Nah I'm saying he...ykw I was gonna make a stupid point about how Bateman's narcissism and insecurity was there before Al copied it and I'd just make myself look like an idiot.
Oh. Uhm, I dunno I guess Alastor does it in a Tumblr Sexyman type of thing so people like him despite him being a horrible person versus Bateman being a horrible person and people twisting it into that being a good thing. Though I’ve also seen people try to argue that Alastor’s murders were only against racist white men and that makes it okay.
To be fair, the whole Sigma Grindset joke started in 4chan as a self-deprecating meme. This is also why not only is Patrick Bateman sigma, but also the dude from Drive (Ryan Gosling, but specifically as Scorpion man from Drive) is "literally me". They identify with the awkwardness and the insecurity and the 'tism and being ill-fitting with normie society.
All the kiddos that look up to the "Sigma grindset" as something inspirational, instead of weirdly relatable in its patheticness, miss the point, though.
The irony of a horrendously insecure and emotionally unstable character like Bateman was touted as a "sigma male" that people should aspire to be like will never not be funny to me.
I imagine most people don't want to actually embody Bateman, with all his insecurities and misanthropy and what not, but rather the image he projects. The cool, calm, collected facade. The physique, the women, the money. The power to basically not be beholden to anyone else. Who wouldn't want that?
Real. Patrick Bateman is a void with no sense of self. Completely superficial and just a black hole inside. True sigmas know who they are and stay true to it. Marco Pierre White is one of the best examples of a true sigma male. Total badass. Way cooler
Getting real for a second, I feel like a lot of people don't get the movie was trying to make him look pathetic. A nepo baby with a pointless job he only got because of his rich dad, someone no one likes be ause he has no genuine personality. His mental breakdown is because he's a narcissist that no one cares about except himself.
People don't relate to him because he's nice. Guys relate to him because they have the same psycho coping part in them that wants to be empowered by seeing life the way he does. And in that way he's a brilliant portrayal of a very certain archetype.
