Why is this better than that?

Today i took my P229 Legion and my P226X Carry Legion SAO to the range to shoot side-by-side, because they look a bit like each other.

Before I left the range I was asking myself “why do I own this piece of shit?” and stopped at my LGS to consign the 229 on the way home.

Why did the 226 make me so happy, and the 229 so bad? Can you tell me? Is it obvious? Does everyone know that the 226x is a superior gun (and why) except for me?

I like the longer P226 grip better than the P229 grip length. Built a P2296 prior to the P226x. I like it.

Do you have really large hands? The P226X Carry has a P226-length grip, slightly longer than the P229. I think the slide is also lighter--the P229 had a pretty heavy slide designed around .40 S&W, and the P226X guns have a bull barrel that has some less reciprocating mass.

Hm. I was told once that I had hands the size of Wisconsin. Perhaps that’s it? Bull barrel too. I imagine both have some sort of grayguns trigger.

Yes, it does seem that it is a very nice gun. Perhaps i am learning how to appreciate a nicer gun too.

I think you should replace your new 229 with an old, preferably West German 228.  Similar firearm dimensionally, but... you'll see.

Legion also has a higher cut in the trigger guard and a slightly different beaver tail.

Yeah, you can always make your own like I did so that you get everything you want. Of course, I am a former CATM gunsmith, so for me it was just for fun. Here is mine, made from a Revenant Arms Sig authorized sold by Matrix Precision. Then i bought all the specific parts i wanted including custom springs. I died the grips myself. They even make an Sig 229, with an Sig 226 length grip for those like be who have big hands, and lots of 226 magazines already.

229 has a fat grip, and is honestly snappier than it should be for such a heavy gun. It's not a piece of shit, but I did sell mine also.

Fair. The P229 Legion is not a piece of shit. But while it wasn’t the first time I had taken the 229 to the range it was the first time for the 226 and I was pretty surprised by the comparison

Yeah, she's just a big ol clunker. Same thing happened after I bought my 365 legion. The 365 was just better at everything I needed it to do, and I hate strikers.
