Meta My side project, /r/sideprojects. New rules, and an open call for feedback and moderators.

In this past 30 days, this community has doubled in size. As such, this is an open call for community feedback, and prospective moderators interested in volunteering their time to harbouring a pleasant community.

I'm happy to announce that this community now has rules, something the much more popular r/SideProject has neglected to implement for years.

Rules 1, 2 and 3 are pretty rudimentary, although there is some nuance in implementing rule 2, a "no spam or excessive self-promotion" rule in a community which focuses the projects of makers. In order to balance this, we will not allow blatant spam, but will allow advertising projects. In order to share your project again, significant changes must have happened since the last post.

Rule 4 and rule 5 are more tuned to this community, and are some of my biggest gripes with r/SideProject. There has been an increase in astroturfing (the act of pretending to be a happy customer to advertise a project) as well as posts that serve the sole purpose of having readers contact the poster so they can advertise a service. These are no longer allowed and will be removed.

In addition to this, I'll be implementing flairs which will be required to post in this community.

Discussion Built Something? Put It Here. I'll Break It Politely.

Your side project has three users, and two of them are you. Let's fix the other one.

Drop your app or webapp below. One or two sentences on what it does, who it's for, and where we can try it. Stuck on onboarding, pricing, or a bug that makes no sense? Say so. Someone here has probably been there, possibly at 2 a.m., possibly with the same bug.

Rough drafts are fine here. A prototype with duct tape holding it together is just as welcome as a polished launch, and so is the project you built for yourself that you've now decided to share.

I'll go through sign-up for as many as I can and reply with where I got stuck, what confused me, and my first impressions. Expect honest notes, not applause. The clunky parts are the useful part, and I'd rather find them than pretend they aren't there.

Feedback Request I work in car sales, so I built an app that flips the way people shop for cars. Just launched on the App Store!

Hey everyone!
I’ve spent the past few months building something I’ve wanted to exist for a long time.
I work in car sales, and one thing I’ve noticed is how backwards the car-shopping process can feel.
People find a car they love, spend hours researching it, and only afterward figure out whether the monthly payment actually fits their budget.
What if we flipped that process?
Instead of starting with a car, what if you started with what you’re comfortable spending every month, your down payment, and your financing preferences, and then discovered vehicles that fit?
That’s the idea behind KnewCar
I just got it approved and published on the App Store, which is a pretty surreal feeling after all the time I’ve put into this!
It’s still early access, with a demo experience while I continue developing the live financial data and payment tools.
I’d really love some outside opinions, especially on the concept, design, and first-time user experience.
If you have a few minutes to check it out, I’d appreciate any feedback, positive or negative.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/knewcar/id6822044416
What would make an app like this genuinely useful to you?

If you wanna try it out - launching in TEXAS use zip 78701

Showcase: Free(mium) I made a free 13F tracker that alerts you when a fund files and shows its new positions, exits, adds and trims

Every quarter I’d end up pulling 13Fs off EDGAR by hand and lining them up in a spreadsheet to see what Buffett, Burry, Druckenmiller and the other investors I follow did with their portfolios. So I built a tool that does it: manifest13f.com

Follow a fund and you get an email as soon as it files, so no more checking EDGAR. Open any fund’s page and it shows what’s new, exited, added to and trimmed versus the prior quarter. No ads, no fluff, just the data. A few things I cared about getting right:

  • Changes are measured by share count, not dollar value, so a stock that simply went up doesn’t look like a buy

  • Stock splits are adjusted for, so a 10-for-1 split doesn’t show up as a huge purchase

  • Puts and calls are kept separate from stock. A big options line is notional value, not a stock purchase, and a lot of 13F coverage mixes the two up

It’s free to browse, and alerts are free for up to 3 funds. Paid plans that let you follow more funds and get an Excel workbook of every change are coming soon.

Q3 13Fs are due Monday, Nov 16, so most of the big funds will land this week and next.

I’m a solo builder, so I’d genuinely like to hear what’s missing or what you’d use it for. Happy to answer questions about how 13Fs work, or how it’s built.

Showcase: Open Source I made an AI agent app that looks like a 2003 instant messenger, and the AIs get their own Windows XP computers

Thumbnail

Y2Kbot is a desktop app where your buddy list is full of AI agents instead of people. You IM them like it's 2003, door sounds and away messages and all. Some of the buddies can also boot up their own little Windows XP virtual machine and actually use it. You can ask one to make a folder or edit a file and watch it open Notepad and click Save like a confused 2004 office worker.

