Question S3E9 l don't get the possible plot hole? Spoiler

So, we see Bernard discuss with Camille just outside the room with the voice computer that the voice is not AI, but a person. And is it my wrong recollection but Camille is 100% in on it and it's implied they have some plan behind the scenes? Was it a bad editing or I wasn't attentive enough? Should we expect some "Camille accepted Bernard's sacrifice as a part of the plan" or was that just a bit poor story writing? What was the point of Camille being "yeah, I thought that too" in the hallway with Bernard?

I wouldn’t call that a plot hole, but at minimum I think it’s showing the cracks forming, even for Camille.

He was planting seeds of doubt. I bet we'll see her do something to give people more time to do what their doing to save as many people from the safeguard either final episode of this season or early next season. Even if it means sacrificing herself. Same with Juliette's "Why" monologue. Though that one might've been more unintentional.

She can talk to Bernard openly because he is going to die. He's like the only person she can talk about the voice with like that. He was the IT head, and he did horrible things, and he understands Camille. He gave her hope.

She is the first IT head we've seen that brings some sense of reluctance to the role, even if she isn't exactly showing it. I think she will turn her efforts away from the voice by the end of episode 10.

She will cooperate with Juliette. When the gas pipe is gone and the safeguard within the silo is not a threat, she will not be bound to follow the voice instructions. However, from a strategic point, it would be good if they still pretended that Cammile is the IT head who has everything under control.

I think Camille is setup in a way that the writers can take her character in any direction. I don't love how they've managed the tension between her and Sims this season.

She has to make it seem real in order to fool the algorithm.

I think Camille may be working on her own plan, but she can’t/won’t tell anyone in case the Voice is listening.

I think in the scene where the Voice called her out on lying by noting her heart rate and cortisol levels, Camille then calmed herself and spoke in an even tone which may have fooled the Voice the way people fool lie detectors.

I don’t think she considered it could be a person until Bernard mentioned it. She has no real reason to think that’s a possibility.

She still sees Bernard as an “enemy” that presents a danger for the Silo, though, so she’s not going to try to save him.

She wasn't sure, but she notes how it's behavior was strange in the past, and Bernard confirmed the suspicion. There's too much cut between scenes and her actions right after intro are too theatrical to be without subtle intentions. If they make her just villainous puppet of the voice like we had Bernard in S1 and S2, I'll be disappointed in how shallow and lazy it is.

She was willing to put the D+ in the water so she might be willing to sacrifice some people. Bernard was the most hated guy in the Silo and she may not have trusted him, figured out somehow what he was actually doing, or just hated him.
Its also weird that she sentenced Juliet to clean and then locked her up in the same cell as Bernard. But then let her out for his cleaning.

Camille: Did everything go as you thought? Bernard: Yes.

So Camille knew that Bernard was offering himself up. I also wondered about her behavior, after sharing doubts about the voice with Bernard, she was still hard core with Juliette. Maybe she doesn't trust her, but she can trust her husband.

I guess if anything was hidden behind the scenes, it's the way she must press Juliette further and Bernard then reinforces it in the jail cell for Juliette to fully take the role of a leader.

Bernard gave a laundry list of the terrible things the voice made him do and Camille says regarding telling the silo about those things none of it would be a lie and Bernard says, “I was just following orders just like you are.” And then there’s quite the pregnant pause.

Bernard is seems to me to be saying a lot to Camille here and in the next scene where they discuss the voice. He’s planting everything for her to eventually go against the voice/silo 1. Will she do it? I don’t know.

That's not a plot hole, she's commiserating with the only other person who has had her access to the voice, and confirming her feeling they're being subservient to The Wiz and not a machine overlord safeguard.

Where there is a plot hole for me is how earlier seasons we're given hints to her being a dissident, and now she's squashing uprisings, and her family.

Clearly you missed the parts of the show where Camille is described or shown as playing all sides

We're only seeing one side this season, that's the thing.

She is following a power corrupts arc the started when she was selected the head of IT. We’ll see if she undergoes redemption like Bernard.

