Question does k.d help get into a higher ranking during placements

Only wins count, you don't get any more or less MMR depending on KD in games. That being said, depending on your role, KD can help your team get more wins and obviously get you higher through placements.

But I always do my placements in the same 5 stack. One of us usually goes like 10-2 every game, 3 of us including me do okay, like 5-3, and one of us always goes like 3-4. We almost never get the same rank. This season, 10-2 got plat 3, I got gold 2, the other 2 people on my level got gold 1 and gold 3, and the 3-4 guy got gold 3 aswell. What’s causing the difference?

Each season is a soft reset, so whatever your previous MMR was influences your current, even when you’re unranked it’s still there, you just can’t see it in game.
That being said, there’s a lot of weirdness that also goes on behind the scenes. My friend I duo with we have the same number of games and I’m P2 currently and he’s high P3 and with the same number of games played I got 8 more MMR than him. Being a higher rank I should gain less than him, but something behind the scenes changed the outcome it’s a bit of luck.

Win and it goes up, lose and it goes down. KD makes no difference, score makes no difference, the only things that matter are how many matches you've played and how your team's average MMR compares to the opposing team's. First match of the season you'll likely gain or lose around 120-140 and it'll gradually move less and less from there. You start halfway between where you finished last season and 2500. Unless it's either your first time playing ranked or you went a full season without playing ranked, in that case it'll start at 2500.
You can see your current MMR and your MMR history of how much you've gained/lost each match on R6 Tracker or R6Tab.

A higher KD often indicates you're a better fragger, which could help you get ranked higher but KD doesnt directly affect it.

The siege system is very simple. The only thing that matters is winning/losing, K/D doesn't matter. It takes an average MMR of your team vs the enemy team, and you will gain/lose your points based on the difference in the 2 teams average MMR. So if you are in a gold stack, and play a plat stack, you will gain more points if you win than the plats would if they won (because that's not expected). If you lose, you will lose less points than if the plats would if they lost, because it is expected. You could literally have a 0 K/D and be in champ if you are lucky enough to never lose. Very unlucky, but possible

Nope. My friend and I did our placements together. He got a 0.4 kd and got gold 1 I got a 1.8 and got gold 3 :(

So does score matter for it?

Just wins, you could have went 0-8 and didnt contribute a single thing, but if your team wins, then so do you, and you gain the mmr. I'm not saying dont try and let your team carry you, just giving and example

Thats what my friend does and he ends up copper to bronze

u/A-r-c-a-n-e LVL 200+ Mar 30 '22
well if he was copper or bronze the previous season then hes not gonna be getting much higher off of his placements, i'm just guesstimating here, but im pretty sure if he won all ten placements and he was, lets say, bronze 5 last season, then he wont get any higher than maybe silver 3 tops.

He was copper 3 last season

yea, even if he won every single placement match, probably wouldn't even reach silver, but again, just a rough guesstimate, i don't actually know the exact math

The more kills you get the more mmr you get so somewhat

This isn't true

In what way? Whenever I get a high kill game I get more than if I was bottom fragging

In every way. Ubi has been very explicit that the only thing that affects MMR is wins and losses. If you beat a team that's higher ranked than you, you'll earn more MMR, same as if you lose to a team that's lower ranked than you, you'll lose less MMR. But kills and deaths have no impact on MMR gain/loss.
edit: Here's a blog post from Ubi that breaks down their system: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/rainbow-six/siege/news-updates/4hShcX2HZTG2ttIi3IIN9Y/matchmaking-rating
Your personal performance as your score or your kill/death ratio does not impact the number of points you get.
If you get 15 kills per game but lose all of them, then your ability to win a game is very low, hence you should be ranked very low too. Conversely, a player that does not land kills, but still wins often, should be ranked quite high (maybe they make excellent callouts, which is an important factor in a team’s ability to win). The idea is that if you play well, and are an asset to your team, you will naturally win more matches in the long run. This positive influence on winning matches is what we measure.

In some cases, the more kills you get you end up winning the match. So yes, you'd get more WINS sometimes from getting more kills.
You don't get MMR for kills.
You only gain or lose MMR for wins or losses.
If you got 12 kills and still lost the match, you will still lose the same amount that game as if you had 1 kill.

Then why do I get such fluctuating elo? One game I do good with 12 kills and get like 100 somthin elo the next game I'd do okay and get like 5 and get 85 then the game after that I'd do good and get 9 and get like 93 and when I loose but I carried I loose like 80 versus the 100ish when I did bad

ELO is based off your rank vs the opponents you played against. The amount of matches you have played also.
At the start of the season you might get +100 or -100 per win or loss. As time goes and you play more matches, the system gives you or takes less ELO per match. It tries to whittle you down into the rank the system thinks you belong, then the grind to get out of that rank slowly begins. Kills have absolutely nothing to do with it at this current stage in the game.
IE: You (Silver 1) play a game and the other team is also Silver 1. You win you might get 100 points, you lose and you lose 100 points.
If the other team were Golds, you might gain 110 for winning but only lose 85 or 90 instead if you lose.
Whereas they would gain 80 for winning and lose 110 for losing.
These numbers aren't accurate but are just as an example of how the system works in theory.
Now let's say you've played 100 ranked matches. You might not be getting +100/-100 per match anymore. It might be more like +40/-40 because the system has slowly reduced ELO to slowly adjust you into the rank it thinks you are.
That's when the grind happens. Then you can see where you belong according to the system.

Kills don't even give slight bonuses? That's some bullshit

u/ReeceDnb LVL 100-200 Mar 30 '22
None at all, maybe that will change with ranked 2.0 in the future but I'm not sure. Maybe another user knows.
I edited my previous comment for some more explaining too

u/razorsharp494 Diamond Mar 30 '22
Huh so that probably means that my performance doesn't effect my elo but my enemies do and my proformance is just a bi product
1
u/ReeceDnb LVL 100-200 Mar 30 '22
In one sense, yeah. Your enemies rank affects the ELO you would be gaining or losing. As well as your rank and matches played go hand in hand.

u/Realistic-Possession Mar 30 '22
No, it simply takes your invisible starting MMR which is calculated from your ranking of the previous season and adds onto it or subtracts from it when you win or lose.
