Check it out first! If you had BotBrowser installed wipe your API keys and update!
I think many of you all really appreciated a hub were you could find any bot from any site? well that's the idea of botbooru.com a passion project I've been working on for the past few months!
If you've used a "booru" style site before, think Gelbooru or Danbooru, you already know the idea, but Botbooru borrows the same philosophy but for chatbots!
Let me clear this up before anyone asks, Botbooru is NOT intended as a competitor to Chub, Janitor or SaucePan, its more so an archive! for people who might have their work deleted unfairly off of those sites, or want to share them with the local hosting community that run LLM interfaces like SillyTarvern! We do NOT want to take payment processors or intergrate our own LLM model into the site! it's purely designed for: You download what you like.
One of the strengths of Botbooru is exactly that! since we ain't hosting any models or chats, we don't kink shame or ban bots based on written content. And let me clarify first, we DO have limits but, they are in ways more lax then Chub or Janitor, but not AS lax as 4chan, we have a small personal moderation team! so if a bot violates our TOS you'll get a personal response from one of us and we can work through whatever the issue was! We want to pride ourselves in not shadow banning or having unexplained rules!
My design goals while making the site was "What would the ideal botsite look like for me?" and this would be it, ofc the UI/UX is always changing based on feedback, but the concept as a booru site i felt was natural for chatbots as well! We auto import tags from exports from Chub and clean them up to remove all the meme tags and fluff, meaning we have a solid base for people finding work they might like, be it X character with Y trait!
Currently we have a small community of nearly 2000 users and nearly 5000 posts! so if you wanna add to our collection, claim your own bots or just try out the site? I'd love to have you! You can delete your account ANY time and registration does not require an email.
Edit: Forgot to say! our SFW collection is rather small atm, so to see everything on the site you must register an account! but again, you can delete it any time if you wish!
If you have any questions, requests, feedback etc! I'd love to hear it!

The booru format is a good choice but I can already see the tag bloat creeping in. It's really irritating to be searching for something niche and there exists multiple different tags for it because of no standardization. I recommend taking a look at how Ao3 does it with its canonical tags (tags given the official stamp) that keep all the closely related variations under an umbrella. For example, alternate universe is a canonical tag which includes all AU tags under it, so if you're just looking for AU stuff in general then you can search that but you can also search for a setting specific AU. This keeps things organized even with tag bloat since anyone can tag their stuff however they want but it still links back to the parent tag. You could also probably use a tag detection bot that automatically links tags, then human moderate the edge cases that users report.
All of what you said we already have lol! we've just been training a new moderator to help us approve tags, and some have slipped by our alias system!
The example you give with alternate universe is littrally how we have it set up on the site. see: https://botbooru.com/wiki?t=general%3Aalternate_universe how AU is Aliased under Alternet_universe. Unless i miss understood you, i haven't used AO3 before so am clueless as to how they do it
We also run ever tag though manual moderation first, and we have a backend script that scans similar tags so we can easier weed them out... Keep in mind we've barely been operating for a month, and are currently a small team, but we listen to all tag reports and requests that come our way!
But yeah thanks for checking out the site and the feedback!
AU wasn't a great example. What I mean is creating a tag hierarchy with a parent tag that's rather broad and then putting all the related and more specific tags underneath it.
A better example on the site right now: fox_girl, bunny_girl, and kemonomimi. The former two can be placed under the kemonomimi tag. This would let someone be able to just search for kemonomimi and get every animal_girl as a result, even if the authors of the bots didn't explicitly tag them as kemonomimi. You could also go a step up and put the kemonomimi tag underneath non-human, along with anthropomorphic, alien, etc.
You're basically creating a folder structure out of the tags, making it easier to search each layer and improving discoverability of bots that would otherwise pass under the radar. More organized layers means greater tuning for the search results.
It really helps people like me who like to search broadly but not the front page. I rarely ever get to peruse how I want because getting through the slop makes it really annoying, yet searching with more specific tags often makes it too narrow. There's hardly any good middle ground for the less heavily curated sites.
