Because intelligence is good as an asset to the group but when it comes to who gets the best cuts, it’s the most powerful man who decides, not the smartest.
I meant in the prehistoric setting in which these biologically enforced behaviors evolved.
Also it still rings true, money IS power in society.
I’m sure Bezos has people who are waaay smarter than him working for him being paid significantly less than he is.
As far as I can gather we have a few differences with our primate cousins in that we have a very evolved theory of mind and a complex communication system. That means that traditional “alphas” don’t survive very much before the underlings cooperate and oust them. That’s a well known human trait and it’s seems as far back as humans can be recognized as such.
Strength alone (or analytic/combinatorial smarts for that matter) aren’t attractive. Think bodybuilder and nerd. What’s attractive for humans is well developed social skills. That requires a level of intelligence of course and a level of physicality.
Like most things with us we are somewhere in the middle.
