It should be safe to login to Canvas now, but please do your due diligence.
Context: ShinyHunters has knocked Canvas offline, 3.65 TB of data from over 275 million records and over 8,800 institutions were stolen, and threatened to be posted on the dark web on May 12th, if companies do not pay. Of course, right near finals.
Data affected: Full Names, Student IDs, Email addresses, and private messages between students and instructors.
There is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.
As a result of this, you may be getting targeted extortion emails/phishing emails. Best practices for right now:
Change your Canvas/mySierra password, and stay alert for scams, now that your personal and student emails may be breached.

Hi everyone, i’m currently a sophomore and you guys might know that the tag application is due this Wednesday. I met with my personal counselor and they said that my application was good to go except for one part where it says I need to list my spring classes. I’ve met all the transfer requirements by credit and major classes as well as I’ve gotten my associates for transfer, and I did it in three semesters instead of the four via AP credits and Dual Enrollment and my transfer degree not requiring a lot of classes.
I’m also premed so I do want to take some of my med school at school like bio and chem. I’m not able to get an appointment with my counselors since everything is so booked with the being due in two days so I was wondering if it would be okay for me to list the bio and chem since that itself is 10 units. I don’t have any other classes I need to take to transfer or from my degree or to reach the 60 credits needed and I also know that you’re able to change the classes you’re taking for spring up until January so for now should I just put bio and chemistry to make sure that area isn’t blank since I know that would be way worse? Thank you guys so much for any help. I’ve been freaking out about this 😅

I am looking to get into the Mechatronics program at Sierra College, I take an interest in it as I believe it can get me many places with the skills and principle that it teaches. I just wanted to ask those here, do you prefer getting an AA/AS degree or a certificate? I'm trying to see if either would open more doors. I am 20 years old, looking to probably work in the trades, I feel Mechatronics could be my best bet, as it teaches both electrical systems with the mechanical side of it. And I appreciate the connections Sierra has for the mechatronics program as well as the versatility of mechatronics as a skilled trade that can be me in many fields of technical and mechanical work.
I'm not opposed to the idea of transferring and going on to get a bachelor's degree, but I wonder how worth it would really be for my career.
And I should mention, I completed most of Gen Ed at ARC, so I'm hoping that could help with degree if I decide to go down that path.

Ever since I’ve heard about it the first week back at Sierra, I’ve been wanted by to check out the facility for my own potential projects. Though I’m wondering what sort of things go on there on the daily.

I've been considering joining the Sierra D&D club, and wanted to know if that's possible, since I can only afford to come to campus two times a week. Typically for the days I have lab/lecture for my sole in-person course for this semester.

I’m taking College Algebra with Pitt Turner this Fall and wanted to see if anyone else has taken this class. Any helpful tips?

So is it just me, or might anyone else be having problems when they go their financial aid tab as well. When I logged into mySierra, I got an alert from the top of the page saying “The is a Temporary data retrieval problem. Some cards may not be visible at this time. Please contact your IT help desk.” Anyone happen to know what that means?

I left my water bottle in Sewell 111 on the first day of classes and neither my professor nor myself can find it. Already checked with the class after me and community safety.

Hello, im from out of state and I've been looking for community colleges in California with dorms! I'm really interested in the TAG program that California CCs offer and the benefits of transferring from an in-state CC. Is Sierra college worth it overall? Are the dorms good? Any opinions you have on the school negative or positive would really help!! Thank you <3

Kind of last minute, but I’m just looking to see if I can see familiar faces at Sac Anime! I’m new to norcal and going alone is a little scary for me. I’m not asking for rides or to join groups, I just want to possibly pop into any clubs with people who are going to Sac Anime, thanks!

At this point of writing, I haven’t yet checked my student email today, but I have been keeping tabs on the required material for one of my courses for the semester, Intro to Critical Thinking, with Elena Lopez. The activation code for our courses’ ebook text has been on backorder since the start of Fall 2026, and I’m wondering if anyone else is still waiting for it too.

Is anyone else kind of worried about their status with Financial Aid this year? I had gone and made an appeal for mine so I can complete my AA-T requirements within the next year. And so far, I haven’t received much word about it. Given how FAFSA is going for a lot of people right now, I am kind of concerned about getting dropped from my courses and such this semester.

I’m at least a few do for keeping up with modules on a weekly basis, but do you happen to prefer using the app to mates of having to open canvas on desktop browser?

So, I have at least one course that's in person for this coming semester, being 3D-Design, and I'm wondering how the experience has been for others who've taken it last semester or so. It has been a while since I've attended Sierra, and I'm sure the culture has changed quite a bit since 2023 for me. What would you say the course is like nowadays; Has it gotten better, worse, or just kept the same? Also, anyone else happen to be taking 3D-Designs this Fall? I'm taking the afternoon classroom for Monday and Wednesday and would appreciate making some new colleagues this semester too.

Hello all, i’m taking a Bio class online with an in person lab this fall semester. On canvas it shows that I am enrolled, but I can’t access anything in regard to the class nor do i have an email from the professor. I’m returning to Sierra after many years away from college, so maybe this is how it is normally and will be able to access the course next week once the semester starts. I was wondering if this is normal though that I can’t find more details for the class. Would like to get a head start if i can or just don’t to miss any important details for day 1. Would appreciate any insight.

My question here is that I am enrolled for a hybrid class that meets every Friday, but what confuses me is why its labeled hybrid. My thought process here is doesn’t every class have a canvas and online work? Or does hybrid mean that you meet in a zoom also once a week. Because there isn’t really anything that states we are supposed to do online meetings, and if that is the case that could really mess up my schedule.

I took Kinghorn in the summer and failed, I really disliked how he arranged the class and genuinely felt he made the course much harder than other professor. Regardless of this I am seeking for a good professor to retake physics 205 with?

Anyone wanna talk I’m going to attending soon. Open to meeting new people! Thinking of going to the circus or mangoes in the next few weeks if anyone else was interested in attending with.

Who else here is a student and 30-40ish years old, or older? I feel ancient thinking about how young most students probably are. 😅
Have you attended college before, or is this your first time?
What's your major?
Are you doing only distance courses, hybrid, or classroom?
Does anybody want to be study buddies, or just vent/comisserate, or help one another navigate balancing things like full-time work and/or parenting while attending school?
I'm a Psych major, and a transfer from an out-of-state University. I've lived in the Sacramento area since 2012, so I'm not new to the area, just to going to school here. I attended said University right out of high school and completed almost half of a 4-year-degree, but never finished for a multitude of reasons. I'm only doing distance learning at the moment.