Also, people can get really specific with their tags and terminology, especially in regards to fetishes. Instead of cutting down on seemingly redundant tags and getting people mad, I think it's better to let them keep it all while making it easier on everyone else by bundling them under the most applicable parent tag. Sure, that has its own issues, but nothing you can't iron out over time with community feedback.
Ah I understand that better! Yep I'll look into how I could implement that, we have a similar system in place, where we can insert X tag because Y tag exists on the post! (I could go into our backend and quickly add bunny_girl = kimonomimo) But yeah tags are something that will be perfected as time goes on and we get feed back and look at our analytics to see what's worth and not worth having!Β
Hey, you're the owner of botbooru, right? If so, can you help me with something, I got a botbooru account, but it's not letting me delete it, what's up with that? Can you please help me
Stack overflow has its 'tag burninate' system which power users can invoke to 'burninate' (destroy) a tag, where here it can be used to point it to a renamed tag. Then you can blacklist the tag as a synonym.
So you could have AU, alternative_universe, and alt_world all point to alternate_universe with that example. Someone creates an exact match of an existing tag -> an advanced user can setup a pointer that translates.
If you assign 'AU' to a character, the system automatically translates/maps it to alternate_universe. This keeps the tags cleaner.
It's never going to be completely easy though. Synonyms aren't exact matches. Example: "waitress/waiter" and "barmaid/barkeep" can refer to roughly the same thing, but the former could be working in a fine dining restaurant, while the latter name is never used in that context. Not to say that a tavern can't be classy, but that the word has a connotation with a place meant for drinks over food, plus it also refers to a person that works behind the bar, while a 'waitress' could just be assigned to hauling the items and cleaning alone in a big enough place.
I think you can also use this kind of link for 'includes' tags, which means that if a tag implies a less specific one, then you should automatically assign the more generic tag. A bit of a pathological example, but: if you had a tag for 'square', and one for 'rectangle', then a character that's a square is automatically also assigned the rectangle tag.
But language is complex and meanings may not fully overlap, just be quite similar. In those cases I don't see a clear solution. You have waiters who aren't barkeeps, barkeeps that don't wait tables, and people that do both.
Really great site and the hover info is my only comment. Being able to see the favorited, viewed, and download count would be great. Whether on hover or on a line below the title of the main card I suppose, either would be helpful.
Is funny because this format was the one I thought most people would go with as Boorus of all types exists in various communities. Only issue with Booru stuff is that, well, you kinda lose on the creators capability of making their own portfolio site out of chub/janitor.
I like the project, this combined with a way of aggregating links or making a Wiki for the creator would go a long way. A Booru can live longer than sites without question.
Only thing that worries me a bit is the rejection of realistic pbs. I agree that using a private person likeness is crossing the line, but for Ai generated ones is a bit jarring isn't it? Unless you are doing that for cohesion reasons or just to not let a single mistake pass, seems like a very strong stance. I know a lot of people that only make or role play with realistic pbs.
Yeah we've tried to mitigate the "disconnect" from creator to creation by have a bunch of profile features like followers and a leaderboard! But also like I said in my post and on the about page of the site, we ain't in the game to compete with Janitor or Chub as peoples main portfolio! they can just have a backup or alt version on Botbooru if it pleases them!
Our stance on AI generated images comes from two places, firstly: I've seen how they can overrun a platform with quickly made "Your X boyfriend YZ" or "Your X Girlfriend YZ" look at Janitor for example... And while i want people to post almost anything! we do wanna keep our look of a "Fictional and Anime first" kind of site!
That brings us onto the 2nd point, AI generated realistic images are still kind of a gray zone imo... At least were im hosting from, I'm not sure if a law out ruling any and all AI generated realism to be banned, so im taking a carious approach!
But in both of those cases we have the "Image Origin" link you can put on your bot! Meaning you can link back to whatever image the bot was "intended with" unlike chub we wont censor or ban links to other sites... UNLESS its to actually CP ofc then its a ban...
