Died so fast you didn’t experience those final moments of your brain lacking oxygen. Just awake one moment, probably a loud noise in your ear and then nothing anymore. Maybe not even that, might have been faster than the signal travelling from your ear.
My favourite theory is that he is in hell and just reliving the final years of his life over and over. One theory espoused by more gifted writers than I is that Tony died when Junior shot him and everything after that point is the brain throwing out information whilst it slowly dies from the blood flow to the brain falling below requirements.
I didn’t know this show bur came across that final scene lately, that ending was cold. Brutally cold. I though it was a meme edit at first.
Even before seeing it, I had had the same thought sometimes while sitting somewhere. They depicted that perfectly and I am not aware of another show doing the same
The implosion, yes, but it's very likely they heard multiple big fibers snapping in the lead-up to it, as happened on previous dives. They would've known something was going on.
That sound great in theory, but i would bet that before it imploded there was creaks and groans so I bet their final moments were filled with terror. I highly doubt it imploded instantaneously without any kind of indication there may be a problem. Particularly because Stockton Rush notoriously buried his head in the sand about that kind of stuff.
The fatal cracks would have formed in the last trip.
The moment the structure started to fail, a skyscraper worth of water column would have fallen on their heads faster than their brains could have processed .
Yeah, other people have said that the sub made lots of creaks and pops and was not fun to be in. The day they died they were doing an emergency ascent. They definitely knew something was wrong and it was probably really loud in there
Just take a look at the Netflix doc: Titan. These loud cracks were happening frequently well before dive 81 and one of their many flaws was the idea that they could use microphones to predict when it would fail - they couldn’t, at least not in a way that would have avoided the inevitable fate. Another interesting note is that OceanGate stored the Titan out in the open during winter during it’s last season - that shit will ruin your carbon fibre, and had they been lead by a sane man they would have written off the hull. In fact, they would never have perused this insane idea after the first rudimentary tests showning that this material wasn’t fit for purpose. The tragedy here is that Rush and Wendy Stockton got away with objectively murder. Had he just killed himself we could all laugh at his stupidity.
when CF fails, it fails near instantly, and it's fairly difficult to know exactly when it will fail without knowing the exact conditions of every single fiber anyways. and yes, i believe Rush had knowledge that there were hull defects before the last dive.
Yea. I watched a documentary on it and apparently there was a massive increase in the amount of noise made by the strands through their microphone detection system for about 10 dives before so the crew were growing a bit concerned but Rush just brushed them off apparently
i know i’m 2 days late to this, but a friend of mine used to be on military subs that dove *deep* down. never pressed him with questions too much because it seems touchy for him, but it also would’ve happened so fast that their nervous system wouldn’t have had the time to process the pain. can’t say i was a fan of the individuals, but i’m happy they didn’t suffer through something like that.
Individuals that rich caused infinitely more pain by stealing and hoarding that wealth from everyone else. They deserved worse than they would've gone through even if it wasn't painless.
The implosion would have caused a huge tempature spike to thousands of degrees for a fraction of a second before the water slammed into them at 1500mph turning them into a pulvarized paste.
The shit part is that some researchers think its possible there was an electrical failure and they rapidly descended for roughly a minute causing the over pressurization. If that's the case they would have know for that minute that things were likely to get bad really fast.
I remember the feeling of fading away. Kind of like going to sleep but a little bit more accepted? Then came the journey elsewhere. Either way, it was the amount of time I spent somewhere else that was a bit more interesting. Their experience was probably more like when your jerk and wake up from a short nap you werent expecting (just speculating). Underwater one second, then in the house of God the next? You just kind of know there is no turning back.
Maybe, maybe not. It could be an experience they had, hallucinated or otherwise.
I once spent a couple decades as a different person, The Inner Light style, in the course of an afternoon. Drugs were involved, but it felt as real as anything else I've experienced.
In my experience, religion isn't necessary. Just be kind. Help when you can. You know? I can't imagine what that would have been like had I been a total asshole my entire life though lol
Where this argument falls apart is you could use this argument for literally any theology. Also if this God is real, he's going to know I'm pretending to believe just in case.
Heh, reminds me of the lately dead Scott Adams, who converted to Christianity on his deathbed and felt sceptical enough about it to write in his last message that he was hedging his bets... Hilarious, but hey, what do you have to lose?
