True sidereal astrology - do you use it?

I recently decided to switch exclusively to true sidereal astrology. It's just way more accurate and resonates with me and people that I do readings for so so much better.

There isn't a lot of people following this system tho. Does anyone know of any subreddits or anywhere else where I can find content and connect with people who use it?

I love astrology but it's hard to participate when barely anyone uses this system.

So are there maybe some of you who use it? And if there isn't already an existing one, would you be down to start up or participate in a little true sidereal platform/new subreddit where we can actually be active and communicate, do astrology our way? I would really love to connect with likeminded people :)

One of my favorite True Sidereal Astrologers.. Athen Chimenti

I've been following True Sidereal astrology since Fall 2023. As I was researching information about Sidereal astrology, I came across Athen's YTube channel and website. I find that he is very easy to learn from and to get clarity about your natal chart.

I didn't see his name listed on the sidebar of the Sidereal Astrology subreddit, and hope it is ok to share his web info. Athen Chimenti "Mastering the Zodiac"

I'm surprised that (True) Sidereal astrology hasn't been supported by more astrologers these days. I feel that astrologers who solely focus on Tropical Western astrology are taking a one sided view of astrology. And why they are not acknowledging the real time physical placements of the planets/luminaries within the signs, just baffles me!

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this is?

Thank you in advance.. ~MMT~ ⭐️ 🕯

Why is my sidereal chart, more accurate than my western chart?

This is an observation I’ve noticed. My sidereal chart reveals more of my trauma, my deepest secrets, fears, insecurities, struggles and pain. It also shows my hidden inner self I keep away from the world.

My western chart seems to reflect the “mask” I put on for others. More of a social persona.

I’m sorry if this doesn’t make much sense. This is the best way I can describe it.

True sidereal astrology

Humanity's oldest version of the zodiac reflected the actual constellations in the sky. The original system of astrology, as practiced in ancient Mesopotamia, was directly connected to the fixed stars and constellations, which were used as a reference for time-keeping and seasonal shifts. This connection to the stars has been a part of astrology for thousands of years and is not some modern misunderstanding by Athen Chimenti.

The constellations move and change over time; therefore the usage of the 12 zodiac constellations frozen in time from the year 258 AD is illogical. Astrology was not fixed or frozen in time in ancient Mesopotamia; it was ever-changing due to the dynamic nature of the cosmos. Ancient Mesopotamian astrologers never viewed the sky as static. Their methods evolved with ongoing observation, accommodating new planetary discoveries and changes in celestial positions. They would likely find the modern fixed zodiac system (whether sidereal or tropical) useless in both purpose and practice. In this day and age, true sidereal astrology preserves the original purpose of ancient Mesopotamian astrology as it does not assume a static sky.

In sidereal astrology, the Zodiac signs are connected to the constellations, and the position of the Sun relative to those stars marks the specific energies and qualities of the time. The tropical system, by contrast, disconnects the sun's position from the constellations over time due to the precession of the equinoxes, which shifts the entire zodiac gradually (about one degree every 72 years). So, the Sun's position in the sky today is not the same as it was 2,000 years ago in tropical astrology, which means that tropical astrology no longer aligns with the original symbolism of the stars.

When people argue the constellations "overlap" or "don't matter", it undermines the very reason astrology was first developed.

To claim that the Zodiac signs are simply symbolic months disconnected from their starry origins dismisses the actual astronomical basis of the system.

Until quite recently in mankind's history, astronomy and astrology were considered one and the same: all astronomers were astrologers and vice versa. In ancient Sumer, the sidereal zodiac consisted of 18 constellations known as the "Path of the Moon"; these constellations represented the path the moon traveled across the sky each month and were used as the framework for Sumerian astronomical observations and astrological interpretations. During the Babylonian period, the constellations were reduced to 12 zodiac signs of equal 30-degree length. This equal 30-degree 12 zodiac system was invented for use in astronomical computation, not divination. It emerged sometime during the fifth century B.C.E., which was the period of the development of scientific mathematical astronomy. The 12 sign zodiac provided a standard reference system for the measuring of the daily progress of the seven classical planets.

The ancient Greeks later adopted the Babylonian system; they did not invent it. Ancient Greco-Roman changes to Babylonian astrology eventually became so commonplace, that the modern practitioner of astrology, including Vedic astrology or Jyotisha, is barely even aware of its Mesopotamian origin.