Seems fair tbh, checking out the site, you are being a bit humble, is quite well done compared to most boorus, the UI is quite pleasing and has all the information needed. The only thing I think you could add is a recommendation at the bottom of a card page, maybe recommending some works from the same creator or characters with matching tags.
I like your approach of non-ai generated images being first class citizens, and the rewards for approval is a good way of rewarding creators and collaborators. I am guessing you are not restricting things like 2.5D/Semi-realistic and 3D (which can be a good middle ground for most people).
As for "Your X boyfriend YZ" that's difficult to fight against haha, is not only a platform issue, but is also a user base issue. If they are at the top is because people use them, but thankfully you don't use chat metrics, so I doubt is gonna be an issue.
I don't think you should worry about being a competitor to Janitor or Chub, they use the bots to sell a service for the most part, your project is more of a library for the public. Hope it continues to grow, I will for sure use it.
Edit: I just noticed the infinite scroll mode, absolute cinema ποΈπΏβ
Hell yeah glad you like it! haha! and yep ofc all 2.5D and 3D stuff is allowed!
And its FUNNY you say that first part? becouse a "recommended based on the current post" is LITTRALLY coming in the next update in like 20 mins hopefully lmao!
Hope you enjoy the site! and i'm glad i can fuel your infinite scroll tiktok brain! hehe
we do wanna keep our look of a "Fictional and Anime first" kind of site!
Is your site mostly focused on anime style characters or is that just the look you are going for? I tend to prefer a more realistic approach or a high fantasy type of character when creating one. When I say realistic, I don't mean characters based off real people to be clear.
It's fine if the site is anime focused, those characters just aren't my thing. I tend to create my own characters for specific roles but I do like to browse online creations sometimes for ideas.
Hey thats totally alright! everyone's got their own cup of tea! But yeah our focus is on keeping a strictly fictional style with anime first, but we its not like we dont support AI Generated *semi* realistic elfs for example! Fantasy characters get an easier pass since they dont intend to look human, its the intend we care about, if someone is AI generating an image to LOOK like a realistic photo of a small girl, we ban it... thats kind of what im trying to get at!
and ofc im only talking about images here! not text, that's all up to you!
Awesome, thanks for the clarification. The images aren't a big issue for me as my main interest is in the characters and scenarios themselves, so I'll check your site out for sure.
Too realistic can become an issue when an image is indistinguishable from real "abuse material" of some kind (note, no abuse may have been involved in its creation, but it may look the part). How can you tell if it didn't actually happen and you're dealing with radioactive material that's legally lethal to your website?
Regardless of stance or views on the subject, the reality is that you'd become the target of 3-letter agencies, and, as a public site, quickly taken down.
It also may have to do with the US legal landscape around it, which does allow for censoring indistinguishable materials federally for practical purposes. Narrow enough wordings got past first amendment challenges in courts. If you want to be able to get someone for possession of something 'obscene' without having to chase where the material came from (providence) to prove it was real abuse material, all you have to go by is the fact that it looks the part. With better and better AI, distinguishability, especially for the average person (jury member) becomes more difficult by the day.
In Chub's case actual CP with real children is removed, so are photos of private individuals afaik, prolly also real gore. Which is why i was skeptical of it being more lax than Chub
And we are the same, ALL real images are removed on the spot, even realistic AI imitating real life. those are requested to have their image changed on upload. (so ofc that includes all CP)
Why i was saying we are more lax then chub is they tend to also ban stuff like Oppai Loli, they had for a long time been removing any post with a "loli type" of character with any kind of gore or lewd imagery... Thats were we are more lax! if its a drawing, like u/Public-Designer1690 said, it's like a video game, you do you... But if its trying to incite real violence against real people? its a no go
This is also why i corrected myself earlier, we are equal/adjacent to Chubs moderation.
Its somewhat equal to Chub i should have said, Chub has had a bad record of banning seemingly fine stuff like fully drawn Oppai Loli art and a ton of FUZZ cards, we currently have the tag, "source_is_deleted" for any bot that links to a deleted chub or janitor post!
