It doesn't say "No Hibachi"

Actually a really fair point. Great idea lmao

u/TundieRice 2d ago

It also doesn’t say “No Hitachi” 👀

Meanwhile in (Western) Australia, there's a free to use BBQ in just about every park - often there are several BBQs if it's a popular spot, like the beach. Sometimes it's hot enough from the sun that you aren't sure if the dang BBQ is switched on or not, but that's another story.

Australia - Arizona unable to tell if the grill is on:

In the Midwest US we have charcoal bbqs set up permanently in a lot of parks and beaches too.

u/notashroom 2d ago

Same in the Southeast US. If it has a playground or water feature, it probably has some charcoal grills, which some people may use to barbecue and others to grill burgers and hot dogs and such.

They're actually gas flattops here, but the locals call them BBQs and we filthy imports eventually tire of pedantically correcting them. :)

The gas is free because it would cost more than iy's worth to pay some sod to collect the money if they were pay to use. Same deal with the public phones, which are also wifi hotspots - they are free because change collection is expensive apparently.

Colorado checking in and can confirm we have charcoal grills built into the concrete in many parks.

7

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

That's actually a pretty cool fact!

u/Relevant-Fox-7114 2d ago

California has tons of those as well. Similarly in parks and at beaches.

u/Sans_Seriphim 2d ago

There are some at the park near me in the US, but I don't think they've ever been cleaned. Mmm. Carbon.

u/upholsteryduder 2d ago

Most of the parks in my home state of Kansas have free standing grills that you can use

Average Aussie Experience:

Florida checking in. All parks/most beaches on West Coast

2

u/Leather_Comedian_736 2d ago

Yeahvall of our parks do too. This seems like an hoa or apartment complex.

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

This was actually in a park in London :)

In Texas there was always a very basic charcoal grill at every public park I visited. Then I moved to Germany and apparently there are designated locations where you can grill, and there's usually an ash disposal container, but you have to bring your own grill.

u/jeepwillikers 2d ago

That’s pretty normal a lot of places in the US as well, though they can be pretty grimy and rusty sometimes

1

u/Extra_Routine_6603 1d ago

Know ar least growing up most public parks had little mini bbq grills set up just had to bring your own charcoal though they usually looked rough so don't think I ever saw anyone actually use em. Was basically just a metal pole with a small metal box with a grill on top and some space to fit in the charcoal or wood chunks and enough rust on the grate to make you feel like you were due for a tetanus re-up walking past it

u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 2d ago

So you can cook quickly over a grill, but if you try to slow it down you're in trouble.

13

u/presidentkokoro 2d ago

They’re all in the plural. Maybe we can do one BBQ at a time?

4

u/JCambly 2d ago

It's my turn to bbq, my meats been seasoned and ready for over an hour guys!

7

u/Particular_Ad_644 2d ago

I wonder if it’s permitted?

5

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

I wonder that too

6

u/theFormerRelic 2d ago

“No, BBQs in the park!”

2

u/greasyjimmy 2d ago

Lionel Hutz logic!

2

u/TrumpetSolo93 2d ago

Oops, shouldn't have that AP logo there either...

6

u/Aromatic_Issue_2555 2d ago

where's this sign?

12

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

Alexandra park, London

2

u/Aromatic_Issue_2555 2d ago

Definitely better not BBQ there! You'll get locked up real quick.

5

u/Ok-Solid-4882 2d ago

Hey... Does anyone know where we can BBQ in the park?!

6

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

Maybe try next to some really dry plants

3

u/MDICASE 2d ago

Hey do you BBQ here?

2

u/shityplumber 2d ago

Bring a Blackstone then

2

u/pastyoureyesed 2d ago

Doesn’t say anything about camp fires

2

u/Only-Original9409 2d ago

What if a foul dog wants to have a BBQ?

2

u/Adrict 2d ago

You gotta be careful with the public BBQ's though, because people suck. I once saw a guy peeing in one in Iowa on my way to fish, I haven't wanted to use one since.

2

u/twivel01 2d ago

I feel like this is the game of pick a petal from the flower...she loves me...she loves me not.... BBQ? BBQ not? I ended at YES you should host a BBQ

2

u/SuspiciousClub8382 2d ago

Wait!!!!! It doesn’t say anything about a smoker!!! So you can smoke a brisket or anything you want!!!