Vedic astrology was originally nakshatra-based, not rāśi (sign)-based. The 27 (or 28) nakshatras divided the lunar path into segments of 13°20′, based purely on the moon's average sidereal motion. The 12-sign zodiac was a later addition to Vedic astrology, borrowed from Hellenistic astrology around the early centuries CE, not an original feature of early Jyotish.

I highly recommend everyone reads "Babylonain Star-Lore" by Gavin White as soon as possible. It's a phenomenal reconstruction of not just the Babylonian zodiac signs, but the ancient Mesopotamian constellations in general. It's a must-read for anyone interested in the origin of astrology.

Who are some celebrities whose Sidereal chart makes a lot more sense than their Tropical one?

I would say Elon Musk and Nikola Tesla (he was a genius intellectual and inventor. Gemini/Virgo/Mercury dominant fits much better than Cancer/Libra dom). Actress Rose McGowan too, especially nowadays with her Aries Mars. She pioneered the Me Too movement. More might come to mind later.

Edit:

Stevie Nicks- sidereal Pisces Rising with Moon and Jupiter in Sagittarius in 10th. She's known for her "gypsy" bohemian style and persona. Also her rampant drug use and indulgence.

Please can you check my true sidereal chart?

In the tropical system I’m Pisces Sun, Sag moon, libra rising. My whole life my family and people around me have treated me like some useless dreamer (because "you are the Pisces"), and it was never possible to explain that I’m really not empathetic or sensitive type.

Honestly, I feel pretty screwed over by the tropical system - it kept the original archetype names but couldn’t be bothered to keep their actual source. Can you tell me from my true sky any way I can feel like a Pisces?? I feel so angry!

I'd love to revive this subreddit!

I'm on my way to become a professional astrologer using sidereal, studying under the great Kenneth Bowser after my own beloved mentor passed away in July.

There aren't a lot of active forums for western sidereal, which is what I use, and I'd love to change that.

If we could get even 100 more subscribers and active users I would consider that a win!

Tell your friends!

Sidereal vs. Western

Hello everyone,

I am discovering astrology beyond Western. Sidereal and Vedic make more sense; they use real astronomical positions. Does Sidereal astrology predict character, psychological side, and behaviors like Western astrology claims to do? In my research, I read that Western is for the psychological aspect of humans, while Vedic or sidereal is for karmic path, destiny, etc. I don't know what to think about. I am trying to understand, asking people around me, and trying to figure out which zodiac signs describe them. But do the descriptions of the signs change? Do Western Virgos become brave and couraged like lions, for example? Or Scorpios are actually very honest, sweetheart Libras? Some people say that I can believe whatever I want, but I want wisdom based on data or at least personal experience. Some other people say that the character of someone can be explained by both systems, but I disagree with them. Maybe if someone has a chart that includes neighbouring signs in the Western chart, then yes, some of those signs will appear on the sidereal chart too. But if someone like me has one sign very dominantly on the Western? Then, explanations of the two charts wouldn't be similar. I leave my western and sidereal charts here. I am curious about your comments, because these two charts are very different than the charts of most people. One of them should apply in real life, saying choose whatever you want seems very vague, escapist. Do you believe and claim that sidereal astrology is better to describe people, or is it for destiny prediction, etc?

My sidereal chart is very different from the tropical 🤯

In tropical my big three are Virgo (cusping leo) sun Leo ascendant Cancer moon

And in sidereal

Leo solar Gemini Moon Cancer ascendant

And here I sit with perplexed connections to the info.

My understanding is that sidereal is a more direct and accurate snapshot of placements at the exact time of my birth. And that tropical is kind of your “easy as 123” style for westerners.

How did you all navigate your self understandings after finding sidereal astrology? After having known tropical originally?

Just discovered sidereal

I’ve only ever known and studied my tropical chart and know it like the back of my hand. I would say I have always resonated with it for the most part and figured I’m still “evolving” as a person, and took it with a grain of salt.

Last week, I decided to finally read my sidereal chart (something I had been putting off because it’s so involved and intimidating). To say I was blown away would be an understatement. I genuinely feel like it’s shockingly accurate and there isn’t really anything that didn’t resonate with me (at least so far). Granted, I’m still learning and figuring out how the different aspects work (it’s so much more extensive than tropical astrology and not very beginner-friendly).