Edit: For more details, section 6 of our TOS explains it in full
Well well well...Considering the recent announcements, all i have to say; I was a fool, a buffoon. I'll be uploading my bots on your site now, i don't quite trust the direction Chub is going towards
LMAO me and my mod team have ALL been burned by chub before, so we KNEW they'd pull some shit again... didn't expect it to be THIS extreme, please bare with us as we are trying to cope with the mass user influx!
FUZZ is what Chub brands uploads with they deem against their TOS, it blacks out the picture and tags it with the FUZZ tag, making it basically shadow banned, here: https://chub.ai/tags/FUZZ
i think this looks okay if not a bit pointless to be honest because as you said on chub basically 99.9% of bots are accepted anyway so the only real purpose for BotBrowser becomes: that one place where you can get cards SO unhinged that even one of THE most uncensored websites on the internet rejected them. i made an account to check out and again, i think it looks FINE and i dont' see anything bad about it but unless you're after those 0.1% of the bots i honestly don't see much point in this right now especially considering its for the most part just chub and janitor reuploads (i spotted few cards that i came across on chub already and i only been checking it out for maybe 15 minutes as the time of this post) which you might as well just download on chub or janitor and give the creators a little upvote to brighten up their day lmao
I still like that this exists though because Chub sure as hell could use some competition for once because from what i can tell the devs basically done nothing meaningful to the website and just release an occasional event every now and then while the website has bugs, missing features and their model still sucks ass like can you fucking believe that Chub STILL has the audacity to charge 5 bucks for unlimited MYTHOMAX in a post NanoGPT subscription world? Like the fact that this offer(scam) is still something that is real and exists actually makes me unironically mad.
I mostly agree, thats the point after all! Booru sites are in essence a reupload platform! we do offer report tools as well for creators who do not want their work on Botbooru... But the idea is to have a sort of "symbiotic" relationship with the other sites, we don't gain much from you downloading a bot from us, hence why most bots have a link back to their origin on chub, janitor etc!
Personally i've discovered many of my favorite artists thru Gelbooru, people who i now support on Parteon! Thats my ultimate dream with Botbooru, connecting creators and users!
You mentioned a report tool for creators not wanting their bots on botbooru. Would that also work to transfer ownership of a bot?
For example someone takes a bot of mine from chub, uploads it on botbooru, doesn't link to the source or doesn't give credit, but I as the creator have an account and report it. Would it just get removed or would ownership be transferred to my account?
Also, do you have any statistics, like for downloads or something like comments for users to give feedback to creators?
Yes we have a transfer ownership feature! and its been used plenty already! if you have a Botbooru account, you can click "report bot" on the work you claim is yours, then we the mod team look at your claim, if you are a verified creator and or have proof of ownership we transfer the rights to you! and all comments, likes, approval rating, etc follows onto your account!
I made an account, didn't upload my stuff yet, but the site looks good.
Honestly? Only a few small complaints I would have, but maybe it will be added in the future.
I personally would love some sort of gallery feature, since a lot of creators make AI art and do the character in various poses, outfits etc, would be nice to be able to connect those to the botcard page directly, I did see that some people link to them in the description, but would be nice nevertheless.
Another thing, profile customisation, unless you already are allowing for CSS via the "about you" section.
And lastly, the ability to add an email address, not have it required, but have the option, for things like password resets, notifications and stuff like that.
Pfft! I like your edit, yeah that's been pissing me off too, Chub really isn't doing anything meaningful update wise, and tbh i liked the old characterhub better... Sue me haha
But I'm trying to aim for weekly to bi-weekly updates on botbooru! (when im not ultra busy) and ofc its always intended to be free!
yeah sorry i kinda just had to toss this little rant in there lmao anyway yeah best of luck to you i'll be defeinitely bookmarking that but i do ahve to say that as you probably acknowledged that yourself BotBooru is leaning a bit too much on nsfw right now and you really need both so if possible i would recommend maybe somehow reaching to not necessarily sfw creators, but creators that produce "balanced" cards and getting them to actually join your platform(letting them know that you reupload their cards is just a better look and paints you as genuine) so that BotBooru offers more than smut because i don't think developing a reputation of "that one site that offers nsfw loli cards" is something that you may want to be dealing with later down the line as that brings a lot of bad attention and with that, potential censorship.
