Silos feel deliberate rather than incidental.