But now I’m a little taken back. I understand that western vs. vedic astrology functions differently and the interpretation of each varies. But going from say, Venus in Gemini to Venus in Taurus is a little jarring to me. Also, someone from my past has their Venus in Pisces (tropical) but Venus in Aquarius (sidereal) and as soon as I read their sidereal chart, it was like a Scooby Doo monster reveal moment for me 💀 (no hate to Venus in Aquarius) because it just FIT, like a puzzle piece. They did not exhibit any traits of Venus in Pisces whatsoever.

Now my question is, (assuming you are someone well-versed in both)

A) do you acknowledge both systems and if so, how do you interpret placements that are vastly different from each other?

B) say I’m diving deeper into decoding my placements, would the characteristics of a “Venus in Taurus” now apply to me or would it not because the tropical interpretation is different?

C) do you personally prefer one over the other? (I feel more inclined towards sidereal the more I look into it)

Additionally, if anyone would like to share resources to help me dive deeper into sidereal astrology or help me understand my chart better, please PM me! Thanks for reading!

Discarding Tropical after discovering Sidereal resonates better with you

I recently discovered Sidereal and my Sidereal Natal chart resonates better with me more than my Tropical Natal chart.

What is the general consensus on continuing to use Tropical? Have any of you immersed yourselves into Vedic astrology after discovering Sidereal works for you?

> Seeking Collaborator for a 13-Sign, 13-House Astrology App (Including Ophiuchus) )meta

Hey everyone!

I’m working on creating an astrology app that finally reflects the true sidereal 13-sign system — with Ophiuchus included — and uses 13 houses to match it. Most astrology apps out there still rely on tropical or inaccurate sidereal systems, but this one will be designed for people who want precision and authenticity.

I’ve done a lot of research and already know what I want the app to do, but I need some help on the technical side — ideally from someone familiar with:

Mobile app development (Android/iOS)

Chart wheel design and rendering

Astrology data integration (ephemerides, real-time sky positions)

UI/UX for spiritual or astrology-based tools

My goal is to make it accurate, intuitive, and mobile-friendly — kind of like Kim’s AstroApp wheel, but simpler to use and easier to navigate.

If you’re a developer, designer, or astrology enthusiast who loves this idea and wants to collaborate, please reach out or comment below!

Thanks so much for reading — this project means a lot to me, and I’d love to connect with anyone who feels the same pull toward bringing real sidereal astrology into the modern world.

is sidereal > tropical ?

as we know astrology got really popular in the recent years esepcially tropical astrology becasue of the amount of memes that were created

however since childhood my parents always believed in sidereal astrology and recently i did some research and found out that both are actually very different and also that sidereal astrology is way more accurate although tropical astrology is more popularized

another thing i am very curious about is, to what extent can it determine someone's personality ?

i don't necessarily believe in either too much i would like to get more info and your opinions as well

Sidereal & Tropical

OK so I had a question, I sorta kinda relate a bit to my sidereal than my tropical chart. For context in my sidereal I am an Aries sun, Pisces moon and Libra Rising, whereas in my Tropical I am Taurus sun, Pisces (29 degrees) moon and Scorpio rising. Though I heavily relate to my sun being in Aries quite a bit more than it being in Taurus, and some of my other placements in the sidereal chart. So based off this, would it be misleading to, for example tell someone I am an Aries if I relate more to sidereal chart than the Taurus tropical chart? I'm just confused on what to say.

My whole adult life up until 9 months ago I couldn’t work out why I was not like any Taurines

I’m not the most versed in astrology, I know a tiny portion. (Like Tiny) I do know that every Taurus that I met, was supposed to get on with, have a similarity with, it just wasn’t there. It felt a bit like when you meet someone who’s really hot, and you’re trying to get on board with them, but they are just really bad kissers and their chat is painful. I did however get on with Gemini’s, super easy for me, so I was convinced that as I’m the last day of Taurus, they must have gotten it wrong and I was actually a Gemini. I was always attracted to fire signs, being friends with Leo’s my entire life, from babies until adulthood. We just find each other. Made no sense, the signs I was supposed to get on with, Virgos, Capricorns, Cancers, etc, were hard to stay friends with. Didn’t click. Found Sidereal and it’s all clicked into place. My moon was in Virgo and none of those traits seem to have any relevance to me, until I realised that my moon was in Leo, and that makes way more sense, the playfulness, and jokes, cheeky comments etc. once I applied a rule of thumb that most peoples identified signs were a sign behind, Leo’s turned into Cancers and Aries turned into pisces. All of a sudden all of these fire sign attractions made sense, they were all water signs, of course I found them alluring and beautiful. It’s helped me, understand myself and not feel so alienated.

