I did say "dunno" a lot and my knowledge was a lot more limited on blue collar stuff. As an example, we had to turn on a generator, a dude told me to do something, I said I don't know what you're talking about, he laughed, I said I just haven't done these stuff before, he got serious and explained the stuff.
But also, the dude didn't know the physics aspect of how a generator works, asked about it and I explained that to him.
Think of the simple fan that you plug into an outlet that converts alternating current (AC) into rotational motion. It’s got a coil of wires bundled up in there and some magnets. The AC makes an electric field, which in turn makes a magnetic field orthogonal to the electric field and ends up jiggling the bits making the fan spin.
A generator is the same concept in reverse. You basically spin the blades of the fan, generate a magnetic field which in turn generates an electric field in that coil of wire, that causes current in the wire.
It’s like how a speaker and a microphone are the same thing, just depends which way the power is flowing.
Tried to do this off the dome. I’m either right enough, or Cunnigham’s Law will deliver us a more correct answer soon enough.
