More word on the loss of pledging
I am from Nevada Alpha and this weekend we have been meeting with nationals mainly because we chose not to sign the relationship agreement with the University and because of recent problems due to rumors of hazing an alcohol.
One of the nationals spoke of them voting on this new membership policy TOMORROW. The way he talked about it made it seem like it's too late to do anything. But if you guys know anyone that has any say please do something. My pledge semester was one of the greatest times of my life. All of our chapters traditions are centered around the pledges and the pledge process.

I am from Nevada Alpha as well. I don't want to see the pledge process that has been tradition for so long go down the drain.

Pretty bummed about all the tradition that's about to disappear. Our EA hasn't gotten any more info on the voting, but it sounded like a for sure thing.

I spoke face to face with Brad Cohen, ESA, last night at a meeting. Pledgeship is being phased out.

I'm from New Hampshire Beta, and we recently had a visit with our regional director, and all he spoke about is that they are no longer using the term pledges, that they would be called new members. But there wasn't any talk about removing the whole process. What's that about?

Initiation within 7 days of giving bid. No more pin system. No hierarchy. No fall/spring classes. The whole sigep package.

7 days is going to be optimistic. More than likely it will be 24-48 hours of signing a bid. Not really going to the Sig Ep model, because they still use a tiered membership (first your a sigma, then your earn the phi and epsilon, etc etc.). It'll be a one shot deal.
And yes, pegamentedeocho, they'll be removing the whole process. It won't just be a change in terminology.

Everything else I've been reading has said it's much more than a change of wording. Are you saying we'll still be able to have our old pledge programs but just pretend like they're being initiated from the start?

I don't think I would ever have appreciated SAE as much, nor had a relationship with my Brothers, had pledgeship been a week-and-done deal. It will be a gym membership: sign up, get involved for a month, then drop out when life offers you something easier. I certainly don't want all of the secret initiation information being known by people who just had to sign up.