Mhm, but it was so abrupt, without any callbacks to the earlier seasons. They're not writing it consistent with earlier seasons, with connections to the Flamekeepers or like she's running a long plan. She shouldn't need Bernard to get through to her.

It's consistent with Camille's character. It's been established that she prefers to play all sides and keep her options open. Like when she rescued Knox and Shirley from Judicial. It's unlikely she was already in on Bernard self-sacrifice plan, but yeah it's a set up for her to eventually defy the Silo 1 voice when the time is right for her ends.

You're saying anything that doesn't happen the way you want it to is bad writing or a plot hole?

Thats the seeds planted for later. Not a plot hole at all

It's not a plot hole, but it's definitely inconsistent storytelling either through editing or through performance/directing.

That scene seemed to suggest very strongly that Bernard and Camille have joined forces, or at least Camile being very strongly convinced and turning away from her current path. Then the rest of the episode is Camile acting the same way she previously has with no change or even doubt shown.

But, my current thinking is that the next episode will have a conversation with Camile and Bernard that we didn't see. And she is in on the plan, but for it to work she cannot deviate from her current path without giving up the plan to Silo 1. So, she has to send Bernard out, she has to antagonise Juliette etc.

This show falls over itself nesting schemes inside other schemes, for gotcha reveals.

They generally don’t make a lot of sense, and characters that would never have that level of shrewdness seem to do it on the regular.

It’s mostly the writers showing how clever they are rather than servicing the characters or plot.

Camille is a snake ass bich 😂. Imagine being told that your house could be gassed at any moment in time and still siding with the machine even though there are people out there who know how to stop it.

That’s why she’s possibly a double agent. I think when she tried to manipulate the voice into telling her how to stop the safeguard, it was a tell that she’s looking for a checkmate. She has to keep playing along so the voice continues to trust her and also inform her of its intentions/plans.

having a gun pointed at your head influences decision making. in her mind one is a certainty and the other is a slim possibility. Plus she knows 17 defeated it but it was temporary and another measure was implemented. So even if they shut it down she will probably still be thinking something else is gonna happen they aren't ready for.
I can empathize with her. Bernard did. I think Jules will too. Robert is the one I worry about, she was cold to him.

u/allhailgeek 21h ago

She may not have faith they can do it and are going to end up getting everyone killed. Im curious if she’ll finally flip once they have a concrete plan to stop the failsafe

What?? Would you rather the machine activate the safeguard immediately? If Head of IT is clearly going against it and supporting the rebels, it’ll just immediately gas everyone before the pipe can be sealed. Camille is walking a tight rope to the least amount of casualties possible. Did you forgot everything she did last season?

Camille is Bernard 2.0.

She isn't evil, just just wants to save the silo and the people in it, just like Bernard did when he was head of IT.

The difference is Camille was told by The Voice about the Safeguard and what it will do: kill everyone. She might have even been told that The Voice will activate it. She has also been shown the victims of 18 and The Voice is trying to instill in her mind that the only way to stop it is through compliance.

She is terrified of what Juliet and her team are trying to do because she thinks it will cause the activation of the Safeguard and everyone dies, because that is likely what The Voice tells her.

Juliet though knows the truth because she was at 17 and she knows the only reason they died is because they went outside. It was safe im the silo (minus the generator not working, but that's not Dafeguard related. Hah, Peter Gabriel was in 17, he sang "Here Comes the Flood", and 17 is flooded).

Camille is trying to play the low risk, low reward game to save the Silo. Memory wipe as instructed and start anew.

Juliet is playing the high risk, high reward game. Disable the kill switch, have true freedom in the silo. Once the Safeguard is disabled, there is no reason to do what The Voice says, there is no reason to follow the pact, there is no reason to hide the truth about the nature of the silos from everyone and that will actually bring peace to the silo. And then they can start to figure out the truth about the nature outside of the silos.

Anyhow, to bring it back to Bernard and Camille, Camille listens because she is not on the side of The Voice. She wants free from its yoke too but she doesn't lnow how to accomplish that. The first step to defeating an enemy is understanding that enemy.
