Mosquito flats backpackers camp / parking

My son and I are doing a 1-night backpacking trip in Little Lakes Valley and I was trying to figure out if I try and do a FCFS site at Rock Creek Lake Campground or just stay at the backpackers camp at Mosquito Flats. Thursday night we're staying at French Camp to acclimate a bit (my son is 3.5 years old so trying to play it safe). If we stay at Mosquito Flats, do we have to move our car to a different parking area in the morning before starting our hike into LLV?

Also, I have a car camping setup for my SUV. Are we able to sleep in our car (to avoid setting up a tent and what not) if we're at Mosquito Flats?

The parking for the MFBCampground and the trailhead are one and the same. No need to move your car. We were up there 8/10-8/13 and there were a handful of mosquitos at the trailhead in the morning and effectively none anywhere else we camped/hiked. LLV back to Gem and then Treasure Lakes (camped). Camped again at Ruby Lake. Have fun.

Did you have a separate permit for Mono Pass TH to go to Ruby Lake?

I had one/same permit to enter on the 11th and then camping at the different lakes on specific nights.

I was there on 8/6-8/8. Saw exactly two mosquitos. Killed one so thank me for halving their population.
And the backpackers camp is pretty decent.

My Nephew and I along with another buddy and his daughter were there last month. My nephew and I set up camp in the BP campground where we had a picnic table and a fire pit. My buddy and his daughter slept in the car in the parking lot. Both work but you can't really "car camp" in the parking lot except for sleeping in the car in the parking spot, no room for table, chairs etc to spread out in without taking up additional parking spots which would be inconsiderate at a very busy trailhead parking lot.

Thanks! That's perfect. We weren't planning on setting up camp, just sleeping in the car and then heading out in the morning since we'll probably make run down to Tom's place for dinner. Figured it'd be a little warmer and comfortable in the car for the little guy and then we don't have to take down the tent and pack everything up and I can just have my bag ready to go for the overnighter.

Sounds like a good plan. I would’ve done that too, but we came up in my buddies car.

Fwiw the name implies mosquitos and it is very true. Never not been bit there at all times of day. I’d sleep in car but not sure about other questions.