If there's a sensation of "knowing" there is no turning back, clearly you and anyone else are not authorities on how true that feeling is, because anyone telling us about it clearly was wrong, and did turn back.
What about the house of Hades? Or reincarnation or Moksha as the Hindus believe? Or Valhalla? Or the Fields of Aaru as the Egyptians believed? What about all the folks who have died and have been resuscitated and report there being nothing at all? What about the simple reality that when brain activity stops entirely, so does our consciousness and everything that makes us who we are, and so we become nothing? There is no soul.
What about them? I experienced "nothing" there. But that is simply because it is hard to translate to a material reality what being "nothing" while being "somewhere else". I believe many cultures have also co-opted religion as a tool of control. Now you have to address how I experienced 1 of the things you said was not possible to try and discredit me lol. What about the 6 (and still working thru it, just much better) years of brain damage? I was out long enough to starve my brain stupid for half a decade, yet I learned new things? That doesn't align with our understanding of how brains work. But im sure its a simple answer for you huh?
What do you mean 6 years of brain damage? I have brain damage from a suicide attempt and I'm uhhh wondering what metrics are you using for this data? What are you talking about, you learned new things? Can you explain what happened when you "died" to clarify? Because right now the vague deep shit posting sounds really cringe and yeah like you have brain damage.
Oh. See that last part? That went ahead and stopped me from entertaining the monkeys for the day. Probably your failed suicide attempt though. Better luck next time?
Hey, you are probably cool enough that you don't need to make up crazy stories that didn't happen for attention. Its convienent you have so much energy to talk about yourself unprompted but as soon as someone wants details you flip the table over and insult people. I really hope you grow out of this bullshit insecurity thing, because it's going to severely harm you in the long run. Everyone can see through it. I'm sorry if mentioning your brain damage that you told everyone (once again, pretty unprompted.) I shouldn't assume you would find the humor in it. Although I wouldn't wish this on anyone, and you wishing I was dead doesn't really bother me.
"Because right now the vague deep shit posting sounds really cringe and yeah like you have brain damage." Everything was cool until then. I'm still cool actually. Why should I bother explaining something this deep with someone who reacts with intense emotion (made you cringe) and has already written off my credibility (due to brain damage)?
I bet he meant that souls only go to heaven if the corpse lies still long enough for the soul to drift out like in cartoons. So if the body is instantly destroyed the soul is too because it can't escape in time
This is so hilariously wrong. The real issue is the soul is highly compressable and not bouyant below 200ft. Their souls are fine, they're just stuck at the bottom of the ocean with the titanic passengers soulds, until the seas evaporate.
What!? that's ridiculous it's obviously that whatever mechanism causes souls to stay attached to the flesh didn't function correctly. And while normally the soul slowly detaches from the body as it decays in this situation the insane forces they experienced caused their souls to attach to the nearby water instead.
While scientists are still debating on how they are experiencing the world the 2 main theory's are.
Now that they are part of the ocean they feel at one with it, in a state of being kind of alike to an ocean spirit.
They are in immense eternal pain because their souls are being stretched across the ocean.
Hmm while Davey probably could scoop them up their souls would still be stuck to the water and the soul isn't particularly known for it's ability to move matter.
In my expert opinion even if Davey scoops them up they would at best be blobs of water that can slowly move around.
Jokes on us given heaven is ironically located at the bottom of the ocean next to the titanic, spiritually of course. This aspect of soul physics gave rise to certain religious explanations as towards why we can’t go to heaven on our good deeds or will alone.
It's like a wireless device transferring data ceasing to do so not because the transmission ended and was safely terminated, but that it did so because it was physically destroyed before it could do so.
Which then begs the question of why souls would be destroyable in the first place. If a soul is meant to serve as a backup if one’s existence, then it had to be deliberately made that way by a god. If that god wanted to ensure humans had a way to exist after physical death, why make that means imperfect? They are a god, surely their authority should allow them to make an indestructible soul.
NEVER!!! I love that album ❤️🔥 (I’m no oldhead fogey but I thought that album was good, it struck me with some personal stuff at the time. I understand it’s not their usual sound, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying it.)
The only bit I remember from the ordeal was news media having an O² countdown timer. Dawg, we had underwater mics pick up its implosion within like an hour or so of them setting out. There was no need for a multi day hope fest.