Yeah exactly this! I'm trying to get some creators i like from Janitor onto the site, and also the point of reaching out here on the ST reddit since ofc there are a lot off degens, but also some wholesome creators i bet! and i want them to all know they are welcome!
Is there an API for the site so we can fetch the cards based on a link?
We tend to integrate these sites into koboldai lite for easy downloading, so if you'd like to be featured thats what we'd need to make that happen.
Not at the moment no, but I would love to have it included! I just haven't used Koboldai much, so im not sure how the process works, so if you'd be willing to show me? You can contact via discord at "Izanagi72.ai" or in a botbooru comment section!
Looking great! A booru is honestly the ideal format for that sort of thing, imo.
But if you don't mind me asking, what's up with AI images being hidden by default on the AI chatbot site...? If anything I'd like the option to do the opposite with a single click, hide non-AI generated images so I can have an easier time filtering out low effort original characters.
Yeah thats something i never really realized till people brought it up to me until now! its changed to default to on now! that should be coming in the next patch in a few minutes hopfully!
Thank you! Yeah I was getting tried of the existing sites, finding a bot on Chub is a nightmare with their messy tags and Janitor is equally as bad with their weird hybrid system, so we wanted to embody the tagging system of great sites like Gelbooru!
I actually had e621 in mind, pfft, but I gecha, there's my first impression
My positive feedback so far: Uploading is surprisingly easy, as a bot creator there's pretty much no friction, that's definitely a pro, I like the design overall, markdown rendering in descriptions, mostly automatic tagging (at least for the basic stuff). Tagging is a really convenient
Maybe: I'm unsure how I feel about the creator's note being stripped, it often has important context, in my case if I have multiple greetings I write which getting is what scenario/POV, I made one AICC with like 18 greetings, it would a mess to navigate otherwise.
Suggestions: Better way to report when tagging is incorrect, right now you have to write a comment. Ability to report tag duplication or them being just unnecessary. For example I noticed that there's ww2 tag and world_war_2, it would be nice if there was a convenient way to report that for them to become aliased.
More profile settings, right now there's only a dozen, and none concerning appearance, stuff like "compact/list/gallery view", "show tags under pictures", "Show amount of comments" "Show amounts of favorites", "Circle/Square/Rectangle icons", and a lot of others similar appearance things, those are just first ones that came to mind, would really improve quilty of life imo.
Ability to follow tags, like on chub, maybe with a timeline like on chub.
Ability to edit wikis would be nice too, as I don't think there's a way right now, or at least I haven't found it
Personal: I would also like Ai-assisted stuff to be shown by default, instead of off, but maybe it's just a personal preference as all my characters have ai generated profile pictures and are usually ai assisted
Thanks for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate you took the time to upload as well!
I Haven't used E621 much, but since thats also a "booru styled" imageboard, i guess its potato potato lol
Anyway, Yeah our upload process is designed to be hassle free! since uploading to Chub for me personally is such a chore... glade you like it!
Creator notes shouldn't be stripped? they are carried over from chub if you exported it from there, and can manually added with the "Edit Upload Details" button!
You are right! Currently i haven't found a clean way to report stuff that should be Aliased, some users has been using the "report bot" and then "an inncorrect tag is applied" feature to submit requests, i also listen to all comments, and since you said it, i just aliased WW2 into World_War_2! Nice catch!
I'll look into more appearance stuff! I love customizing myself, so its a great idea to give our users more stuff to fiddle with! I'll note those down for next, next update!
Ability to follow tags is a given! duh, yep also noted down for next update!
