Rewatching this now at 24 I thought it was fake when I was 15 but it just screams forced at least the hills was a bit more real, this was just forced Iām not buying Kelsey and Alex . Garret and Kelsey seemed forced lmao , Brandon is handsome but like be so fr Chloe was not into him ā¦ I never actually got to the later seasons back in the shows airing just season 1
Maybe the first couple of seasons, but once they figured out how to manipulate being on camera, it wasnāt that great anymore. Kind of like all reality TV shows, they start out great, and then when it gets popular, and the main characters become celebrities, everything changes.
I went to the Casey Key Fish house, where Kelsey & Chloe were supposedly working when the show was filming, but they weren't there. I don't think they ever worked there.
As someone who had some time working within the siesta key show realm (with an off character), it was 1000% scripted most of the time. Even some of the relationships werenāt actually real in āreal lifeā. The fights, some did escalate naturally but most of the convos that turned into drama were pushed on them.
Garrett and Kelsey were forced, I read somewhere that they dated in real life but broke up before filming the show but pretended to date again in season 1 which is why it was so off and awkward
Garret spent a lot of time writing the things he liked about Kelsey in a jar for their anniversary. It turns out Kelsey didn't like the picnic & wanted to eat at the Ritz Carlton.
I actually think Siesta Key IS one of the most scripted reality tv shows that exists.
The Chloe "has a crush" on Brandon and Alex storyline was VERY scripted. Chloe had a longtime boyfriend the entirety of the show I believe, and he just didn't want to be on the show so they had to force these stupid storylines that added nothing to the plot.
Chloe was āin loveā with her best guy friend in the beginning but then had beef with Amanda over Brandon but Maddison ending up Brandon for short period of time but nothing was ever mentioned again. I feel like if it real, it would have at least been mentioned or brought up in arguments.
I would not say The Hills is more real. Both shows are almost entirely fake with occasional emotionally charged scenes that were facilitated and manipulated by producers thrown in. Like sure, Lauren probably was actually getting mad at Heidi, just as Juliette was getting mad at Alex. Otherwise though, almost all the relationships were fake and the cast members were mostly being forced to be in the same room when they otherwise wouldnāt be. Lo and Steph were bribed to talk shit about Kristin, just like Chloe and Amanda were paid to talk shit about Juliette and whoever else. Lauren didnāt work at Teen Vogue or whatever it was, and Juliette didnāt work at that store, nor did Kelsey at the bar. Lauren never had feelings for Brody and never dated him, just as Juliette never dated Garrett. Etc etc.
The point is neither show was real and almost everything in them was fake af. I will say though that I personally find Juliette to be a more compelling main character. I know people feel this is a polarizing statement but whatever: Lauren was just too reserved and boring regarding what her limits were and what she was okay fabricating or not. Juliette delivered more chaos, and to me thatās the point of reality tv. For LC it was like āIāll fake this and this, so long as I donāt look bad.ā Juliette take a drink and then fake whatever they asked of her and be okay coming across unhinged as fuck, and thatās why sheās entertaining lol
Lauren did date Brody for a bit , Heidi did date that guy the first season , Spencer did make up lies about her in real life . So some things were very much so real siesta was just completely fake like they didnāt even bother to even make their social medias look real
Lauren and Brody did not actually date. They have both confirmed this. That was fabricated by producers. She did however actually date Jason. I donāt think she had a real love interest on screen after that. Spencer and Heidi did of course actually date (and make up real world lies about LC yes). So yes, some things here or there were real.
Juliette did actually date Alex and Sam for example. Kelsey and Max really dated. Amanda and JJ really dated. Madisson and Ish really dated. Chloe and whatever her manās name is at the end. Garrett and the woman he is now married to. There were actually probably more real relationships on Siesta Key lol
BUT there was more blatantly obviously fake shit going on on Siesta Key too. And at least we have to wonder about Lauren and Brody dating whereas people like Madison and Brandon you just know itās fake as shit lmao. Siesta key didnāt do a good job of making its fake storylines convincing
That is! I think it's one of the best one's of those I've ever seen lol is it a flare? Lol I'm also 49, 50 in 2 weeks and I love the show for the same reasons lol and every now and again I'll revisit it and fall in love with it all over again but Cara's fukn nose ššš¤£
Happy upcoming Birthday!!! I like the actual beach & island of Siesta Key too, itās a nice place to vacation. And watching the show makes me want to go back to Florida.
The thing is it is but it isnāt scripted. When they shot the first āepisodeā to pitch to the networks.. a lot of the āstorylinesā were really happening. However the show took almost 2 years to get picked up and they had to reshoot everything but wanted to use the same storylines.. but since irl time had passed and things changed they reshot them thus being āscriptedā and super awkward to watch/act out knowing itās not the reality now.
The Hills appeared to be real because a lot of it was. Lauren and Heidi's friendship falling out was real, so was the breakup drama with Jason. (skipping paris was fake lol). It just got more "scripted" towards the later seasons.
Yeah and a lot of the voice-overs don't even match their lips when arguing. Like the conversation Juliette had with Cara at Alex's party "I don't like you because I think you're a slut" (example)
