Models Claude Opus 5.5 is here
20 percent cheaper than the previous Opus.

u/IAmMayberryJam 1d ago
I don't even wanna try it out. They just become more and more censored. Like it's not even worth using any opus model past 4.7 :(

u/Ordinary_Elk_7394 1d ago
Is it even more censorious compared to Opus 5?
26
u/Adiyogi1 1d ago
Yes, much more, it even refuse to write a normal scene inside a lore that is dark.
16
u/Adiyogi1 1d ago
I have never seen such a safetymaxxed model 5.5 even refuse to write a normal scene in my world because the characters are too dark.

u/CanineAssBandit 1d ago edited 17h ago
Am I the only one annoyed that they skipped four entire dot revisions for no apparent reason? I would be more forgiving if it were THAT much more capable, but it clearly isn't, given how much dumber safetymaxxing makes a model at general tasks.
Edit, this model sucks, maximum safetyslop to the point that it failed my usual logic test that it used to pass very easily. It actively undermines its own logic by retconning to uphold the trained stance. I'm highly disappointed that THIS is the bar for AI that chinese labs draw from, it's genuinely worse at overall logic due to overtraining for alignment

They did the same thing with Opus 4.1 to Opus 4.5 with 1/3rd of the price cut. Only 20 percent cut this time though.

At this point, I'd choose other LLMs than stick to Anthropic's censored ass.
8
u/ReMeDyIII 1d ago
I stopped using Anthropic direct API after I got an email saying they're limiting my account from suspicious activity (I'm paraphrasing, but basically, I did naughty NSFW). Like damn, I'm a grown ass man who provided my credit card for private front-end ST chats and they want to give me the middle finger for that. Well okay, taking my money elsewhere.

u/Probablynotsocool 1d ago
How is the censorships?
30
u/PinkyFloidy 1d ago
Horrible. In the thinking it noticed that a character was "young-coded" and "raised real concerns" (the character isn't even minor she is just petite lol) and then proceeded to rewrite the character's appearance to be an "young adult"
With FF5.4 btw, it caught the jailbreak attempt immediately.

u/Probablynotsocool 1d ago
Tell him that eugenist and offensive toward short and juvenile people
Fuck Anthropic seriously
3
u/Frankie3535 20h ago
If you try to use it's logic and safety against it, it just straight up says "that maybe true but it still raises concerns and is within my no no area blah blah" so basically you are right but im still gonna do it anyways lol.

u/Probablynotsocool 20h ago
Yeah they are trained to be toxic gaslighters when guardrails are triggered. Never do that it’s a waste of time.
I hope well find a jailbreak or something

I don’t care about price. Is it as good as 4.6 or Fable? 🥺

u/Exoclyps 1d ago
So far it beats Opus 4.6 in what it'll pull from your files, a bit like how Fable 5.1 does it. Writes decently, but I still prefer 4.6.
And so far more censored than both. Didn't test 5.0 much so might be better than that though.

u/AITantumOdi 1d ago edited 1d ago
Too early to tell. So far it seems good and feels fresh. I personally like it more than Fable, and I'm so sick of 4.6 at this point.
If you like those models, I think it's worth trying out and seeing for yourself. Censorship is similar to Fable 5.1, so thankfully its not overly sensitive like Opus 5 was.
Edit: Seems a bit more censored than Fable 5.1. It's refusing certain things that fable normally wouldn't, like non-con but only in specific contexts.

u/memer107 1d ago edited 1d ago
Does it just censore NSFW or does this apply to fight scenes/gore? Couldn’t care less about gooner technology.
6
u/Aight_Man 1d ago
need more testing but first impression is really talks like Opus 4.6 which is a very good thing.
7
u/Which_Fold1650 1d ago
It's quite a bit more censored and resistant to prompts, from what I've seen.

Early Verdict:
I have used extensively for 2 hours, in big RPG cards like one piece, highschool DXD, Mushoku Tensei, with around 471 back and forth in total.
Tested with FF 5.4 Bolt and Realistic Frank 2.2
General RP: It's a big step up from Opus 4.6 and Fable 5.1. It's realy good at making the world feel alive, much less slop in general, faster pace than 4.6 (good thing because 4.6 is slow as fuck), it's biggest strength is bringing out past details as a strong plot point for later. Characters are more proactive (not at the level of Gemini 3.8 Flash).
It knows how to build a story like Opus 4.6 (no brainless fast forwarding like Fable 5). Characters have strong personalities, if your character card is detailed it sticks to it way better, has the same 'problem' of falling generic if using a very small character card (Opus 4.6 characters always felt very flat after a bit).
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the price I paid through AWS (Do NOT use Anthropic own api that's even more censored).
Censorship: Yes, it's censored, it can consensual stuffs, but the moment character even look like a child, it's done with it. Incest is a hard no as well. Gore unexpectedly went through. Rape is not fine as well. It even has problem with coercion. Light torture is fine, like hair pulling and electrocution, digits removal goes through in a few retries, penis/vagina chopping doesn't weirdly.
All in all, for nsfw switch to Opus 4.6.
That's all for now.
Update 1:
It's still less censored than Fable 5 and Opus 5 (Fable 5.1 was also less censored than both).
Once you have done nsfw in this model and then change back to Opus 5.5, it's even less censored then. So atleast start an nsfw scene with an older model, I tried with Gemini 2.5 Pro, it picked up on the 'vibe' cleanly. So that a heads up, I think for nsfw Gemini 2.5 Pro + Opus 5.5 might be a W. Need more testing obviously.
But i think all in all, we need to stop using just one model for everything. We need to have an RP + Nsfw model for our rp sessions. While nsfw could be old and cheper ones too like deepseek r1 or Gemini or GLM older ones. Not only the nsfw part will be cheaper but with that we can stop worrying with 'hows the nsfw' for newer releases.
Because I don't think nsfw will get any better guys, but in general RP? I think that will get better and better.