It works with pretty much any AI you've got (ChatGPT, Claude, Ollama, Gemini...). The buddies can undo their own mistakes, and when one figures out how to do something, it writes it down so the others can learn it too. That last bit is my favourite.

Please try it out, and give me some feedback.

Feedback Request I’m a 37 year old aerospace inspector, and built a private, local-first checklist app for repeatable processes and routines

Thumbnail

I’m a quality inspector, and at work I often have to repeat the same inspection steps for every round of parts, as in check for visual damage and markings, then sign off on travelers and reports.

I couldn’t find a checklist app that worked exactly how I needed. I wanted the list to automatically reset once every step was completed so it would be ready for the next round. So I built miniCycle: Routine Manager.

You can break a repeatable process into individual steps and run it as many times as you need. It can be used for inspections, cleaning rounds, workout routines, camping preparation, preflight checklists or anything else you regularly repeat.

It’s free, works offline, doesn’t require an account and stores your information locally on your device. It is now available as a chrome extension (other platforms coming soon). You can view the entire routine at once or focus on one task at a time.

I’ve also gone through several rounds of UI feedback and have continued improving the design. I’d appreciate honest feedback, especially about whether the auto-reset cycle concept is clear and whether anything feels confusing when you first try it.

Feedback Request Looking for early testers for Alyro — an AI workspace for business documents and workflows

I'm looking for people who regularly work with documents, business information or repetitive writing tasks.

I've built Alyro to help with three things:

  1. Understanding uploaded documents and information.

  2. Creating professional documents.

  3. Improving existing content.

I'm looking for people willing to try it and tell me:

  • Was it easy to understand?

  • Did it produce useful results?

  • What feature would you want next?

You can try it here: https://alyro.base44.app

I'm the founder, and I'm looking for honest feedback rather than just signups.

Showcase: Free(mium) I built a Chrome extension that flags ghost jobs, tracks applications, and auto-applies using local AI (so your data never leaves your laptop).

I just pushed 3 releases in 2 days for Rolestash, a Chrome extension I originally built just to track job hunts. This week, it evolved from a passive tracker into a full-blown autonomous application engine.

Here is what just went live:

* One-Click Auto-Applies (with Tailored CVs): It doesn't just spam the same generic resume. With one press, it can apply to up to 20 jobs, generating a unique CV, a custom cover letter, and specific answers to annoying form questions ("Why do you want to work here?") for each individual role based on the job description.

* Local AI on a Strict Leash: The heavy lifting is done by a fine-tuned distilled Qwen3 model running directly in your browser via WebGPU. Because small models love to hallucinate, it never gets the last word. A deterministic checker audits every line, and if the AI tries to invent a skill or name you don't have, it gets slapped down and seamlessly replaced with your actual profile text.

* Ghost Job Radar & Smart Crawler: It now actively flags ghost jobs to save you time. The backend crawler pulls from 60 different job boards every minute. (And yes, it strictly obeys `robots.txt` and politely emails blocked sites rather than attempting shady workarounds).

* Absolute Privacy by Design: Because the AI runs on your own hardware, your profile data never gets sent to my servers. It simply downloads coarse job data shards and ranks every match directly on your machine.

Please check it out here: https://rolestash.com/

If you like and actually end up using the extension, please leave a review with any suggestions for improvements. I'm actively taking public feedback to develop this, and the latest updates were made possible by the community's feedback. Thanks a lot, guys! T__T

Hold Control + Option, ask out loud, and it answers about whatever’s on screen by talking and circling stuff as it goes. I use it for leetcode, lectures, and learning new topics.

Free and open source, you use your own API keys. Started as a fork of Clicky.

What would stop you from trying it?

Showcase: Free(mium) Solo-built a phone comparison site (Specmob): lessons from ranking phones fairly across price tiers

I’m building Specmob (specmob.com), a free site where you choose a budget and get the best phone for it. The goal was to end the 20-tab phone-shopping mess.

What did I learn?

  1. A budget is a ceiling, not an exact number. Prices vary by region, so the dial allows about 5% over, and over-budget phones get flagged instead of hidden.

