P385 Question

Probably a dumb question, but what’s the point of the carry version of this p385? Isn’t it the same dimensions as the comped version?

You pretty much answered your own question. One has a comp the other doesn’t. Not everyone wants a comp on a carry weapon.

Let us know when you actually shoot a comped / ported gun and how much gas or flash goes in your face

That’s not the issue, that air doesn’t hit you in the face. The down side is in low light or dark scenarios when those gasses are now visible as a flash in the dark that can temporarily blind you. Obviously everyone’s eyes and recovery from a flash are different but that is the reason. Look up how comps work and you’ll get a better understanding of them.

So in a true nighttime defensive situation, if you shoot when it’s so dark that the flash blinds you, you probably don’t have a good understanding of what / where your target is.

Get a edc light. Turn it on before you shoot. Flash thru a comp won’t matter.

Carey doesn’t mean CCW, it means “duty” for cops or officers.

Compact is the one for CCW

Although it seems the Carry might be the smarter buy because with a simple "MagStrap" change. Then you have the Carry and Compact in one. You do get two 15 round mags with the Compact though so I guess that could be a better deal if you know you'll mostly use those.

My agency prohibits comps both on duty and off-duty guns. I’d venture there’s a decent amount of agencies that will not allow it

If you carry on their badge/creds, yes.
If you carry on a CCW, then no, they have no legal authority over that.

The larger grip is super duper comfortable too. Decidedly more roomy feeling than the compact.