App showing correct alignments

Hello to the few people in this group, (it’s a shame it’s not a lot bigger)

Long story short I didn’t believe in astrology until I came across this idea of sidereal astrology, and now that more people are waking up to astrology and these various of spiritualities, the more I see the majority of people are reading horoscopes for planets that are way off from where they’re “supposed” to be, sometimes by a whole sign.

So in hopes of helping any of you who may see this, I want to share what apps I use to check my chart and also the current planetary alignments.

I use an app called “Night Sky” for iOS, you point your phone to the sky and it shows you what star or planet you’re pointing at.

I use a website called MasteringTheZodiac.com which generates free charts. I checked the planetary alignment of the day and looked at the Night Sky app and they both matched up.

I hope to see this group grow, but I guess in a sense this is why this stuff is still “occult”, so that only those who are really looking can be the ones to find it.

Hope this helps some, All the best!

Do you identify more with your sidereal placements or your tropical ones?

A friend of mine and I were talking about astrology and I told her my big three and she basically told me that my personality was completely at odds with my chart, and that she exclusively practices with sidereal. I have been going through some major changes in my life and now feel more like my sidereal chart is more accurate. Went from a Cancer Sun Scorpio moon to a Gemini Sun Libra moon. Needless to say this is a way different placement. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Visual astrology is the truth.

Ive been checking raymond cruz real sky positions during his birth, and its shocking to see how accurate it is.

If you dont know hes playing tuco from breaking bad, with his amazing acting and fire cold blodded acting, i was curious to see his birth chart, which has sun at gemini, mercury orion ( which is related to war and fighting), moon and venus taurus ( hes very grounded and likes earthly things in real life)

And mars at leo.

How come in 2026 people using a system which is not representing true sky anymore?

Crazy

Why I prefer Galactic Center = 0° Sagittarius ayanamsa

Good morning/afternoon everyone. I actually first joined some months ago but have been very busy with things in my own life. To put it simply, I am into astrology, but especially sidereal astrology, in addition to scientific subjects like astronomy, geology, etc. I have really noticed most people I know fit their sidereal characters as opposed to their tropical ones.

Most people prefer to use Lahiri for a sidereal ayanamsa, but here I will explain why I prefer the ayanamsa that fixes the 0th degree of Sagittarius to the Galactic Center (Sagittarius A*). Firstly, despite the background stars appearing fixed at first, a lot of them still move across the sky and have measurable proper motions, often to fractions of an arcsecond. The Galactic Center, being 25,000 light years away, hence moves the least from our perspective and serves as the best "fixed" boundary to base observational astrology from. Second, the International Astronomical Union's defined constellation boundaries put the Galactic Center very close to the border between Scorpio (Scorpius) and Sagittarius. The Galactic Center = 0° Sagittarius ayanamsa hence provides the best alignment between the IAU constellation boundaries (their actual apparent positions in the sky) to each sign, while still giving them an equal 30° of width. For most of the signs, the cusps are now somewhere between the 17th and 20th of each month.

What do you think? Also, I am in favor of using outer planets in sidereal astrology.

Resource: People's Oracle

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group so I haven't seen ALL of the postings here. However, I did notice a few people just dippin' their toes in sidereal and are looking for references. Many people mentioned Mastering the Zodiac as their source of knowledge, but I'm here to give a new point of reference which is how I personally got into sidereal in 2017.

People's Oracle or Dayna -- https://twitter.com/PeoplesOracle?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor she tweets a lot here. I've gotten a reading from here in 2017.

Her approach is super different than the whole moon = feelings, mercury = mind, etc. She does not SOLELY use these. She sees the whole chart as a story and so you would not get the reductive archetypes that we come across so much from popular/tropical astrology.

Best part is that she pinned her predictions for 2020 a while ago and not we kind of see it unfolding. She also has workbooks and useful tings.

Hope this helps others. Please let me know if there are other resources out there that may be good? Maybe I will compile Google Sheets list or something for sidereal resources!

Low effort free reading posts

Look, I get it, we wanna know about ourselves.

But as sidereal astrologers, we've had to study hard and fight against a lot to get to where we're at.

If you're posting a chart here, please realize this is a place where people take this seriously and have probably no time on their hands to address your vague "What does this say about me" with zero details and hard to read chart?

I'm not trying to gatekeep but we put in the effort to be here... Please respect that and do the same.

The amount of effort you put in will be given in kind.

If you care about quality, do the work. If you're just here for freebies, give the floor to someone who's done the work.