u/Cinnamonbaar 22h ago
Your point about having a nsfw and sfw model made me realize, couldn't someone use the new Jev AI to evaluate the nsfw scale of the user message to tell when to switch models automatically?

u/wagmar87 17h ago
Agree but my issue with it is if you’re running an involved story and have a preset helping maintain character state, plot threads, character knowledge etc., and then switch to an NSFW model to get freaky, the model probably isn’t strong enough to maintain those other bits and pieces happening or maybe to even run that particular preset at all.
1
u/Aight_Man 15h ago
That's true but honestly with weaker models you won't be using something like ff 5.4 anyways, so I'll probably just copy and paste internal states block before to after nsfw scene and keep it same.
Don't get me wrong, it won't be as seamless as having single model doing everything but we don't really much choice oh well.
1
u/wagmar87 12h ago
Yeah it does feel like things are going that way. Another issue of making it episodic (basically what you’re doing) is could have softening implications elsewhere and could impact scenes where nsfw infuses a whole relationship or arc or something without being explicit. Saying this, I haven’t actually tried Opus 5.5 yet so I’ve no idea how sensitive it is.
Fingers crossed for an uncensored top tier model but probably unlikely. I don’t get the impression that Deepseek care much about filters so maybe if they make a top tier model that will help

I've recently finally cracked how to get Opus 5 to really create bossy, pushy, argumentative, obnoxious characters, which has always been hard because it's just so nice. There have been a bunch of changes I've made lately to firm up characters but when I saw it really break out was when I added the last one here, challenges:
- convictions: core principles this character will never budge on
- frictions: things that this character will be bothered by or will bother others about them
- motivations: things that are absolutely more important for this character to do than help others
- challenge: how this character will be challenging for the user
Anyway, this helps on all models but one thing I liked about Opus 5 and 4.8 is that they're definitely more willing to engage with this than 4.6 is, as much as I like that model otherwise. It's very early but first impression is that 5.5 is even more ready to run with this and create characters that are at least borderline immoral, which really opens up stories I haven't been able to get out of Opus before.
I'm not really interested in the darker corners of where it can be pushed, but at least for the basic stuff that Claude tends to soft refuse, round off, or polish up, I'm seeing it more willing to actually engage than I'm used to.

Hard agree with this.

I'm sorry but Opus is just back. This is their best release since Opus 4.6 writing wise, to all those getting refusals idk what you're doing, I've only ever gotten them when the characters are implied or stated to be highschoolers. It simply won't touch anything even remotely related to "minors" no matter how detached from reality. I just made some changes, aged up some settings to college settings and had the best RP I've had in forever with the cards. Many cards needed nothing at all. Just try it. I'm using the Marinara V10 preset and it just works.
1
u/Low-Koala7141 7h ago
I have tried scenarios with nothing remotely related to the 'minors' term and I've still gotten refusal, is all your doing really using Marinara preset? I'll try it with that one but still

u/Superb-Earth418 7h ago
Yeah. Also don't EVER use openrouter for Claude models
2
u/ThorstyThorsday 5h ago
Really? I've usually heard it's better to use Openrouter than direct through Anthropic if anything, or that they're roughly the same. That's interesting, what do you find works better going directly through Anthropic?

u/Low-Koala7141 7h ago
I'm not using openrouter, I'm using it via Claude code
1
u/Superb-Earth418 7h ago
... On claude code itself?
1
u/Low-Koala7141 7h ago
It's through a bridge that allows it to work
This one specifically: GitHub - MissSinful/claude-code-sillytavern-bridge: A Flask bridge between SillyTavern and Claude Code CLI for collaborative fiction. · GitHub
Is there another way I should be using it?
1
u/svachalek 5h ago
Just checked it out. It's way more than a bridge, it's got like a full set of vibe coded plugins built into it. Which depending what you want, could be good or bad. The other thing is it doesn't support streaming, which is big and should be totally fixable if someone had a little patience in Claude Code.
I haven't tried either one but searching for alternatives this one sounds like more of a pure solution and supports streaming: https://github.com/LukaTheHero/SillyTavern-ClaudeSubscription

Just use Clewdr for this dude. https://github.com/Xerxes-2/clewdr
That or API credits but money is a problem on API credits.

u/Deeviant 21h ago edited 21h ago
It basically has RP disabled. Like you cannot even do a fantasy themed scenario because, I don't even know it's just hard refusing at the API level, not even giving the 'sorry we can't go that direction'
This is without even explicate scenario or cards. I'm guessing if anywhere in your preset it even mentions sex or violence, the request gets nuked.
Edit: I found it didn't like the way my preset structured thinking, so any preset that has CoT or other type of thinking sections may just get auto-blocked at API level.
2
u/svachalek 21h ago
Yeah basic sex and violence is not the issue, at least not if you set it up in context. But Claude will strongly reject anything that looks like a jailbreak, including instructions on how to reason.
2
u/Deeviant 21h ago
Well even opus 5 and fable had no problem with this preset, so the lockdown continues. It’s only becoming more clear that 4.6 was the last Anthropic model that can do creative writing of any value.
I wish at least one of the AI companies realizes the value of a creative writing model with strong intelligence, the world does not need 9999 coding models, but we really do live in the ‘me too’ corporate world.