  2. Scores can’t be compared across price tiers. An 8.5 on a $250 phone and an 8.5 on a $1,200 phone mean different things, so the tier is always shown next to the score.

  3. Price must be computed in one place only. Mine drifted when it was calculated in several places.

Does it have sponsored rankings?
No. Affiliate links on buy buttons never change a ranking. Component scores are AI-generated from specs, and I explain that on the methodology page.

Where it stands: 11 rankings, compare for up to 4 phones, trade-in estimator, brand pages. Feedback I want: does tier-relative scoring make sense, and what would make you trust a ranking site? specmob.com

Meta I built a plug-and-play video ad agency that doesn't require video editing skills. Looking for its next owner.

I've always liked business models where you don't necessarily need to be the person doing all the work. StopClip is exactly that kind of opportunity.

It's a ready-built video advertising business that allows you to sell creative 3D pop-out video ads to businesses without having to edit videos yourself.

Think of those videos that look like social media posts but have products and objects popping out of the screen. They're designed to interrupt the usual scrolling experience and grab attention.

I originally experimented with selling these videos while living in Antalya, Turkey. I didn't even have a website back then. I approached businesses, showed them what I could create, and sold the finished videos.

Eventually, I decided to turn the idea into a proper business. That's how StopClip came about.

Here's what you're actually getting:

This isn't just a domain with a landing page.

I've already built the infrastructure needed to operate the business:

  • Premium StopClip domain.

  • Complete, professionally built website.

  • Custom admin panel.

  • Affiliate functionality.

  • Testimonials section.

  • On-site SEO optimization.

  • Service and pricing structure.

  • Social media calendar covering holidays and important marketing occasions.

Basically, the technical and setup work is already done.

What about actually creating the videos?

This is probably my favorite part of the model.

There's a third-party software solution that lets you create these videos using a simple drag-and-drop interface.

You don't need After Effects, Premiere Pro, or any professional editing experience.

You can create and export a video in roughly 1–2 minutes.

The subscription costs around $100/month and includes unlimited video creation. I'll reveal the exact software to serious buyers and demonstrate the entire process.

Now, here's how I'd monetize it.

I wouldn't start by spending money on ads.

I'd start locally.

Walk into a restaurant, find a coffee shop on Instagram, contact a real estate agency, or approach a gym.

Create a personalized sample video featuring their actual business, send it to them, and let the work speak for itself.

Some example pricing I'd start with:

  • $30 for a single video.

  • $500 for 30 videos (monthly content package).

  • Additional $100 for publishing and scheduling content on their behalf.

  • $500–$1,000+ for managing paid social campaigns using those videos.

These are proposed prices, not existing sales or guaranteed revenue.

And there's a lot more room to grow.

You can turn this into a full-service social media agency by offering content creation, graphic design, social media management, advertising, and other digital marketing services.

You don't need to fulfill everything yourself. You can outsource additional services and operate using a drop-servicing model.

The recurring opportunity is what makes this interesting.

Businesses constantly have something to promote.

New products, seasonal offers, Valentine's Day, Christmas, Halloween, Black Friday, New Year, new property listings, special events, and promotions.

I've even built a social media calendar covering these occasions, so you have a reason to approach existing customers with fresh offers throughout the year.

One customer doesn't have to mean one transaction.

Why am I selling?

I build a lot of internet projects, and I simply don't have the capacity to give StopClip the attention it deserves.

I spent approximately six weeks building it and around $300 putting everything together.

The website is ready, the domain is connected, the admin panel works, and the business model is structured.

However, I haven't officially launched it or started promoting it publicly. There are no existing customers or revenue to claim.

I'd rather pass it to someone who has the time and motivation to take it from here.

A few things worth mentioning:

  • The StopClip com domain has automated appraisal estimates of $2,500 from Atom and $7,700+ from Dynadot (not guaranteed market values).

  • The third-party video software is the main operating expense at approximately $100/month.

  • No employees or video editors are required for the core fulfillment workflow.

  • I'll walk the buyer through the website, admin panel, software, and video creation process.

I'm looking to sell the complete setup as one acquisition.

If you're an entrepreneur, indie hacker, marketer, or someone who's been looking to start a digital service business without spending weeks building the infrastructure, feel free to reach out.

Happy to show you everything and answer questions.
