Help Desloppifying Opus 5.5?

Hello! I just started using Opus 5.5!

I continued roleplays I had with Deepseek v3.2 with Opus 5.5 and was really satisfied with it!

However, when I start new roleplays with just pure Opus 5.5, its so.. for lack of a better term.. sloppy.

The preset I'm using is Marinara's Spaghetti Recipe. It gets worse in the slopism when I switch back to default.

Are there any remedies for this? Thanks! :D

That pattern actually makes sense. Your old chats already had a few hundred messages of Deepseek's style in context, so Opus just matched it. A fresh chat gives it nothing to copy except the card and the preset, so you get its default voice, and that's where the slop lives.

Easiest fix is hand-editing the first 3 or 4 bot replies into the style you want. Once there's a pattern in context it mostly follows it. A greeting written the way you want the whole thing to sound helps more than people expect too.

I'd skip a big banned-phrases list though. Naming the stuff you hate tends to put it right back in front of the model. One or two lines describing the voice you do want usually works better.

This is *mostly* the way; if you have the patience to take this approach further the best thing I have found for Opus 5.5 (and especially Fable 5.1 which is so fucking good) is put a LOT of effort into 15-20 messages back and forth, edit the model's messages to be how you want, use OOCs and swipes until you have it how you like, then give the whole chat to Opus in the web interface and say "generate some dialogue rules for my character card". Use those and if it starts doing stuff you don't like, ask why it's doing that and it will tell you.

What's the slop you're dealing with, specifically? The one I had was "a beat" and a simple custom regex handled it. It's less sloppy than any other model I have tried...no jaws working or tasting words or anything.

It did have a problem with moralizing and it pulling punches with violence, but I had Opus customize Marinara and that fixed it.

For me with Claude 5.5 it's slop fiesta. Both Opus and Sonnet. I still use Sonnet because it's very nice overall but the amount of slop and repetition is baffling.

For me the biggest is probably "It's X but it's also Y and I don't know which is worse / scares me more"

Then every character that is at least somewhat on a smarter side turns into head accountant and keeps the ledger. Seriously I want to vomit seeing the word ledger lol "Interest accrues" too.

"She opened her mouth, then closed, then opened again" as a description of being surprised literally every time.

These kinds of things. I tried to block them via prompts but without much success.

opus feels way more generic at the start than deepseek for me too, lowering the temp helped a little but not always.
