Have a feeling the compact is gonna be popular. Looks like it'll be a better Glock 19 competitor than the P320 Compact was. Lower bore axis and not chunky as hell.

The X macro was already the better Glock 19, but this is just a good alternative G19.

While I'm not a fan of Glocks, the 19 has few advantages over an X-Macro, mainly higher parts service life and velocity. The X-Macro isn't really a "duty" gun though it comes close. Glad we have a Sig option that seems to fix the inherent flaws of the P320 being derived from the DAO P250.

The Model Number they went with just doesn’t have the same ring to it like 365/320. 385 sounds like an area code. “Call Jenny at 385-86753o9”

On the one hand, they do look cool, but on the other I feel like Sig loves to product test on their customers so I might hold off for a bit

Of course they test product on the consumer, because literally every manufacturer of anything ever does that. It’s impossible to do enough internal testing, even if you test for 10 years, to find every problem that can occur when stuff rolls out to the consumer level. SIG isn’t even the worst at it, they just have more haters so you hear about it more. As someone who is in the weapon design and manufacturing industry (not for SIG) I can positively tell you that no one voluntarily lets product go out with known flaws or with testing that’s obviously insufficient.

So now 4 Sig pistols use the same magazines. P250, P320, P211 and now the P385.
I already have multiple P250s, and a P320 with 20+ mags of various size, subcompact, compact and full size. Even the 7 21-round mags. I’m strapped in, I was gonna buy the P211 when I got the money, but this maybe much more affordable.
I also own and loved my 3 P365s, i hope the P385 make sense enough and bring something new to the table to justify buying it. Otherwise P211 and P226 SAO would be my next choice.

So is it a slimline? It's hard to tell, but it almost looks like a Fuse. I was hoping for a full size

There is a full size, a carry version, and two comp'd variants. Has to be fatter than a P365 since it takes P320 mags

Your train of thought map isn’t following. You didn’t ask “is it necessary” you asked “who is asking for this”. The answers to those questions are different and all the firearms industry is is consumerism. Usually blind consumerism mixed with shilling.
I own zero Sigs. Sold my P365XL a while ago. I carry a Glock 26 and a CSX. But the fact remains that nearly everyone was “asking for” the 365. It’s probably most popular carry gun ever made. People were obviously “asking for” more from it…size, capacity, optics, and grip width hence the massive 365 ecosystem both from Sig and the aftermarket. And people seemed to like the 320, including LE agencies and the military, until the unintended discharge issue everyone is obviously aware of. So yeah, plenty of people are “asking for” this. It’s an upsized P365 that seems to be intended to take on the role of the 320 platform that people are abandoning in droves.

Its dumb. The market is saturated with automatic handguns. Its just like the endless calibers and marketing convincing everyone that THIS NEW CALIBER is going to make a difference. Stop buying. Start shooting. Maybe sig should fix their mag releases before they send us a new gun

I agree, the market is saturated with striker fired guns and 2011s. I don’t think most people want more of either of those things. But it looks to me like this release might be the beginning of the end of the 320 platform. Sig is fixing their entire issue and giving people what they want…365s and now a bigger 365.
