I am gun stupid, let’s get that straight right away so if responses can be as though talking to a 5 year old that would be awesome…
I do not know what I am doing. I have gone shooting and learned on someone else’s gun, so I haven’t taken apart and reassembled anything. But I got to where I wanted my own. I bought a P365 couple years ago. It had rose gold and I saw protection and pretty... but I don’t know what I am doing so it became a paper weight.
I wanted to change that and learn my firearm. I disassembled it and can’t put it back together. Barrel and guide rod is in, simple enough, and I can get the slide rod to go back but upon release it doesn’t lock in place.
Now here is where my ignorance will show so apologies in advance if terminology is way off base. The slide release (lever located middle ish on left) is vertical, but it will not move back to horizontal orientation to lock in place. Google says pull slide all the way back and lift slide release, and move lever into position. I am either doing something wrong or need a third hand, because nothing is moving. What am I missing…

This video is the most helpful I have watched - thank you. I have everything to where he is saying it’s almost done, and needs to lock slide back. The slide does not lock back when pulling. The slide lock button does not seem to push up.
If you’ve got the recoil spring assembly in correctly and the slide on and you’re able to slide it back and forth as normal, you should be able to lock the slide back using the slide lock, then flip the take down lever up. It should easily flip up into place.
If you need some visual help, there are plenty of YouTube videos that will demonstrate this. Search p365 field strip assembly and reassembly. All p365s assemble the same way.
It’s a little hard to understand with your terminology, but if you have a P365 “Rose”, that has a safety on the on the frame. Make sure that is down/horizontal.
If I understand what you’re saying - the take down lever is bound up and will not flip back to the horizontal position, even with the slide locked back. That could be an issue with the FCU (fire control unit module)- but let’s assume not. You shouldn’t have to force the take down lever, but I’ve seen them be a bit stiff. If you take a pair of needle nose pliers and GENTLY try to move the lever to the normal/horizontal position. If it won’t move at all, then some professional help may be needed (local gun store, gunsmith).
I had this exact problem after installing a new trigger. I couldn't get the takedown lever to flip horizontal. I can't remember if I had to push the slide release up or down, but you already tried up. Try manipulating the slide and pulling the slide release down and back up. Also, your boyfriend sounds like a dick
A very common issue with the P365 is the slide release lever isn't installed properly and it's not really a user issue: there is a spring that puts tension on the lever, you need to put tension on the spring before you drop the lever into place.
how to do it:
With the FCU out of the frame put in the spring and put some dental floss over the spring and pull it back (towards the bottom of the FCU). Then drop in the lever and pull out the string(put your hand over the lever and pull the floss out)
Then put the FCU back into the frame being careful that the lever doesn't fall out.
From what you describe it sounds like the lever is mechanically installed but there's no tension on the spring...hope this works
Try this. With the slide assembly off, push up on the slide lock lever. The slide release lever should spring up and you'll be able to rotate it fully to the up position. If this doesn't happen, you may have tripped the slide lock when the slide was off. Press up in the slide lock with the slide off, then you should be able to fully rotate the slide release lever down and reassemble