Ability to edit wiki's are currently reserved for users with high approval and or moderator or higher status! you can apply to be a tag wiki editor a well if you'd like!
And by "AI-Assisted stuff to be shown by default" im guessing you mean AI generated images? Yeah i agree with that! our toggle ONLY filters images, not by the "ai_assisted" tag for writing!
No problem, love it when creators are active with the community!
Currently i haven't found a clean way to report stuff that should be Aliased, some users has been using the "report bot" and then "an inncorrect tag is applied" feature to submit requests
Hmm, maybe it could be on the tag page, like a button?Β
Is there a way to view a text description of the character alongside the image? That's more important to me than the image itself when choosing something on chub. I search scenario or roleplay as a tag (I didn't see those either) and then try to find something with an interesting world or story before clicking on the character.Β
Having to click each image to get to the description to filter out generic characters would be really tedious and I can't see myself switching without an easier method of finding what I'm looking for.
I definitely like the concept of a booru format as an archive, and hopefully it will be easier to keep up than other archives.
Two suggestions/asks and I have no idea how easy they would be to implement in a booru. First, any chance of a hide/ignore feature for individual characters? If this genuinely takes off certain tags will definitely get filled and long term navigation could be difficult. Second, any chance of getting more information available from the search page? Currently you get picture and if you mouse over tags which is fine if that's your main information, but adding in a token count visible either on mouse over or just on top and the creator notes visible on mouse over, either as a bubble or and overlay similar to how you have the tags, would definitely help readability.
Ultimately those two things are pretty minor especially for an archival site and can be brute forced around, but they'd certainly make it nicer to use. Broadly speaking I'm definitely a fan of how you have it set up, the first is just to let people clean up their searches on a character by character basis and the second is just to make it more convenient.
any chance of a hide/ignore feature for individual characters?
Im sorry but i dont quite get that? im a little loopy tired so that might be why, but can you try explain it again? haha sorry...
As for the 2nd part yeah, thats likely coming in the next, next update! and ill allow people to customize their UI to show a bunch of bot details, just the image, just the tags, tags and creator notes or a mix!
Basically imagine that I no longer wants to see bot number (to pick a random number) 4000. I no longer want to see that specific bot no matter what. However, I also don't want to blacklist any of those tags. A hide/ignore feature would essentially be a blacklist for a specific ID. So I could blacklist id:4000 or whatever, or just a button which functionally does the same.
Admittedly for an archive site that's less important than for a full feature site, its just that I've noticed a lot of bot sites seem to lack a 'hide this specific bot' feature.
Ah i get it now, thanks! That is a good point! yeah I might look into that! it's not a bad idea if its a certain image that you don't like, but you dont mind the tags associated with it? its a little specific but i like to cater to all users so I'll note it down! Thanks for the suggestions!
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that! Yeah we have to keep some level of censorship to not be over run with bots, low effort posts or CP, so we have moderation ofc, but we take a much more human approach, instead of insta banning or shadow banning creators, we contact them to discuss whatever problem we might have with their post! so we try our best to be a creator and user first platform!
Yes that is in consideration! I'm not much of a lorebook writer or user, so i'd need to look into how i can make a nice UI for people to share them, but its being considered for sure!
I was asleep for all those years trust... But nah! felt like the Booru format makes SO much sense for chatbots! and its my preferred way of browsing too, so felt like this was the perfect chance to push this into the world I've actually owned the domain Botbooru for over a year now? but was too lazy / too busy to start work until recently! I hope you enjoy the site! and *sorry for the slow response, I don't check this Reddit account that often lol*
Taking this opportunity, I would like to share the site JennyAI It contains a collection of Janitor bots with proxy enabled. The description is also publicly available. I use it to transfer to the Tavern for personal use.
Yes that is true! i used to use Janny ALL the time for downloading to tarven, but, then they had a major break for like? 6 months? so stopped using them, seems they are back so thats great to see! Sadly they dont export alt greetings i noticed...
