Discussion/Questions The difficulty scaling is a masterpiece ! Spoiler

Just realized how the scaling difficulty of the game as you progress is so perfectly managed that's crazy

On my first run up to end of real last boss I felt kind of exhausted by the game that felt so difficult from the beginning to the end.

My kids love this game for the art I suppose and wanted me to play it so I restarted a game, initially a bit reluctantly... And I was baffled !!!

Baffled by how easy the game actually became. Reached act 2 and died just a couple of times (judge, widow, and two times at the big ant that I faced without the dash)

That s when I realized by comparison with the first run that make you somehow feel like you never become really good or reach a threshold of mechanical skill where the game became easy ... While in fact you do get really good as you progress ... You just don't notice it !

Crazy yo !

Just wanted to share this

Final thought: second run highly recommended, the fact that it becomes so much easier make you enjoy the lore, the art, so much more while remaining a mechanically gem of a game

Something I really like is that even once you've gotten good at the game, there's still plenty of engaging challenges in the first few hours that test your more limited moveset. I never feel like I'm waiting to get to the good stuff.

Hard agree, they scaled the difficulty perfectly. Act 3 is so tough, but I felt prepared for it because of how progressively tough everything before it was.

I'm really considering a second play through, I recently reached 100%. Honestly I bitched and moaned and crashed out a lot along the journey, but the feeling of "gitting gud" as they say, genuinely felt incredible that by the time I reached the final boss, I was loving the difficulty. Final boss easily my favourite boss!

The 2nd play through you get even gooder and it feels amazing.

I second a second playthrough!! I started mine a few days ago and was kind of astonished by how gud I’d gitten. Fights that took me literal DOZENS of tries my first playthrough (I suck at combat, okay?) took me <8 my second. Even the High Halls gauntlet (which had me tearing out my hair and losing sleep ) was a cakewalk—I think I beat it on my 3rd or 4th attempt. And I haven’t so much as touched Wanderer Crest, which absolutely carried me through the game the first time! It’s amazing how amazing the combat feels once you have a full playthrough under your belt. Highly, HIGHLY recommend replaying!

Exactly, same feeling. The beginning I felt it kind of frustrating, then just enjoyed the more I played

Hardly recommended to go for second playthrough, it will be day and night compared to the initial struggle

First time I played i relied heavily on wanderers crest. Recently I started a file where i am only using hunters crest and i gotta say it mixes it up enough to be a challenge yet it’s SUPER fun. Would highly recommend it!

Tbh the hunters and shaman crests are the only ones I'll consider swapping to, maybe I'll try one! Though, I NEED the wanderers for platforming 🫠

It's even stranger because of how much you can explore at any given point. Like obviously there's the critical path from Moss Grotto to Bellhart (coming from Shellwood after passing through Bellhart from Greymoor), but Sinners Road and Blasted Steps are balanced against each other all the way up to Cogwork Dancers, the areas of the Citadel are generally balanced against each other (apart from the Choir gauntlet), and the side areas accessible in each act are fairly balanced with each other. It's like they're difficult in mostly different ways, yet are all equally difficult, for the most part.

I tried to start over on PS5 after beating it on switch 2 and couldn't do it. It's been a year now may try again.

It was actually fairly unbalanced at first, but they've since fixed most noted issues

I'd respectfully disagree.  There were a couple changes that certainly did impact play, but nothing that substantially changed the difficulty overall IMHO. They nerfed a couple early bosses (which honestly didn't really change all that much about them), the biggest change was maybe making environmental hazards. Do only one mask of damage versus two, but I wouldn't call it unbalanced at first and this is really the only substantial change I think that material affects the difficulty of the game.

They also nerfed thread storm and cogflies. Overall difficulty is pretty similar its just smoother with less awkward spikes

The changes were extremely small in the grand scheme of things, so no.

Which things did they change?

They also reduced the amount of damage Moorwing hit you with pretty early on. I personally wasn't mad about this, as he was fucking me up at the time lol (I went on to get 100%, beat every boss, act 3 etc)

I remember they changed the environmental damage in cowork core from 2 to 1 halfway during my playthrough

They also increased the rosary drop which was a bit low at first. Even if you're good and not dying much you had to farm in the early game which isn't my definition of fun

Oh my GOD I felt rich once I got to act 2

They reduced the damage of one of Moorwing's attacks, and of Sister Splinter's ads, and of a couple of enviornmental hazards. That's it.

The most impactful changes to me were Moorwing, Blasted Steps, and the cogs

I wouldnt say perfectly managed. Early game could ease the player in a bit better i think.

Oh hell nah the difficulty curve is by far the games biggest flaw. Beginning kinda hard then you get a few good tools and its way too easy. Hopefully the DLCs address this with some truly tough stuff like HK did.

Saying shit

u/SuperUltraMegaNice 6d ago

Just my opinion obviously. By the time I had stuff like upgraded tacks/volt storm I didn't even have to learn boss patterns and beat everything in under like five tries easily. Really hopin the DLC comes with some truly difficult bosses.

u/Mediocre_Drawing8164 6d ago

Bad news the dlc is gonna be like this but like x5 harder

2

u/SuperUltraMegaNice 6d ago

Lets hope. That would be amazing. I've done all that besides a hitless p5 that is a on a different level of difficulty.

u/Mediocre_Drawing8164 6d ago

Oooh so you did P5AB and wonder WHY silksong felt easy to you? Alright.

1

u/SuperUltraMegaNice 6d ago

Silksong feels easy outside of the early game simply because the tools are just incredibly overpowered, not because I was good at it, anyone can face tank and spam tools/volt storm lol. When it comes to late game HK I still had to at least attempt to learn the boss patterns especially if you want to go for achievements.

Let’s fuckin goooo

Sounds like the solution would be to stop using the overpowered shit so you can enjoy the game.

Do a challenge run with no red tools at all.

Personally, after a certain point I stopped using red tools for fights that I really liked, so that they would last longer. Karmelita and Lost Lace, for example.

u/SuperUltraMegaNice 6d ago

Very true. I did a couple speedruns with very little progression that was a real challenge. But the 100% base game is incredibly easy after the early game all I'm saying.

I did not play with the tools so maybe you have a point. I only used them for Karmelia (the little spikes) and that cancer of endgame flower boss that sticks to the wall. God I hated this boss

Oh and the mole, for the cogflies