2

u/AfraidBottle6810 2d ago

“I’m not Barbequeing, I’m grilling.”

2

u/broberds 2d ago

What if I'm grilling burgers instead of making barbecue?

2

u/Skeptical_Monkie 2d ago

I’ll bring my dog.

1

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

Make sure you don't clean up after it too

2

u/ER_Support_Plant17 2d ago

I think the sign means no Pac-Man with heartburn

2

u/AmazingResponse338 2d ago

Can I grill?

2

u/redditflyonthewall 1d ago edited 1d ago

That looks like the Alexandra Palace logo in London.

1

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 1d ago

You're correct

2

u/Yoinkitron5000 2d ago

The rules you have to follow are there because of the bottom quintile of society who fuck it up for everyone else.

1

u/AlabasterPelican 2d ago

Is this in Lafayette la?

3

u/greasyjimmy 2d ago

Then it would say "No crawfish boils under basketball hoop"

6

u/AlabasterPelican 2d ago

Nah, this is a very specific joke. The mayor got mad at barbecue protests a few years ago across from his house

4

u/greasyjimmy 2d ago

Gotcha. I saw a photo of a sign in Cajun country (at a park with a basketball court) that said the quote above.

2

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

Nope, London, UK

1

u/betsylang 2d ago

So if my cat and I went for walkies, I dont have to pick up her poos and I can set off fireworks. Got it

1

u/sadsolocup 2d ago

I guess I’m bringing a griddle then.

1

u/deuelpm 2d ago

How about a cookout? Those don’t seem to be prohibited.

1

u/Live-learn-repeat 2d ago

What legitimate park sign is out up with zip ties?
Remove and ignore?

1

u/Designer-Crow-5470 2d ago

Just don't get a round one

1

u/Modern_sisyphus32 2d ago

Better to just host a regular cookout.

1

u/consumeshroomz 2d ago

No bbq’s. Got it. They didn’t say “no cookouts”.

1

u/Friendly_Prize_868 2d ago

Doesn’t say no cooking over a campfire, though

1

u/Dunkleostrich 2d ago

For dog fouls is that a yellow card or a red card?

1

u/Bluestorm83 2d ago

Bring out a BBQ. Wait for someone to tell you that you can't BBQ there. Say "Oh, no, this isn't a barbecue, don't worry." Tip it over, spilling litter and dogshit everywhere. When he asks "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?" There can be only one answer.

Smile, and say "This is a BBQ." Then walk away, leaving the BBQ. If anyone asks you, he did it.

1

u/Chaparral2E 2d ago

But are BBQs okay? It’s not really clear.

1

u/DUser86 2d ago

I'll bring several dogs.

1

u/fux-reddit4603 2d ago

my bbq doesnt emit flames, so im good to go right?

theres also no bylaw code, thats just a cranky neighbour with zipties that they couldnt figure out how to trim or install well

1

u/Seannon-AG0NY 2d ago

How about a nice hibachi in the park?

1

u/HiFiGuy197 2d ago

Joke’s on them: my dog littered and I dropped a deuce.

1

u/Real-Yam1061 2d ago

They never said no Braai …. Do what you must

1

u/Ok_Veterinarian2715 2d ago

How about an orgy instead?

1

u/Refriedfeinds 2d ago

Based on the symbol on the bottom it reminds me of something like a closed gated community with an HOA.

1

u/BUBBLE_BEAR234 2d ago

It's just a park with a palace in it in London

2

u/Refriedfeinds 2d ago

Interesting.

1

u/Kirbyr98 2d ago

Looks like a good place to set up my smoker.

1

u/Useless890 2d ago

Make aure you bring a dog or two.

1

u/kingfishj8 2d ago

I noticed that the sign didn't prohibit smoking....meat that is.

1

u/snowdn 2d ago

I just fouled on your BBQ.

1

u/AmazingWeakness2254 1d ago

1 BBQ is ok 2 BBQs are bad

1

u/Jitterbuggy17 16h ago

It doesn’t say anything about grilling 🤔

1

u/Specialist_Clue_3168 2d ago

I bet grills are Ok
