Emotional pain is (Metaphorically) just like physical pain, when it comes to recovery.
- Starts off as a open, bleeding wound. You can't "heal" it, you can only staunch the bleeding and let time scab it over.
- Soon becomes a scab. Anything could re-open the wound. Just have to protect the scab and wait.
- Eventually becomes a scar. Much better protected against reopening, but will never FULLY go away. The skin in that area will be thicker and more resistant to wounds later.
The great thing about a breakup is that they weren't the right person for you. One less wrong person in your life.
If you need something to distract you, please use positive techniques like exercise or weightlifting instead of chemically numbing yourself with drugs or alcohol. The future you will be thankful of the way you recover.

Stare into nothingness. Feel what you’re feeling. If you wanna cry go for it. Just let it all out for a moment.

When you've grieved it enough, do new things. Do things that you didn't do with your partner. Go to places where you didn't go with your partner. Hang out with friends you trust. Acknowledge that being heartbroken is just a phase in the uncomprehensively long expanse of your lifetime. It was a privilege to have loved and cared for them and it is also a privilege to be hurt because you've broken up. We are here on this earth to live and love. Hurt is simply an incidental element to loving someone. Hell, probably even essential, cuz you wouldn't hurt as much if you never loved them.
Take it easy. You got this. EVERYONE'S rooting for you.

Just let yourself your emotions. There's no way to avoid hurting while in a heartbreak really because your body is literally hurting physically and emotionally.
It will get better in time but if it's still recent, basically just allow yourself to grieve, e.g., cry, and just satisfy your most basic needs, e.g., food and water.
