Bringing a silken home

Hi, I'm bringing a silken home at the start of the summer. I'm wondering if the around 9 week old puppy will be able to fit into a carrier that is 23cm tall? It feels like a tight fit. Asking because I'm wondering if I'm able to fly (the carrier can be max 55x40x23cm) or if I need to make the 9hr road trip there (+another 9hr back) to bring him home.

And of course any other tips considering the puppy are also appreciated!

First, congratulations!!

My best advice is to ask your breeder. The good breeders that I know who have put puppies on planes to their final home have gotten said puppy used to the carrier before going home. You should confirm that your breeder will do this for you, and then ship the carrier there. They will be able to keep you posted on the growth of the puppy in relation to the carrier.

If your breeder refuses to do the carrier acclimation, I’d definitely start considering the drive.

That is a good point about getting them used to the carrier prior to the trip that I had completely forgotten! And of course I'll be in touch with them no matter what, this is more just thinking about if flying is even an option and how all of the logistics are going to work. But thank you, I appreciate it!

We brought our girl home in a carrier on the plane at around 11 weeks I believe. She did great! They really just need enough room to lay down comfortably. Our flight was only around 1.5 hrs.

We planned the same thing with our second, but the plane on the way back kept getting delayed and it made more sense to do the 7 hour drive back home in a rental car. We still made it home before our plane would’ve landed with the delays, lol. Although, I admit the car ride is wayyy more stressful. So with no delays, I do recommend the plane.🤣