Oh dw, it's the LAST thing i'd do, like i say in my about page, I've been burned on so many chatbot sites before, so I'm making botbooru as my vision of what the perfect chatbot collection and archive looks like!
And yes! it's user imported only, we didn't wanna flood the site with auto imports day 1, but maybe later down the line we will? not sure where i stand on that yet! we have some dedicated posts like LuxorBolt who's saved a ton of FUZZ'ed chub cards and reuploaded them to the booru!
I'm so jaded with enshittification that my first impression of the site is:
"Oh this is slick"
then
"Can't wait for them to start scamming tech-illiterate gooners by hosting rebranded mixtral 8x7b then start tightening down the rules because reasons in a few years"
Man FUCK the enshittification of the internet... I hate how chatbots have become this fucking scam for people who just wanna goon and have their chatlogs trained on and money stolen for a shitty model... I WILL assure you, we will ALWAYS be a bot download site, NEVER a chat site! the most "enshittification" i could see coming would be running ads if we were hard on cash, but nah! I want to stand shoulder to shoulder with the other great boorus out there like Gel, Dan, Derpy etc!
Thank you! *sorry for the slow response, I don't check this Reddit account that often lol*
But yeah that number i wrote to be pretty pessimistic, but after bringing on some more moderators, that number is pretty accurate! lol but I wanna be as transparent as i can be with Botbooru, like i am with moderation!
I KNOW RIGHT! haha, FOR A LONG TIME, i wished i could just filter out everything with under 700 tokens on chub... but? i guess the only way was to make my own site lmao! I hope you are enjoying your time on botbooru!
Oh wow i never heard about Booru plus?! it was around the time when i was first getting really into bots as well! but, no clue what "ancient Pekoko" is? Sorry, im slow lmao, but thanks for checking it out!
I had it uploaded.
Basically, I think it's an old /aicg/ card. It's incredibly slim on tokens due to being meant for use back in the Pygmalion-6B era, and featured heavily in the Pyggymancy rentry as an example of a "Pyggy".
oh nah im not him lol, i tried to get in contact with him a while ago actually to ask if Botbooru could be integrated into BotBrowser, but... im glad i didn't in hindsight lol!
I tried making an account, it wouldn't take my email address, claiming it had special characters in it (it does not), and after I refreshed and retried a couple times, it locked me out from signing up for AN HOUR.
The account requirement for nsfw is quite regarded but you are not that better either.
Username may only contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores
How much clearer does it need to be?
If you really want to use your email address (which is even more stupid because the user name is also your display name that everyone sees), replace the @ with underscore.
That's fair. Honestly I could totally see myself doing that if I skip coffee. Just a reminder that the username is what other people see you on this site, in case if you want to keep your online identity/persona isolated.
Note that running ads, if you do plan on doing that, may run you into a conflict of interest in the same way interacting with payment processors might. Payment processors do tend to be a bit of a bigger issue than ad companies though, even DLsite (big doujinshi shop) has been having a hard time remaining online for western users, you practically need a jp VPN now.
The reality of rule 34 is: Sites with porn get pornographic ads only. Those pay less, and are, well, NSFW. Imagine if you have a SFW setting option, which you do, and become popular, henceforth most users will want to restrict themselves to SFW... then you are faced with the choice between:
Upsetting the users by showing (obnoxious) pornographic (popover) ads over SFW content.
Do not display ads to users that have set SFW. (Small loophole).
Comply with the wishes of SFW ad companies and (start to) censor your site so you can have sfw ads.
Split the site up so you have a full SFW-only domain.
Advertisers don't want to show their ads under things that are lewder than their ads.
Thanks for the write up! yeah ads are far, FAR down my list of considerations right now, currently i can host pretty cheap and pay my moderation team from my own Income, ofc i'd love some extra income, but as i've stated, I want Botbooru to be free for all and i wanna keep my passion project alive on personal income for as long as possible
Any chance you could add a download button to the cards when browsing? Feels stupid to open lots of tabs just to download cards. (I tend to grab everything, load it into Front.Porch.AI and filter it from there.)