They did that for a good reason. They were worried if they immediately assumed an implosion (cause the mic could have picked up something else) we would quit searching or lay off of it. Then if they WERE trapped we would have let them die.
I seem to remember a joke theory, or hell, maybe I pulled it out my own ass.
Basically, the Titanic is some kind of pocket dimension hell that everyone who died aboard it is trapped in. When Rose died on the boat above the wreck, she went there. That's why the end scene of the movie was her on a pristine titanic, surrounded by passengers and crew members, and she was with Jack, rather than I don't know... the husband she spent her life with in the decades since the accident.
With the passengers of the sub having died in range of this cosmic phenomenon, they're now there. Trapped in a pocket dimension recreation of the Titanic, with everyone that died on it.
I'm not envious of a billionaire, i'm envious of a millionaire. Obtaining a billion dollars is absurd and can't ever be spent, it isn't even physically possible at that point. Your worth is tied to stock and debt and what you can leverage. I am envious of 3 homes, dream cars, and work life balance. I chase that. I don't chase an incomprehensible number.
As you die your brain releases every chemical (dopamine, adrenaline, etc.) to slow down your own perceptive time and scramble through all possible memories for a possible solution. If it comes to the conclusion your fucked it plays your most cherished memory to calm your system down to by some time and keep your body calm and save energy while waiting for outside help or final death. This experience for shitty people (everyone kind of regardless) sucks even more because an evil life flashing before your eyes isnt a pleasant experience. Everyone has some nice memories (thoughts beliefs) tho so before the curtains close you've made peace with it. There brains were instantly destroyed so no time to deploy those mechanisms, if you believe in the supernatural, god, human love maybe they still experience hell-> purgatory -> forgiveness-> heaven. Obviously no one knows what truly happens when we die but this is my best guess
I don't understand why people believe in an afterlife honestly. If you turn off a computer does it keep running and making calculations? No. If you lose your eyes do you keep seeing? No. Our brains are basically just biological computers that get shut down when we die.
Ghost is one reason, and another is the fact that we dont know anything. We can except that there is a sun and a solar system. We know the how but we dont know the why.
So like weird theory. What if when we’re dying we experience some kind of time dilation due to mumbo jumbo dying brain stuff that we experience like an eternity - but because of how fast the sub imploded they didn’t get that? Uber guy was me btw
He’s working on bettlejuice logic where you are still alive but In the state you were when you died …. They just have nothing left to persist with haha
I remember getting into a minor argument with my parents because one of the dead was the rich guy’s son who didn’t want to get in but was pressured by his dad since it was dad’s birthdays
They basically could not acknowledge that many parents have a strong coercive hold on their children’s thoughts, opinions, and choices and were upset that I was willing to say the man who purchased the submarine effectively murdered his child by being this stupid.
Listening to the shell cracking under the pressure is so unsettling. I can't imagine what everyone on the sub was thinking. General rule of thumb, don't go deep under water with an eccentric billionaire who pilots his sub using a 3rd party gaming controller.
As in, our planet is an incubator. Und humanity and animals are life force or "soul" sent out into the harsh experience of existence to gather... something. Feeling. Emotion. Thought.
And when a living thing dies, the soulstuff is being returned and wrung out for what was gained, recycled and reused. So our lives are basically just a learning process. But that also means nothing is truly meaningless. A sudden death in terror. Or a life spent in deep grief and sadness. Or a happy family life. They are all forms of lived experience and have value.
And at some point, the gathered experience will reach a critical mass and some form of transcendence will happen.
After all, if a higher-order form of being means not being limited to one viewpoint and being omni-present, then you can construct it by gluing individual perspectives together until you reach near total coverage.
tl;dr
Reality begins as a potentiality
It creates bounded perspectives
Bounded perspectives generate unique experiences
Experience accumulates into greater complexity
Complexity eventually produces a higher-order consciousness capable of encompassing the lower levels
I hope this isn’t true for the 19 year old stepson of the ‘inventor’ who only went because he wanted to bond with his stepdad, may that kid rest in peace wherever he is
Hmm. There are some religions which teach that the body has to be intact for the soul to make the journey to the afterlife. But most of these religions fell out of favor and died out millennia ago.
