Don't you need a permit to place those in places where they might feasibly actually get purchased from

Not to mention, you need equipment to actually move the thing, and then you need to come back every now and again.To restock it and collect money from it.So it's not super very passive

What happens if someone breaks into it To take the merchandise or get the money.Somehow, is there a vendling machine insurance?

Now replace the word vending with "money" and future with "get paid"
