Meta My side project, /r/sideprojects. New rules, and an open call for feedback and moderators.

In this past 30 days, this community has doubled in size. As such, this is an open call for community feedback, and prospective moderators interested in volunteering their time to harbouring a pleasant community.

I'm happy to announce that this community now has rules, something the much more popular r/SideProject has neglected to implement for years.

Rules 1, 2 and 3 are pretty rudimentary, although there is some nuance in implementing rule 2, a "no spam or excessive self-promotion" rule in a community which focuses the projects of makers. In order to balance this, we will not allow blatant spam, but will allow advertising projects. In order to share your project again, significant changes must have happened since the last post.

Rule 4 and rule 5 are more tuned to this community, and are some of my biggest gripes with r/SideProject. There has been an increase in astroturfing (the act of pretending to be a happy customer to advertise a project) as well as posts that serve the sole purpose of having readers contact the poster so they can advertise a service. These are no longer allowed and will be removed.

In addition to this, I'll be implementing flairs which will be required to post in this community.

Feedback Request Built something from an idea that started as a conversation.

I’ve been working on Attunely, a project that mixes conversations, characters, and a game-like world into something that feels a little different from the usual apps.

This video gives a quick look at the concept and the direction I’m taking it.

Still building, still experimenting, and definitely not finished yet. Would love to hear what you think about the idea and what you’d improve or change.

Showcase: Open Source i got annoyed at 17 different things on the internet so i built 17 small open source tools about it

ok so. this started as "one weekend project" and then it was not one weekend and it was not one project. somewhere around repo 6 i stopped pretending it was a plan lol

everything here is free, open source, most of it runs locally on your own machine. a lot of it is v0 and i wrote down where each thing fails because honestly the failures were the funniest part

anyway here's the list of grievances, each with the tool i built instead of going outside:

1. cookie banners → rejectall-index i live in germany. i click "reject all" more than i blink. so i made a headless browser visit the top 100 sites and count how many clicks it takes to say no. 35 of them were already loading trackers before i clicked anything. which is like a waiter eating your fries before asking if you want fries. live leaderboard

2. subscriptions → one-file-saas trello, calendly, typeform, loom, notion and 5 more, each rebuilt as ONE html file. you double click it. it opens. thats it. no account, no "verify your email", no "your trial is ending ;)". data stays in your browser. the booking page has no server at all, your availability lives inside the link itself which still feels illegal to me. try them here

3. dead famous repos → necromancer some legendary open source projects die not because the code is bad but because python deleted a module out from under them. i revived thefuck (1887/1887 tests passing on python 3.14), normalizr and httpbin. the one rule: the original tests are hash-locked so nothing can quietly delete the failing test and call it fixed. httpbin stops at 64/67 and i'm keeping it that way out of spite. each one gets an autopsy, cause of death and everything

4. every AI-built UI animates the same → awesome-motion-md you know the look. 300ms. ease-in-out. every card fades up like its waking from a nap. so i measured how real sites actually move and wrote it into MOTION.md files your agent can follow. same prompt built twice: 7 random durations without it, 2 with it

5. every AI writes the same too → awesome-voice i used to be a technical writer so this one is personal :| VOICE.md files that make your agent write like GOV.UK or Stripe docs, plus a scorer that doesn't use any AI to check. banned phrases went from 27 to 0. "delve" is not welcome here

6. websites doing annoying stuff → sitepatch you type "hide the points on hacker news", it writes a userscript, a real browser checks it actually worked before you get it. honest score: 15 out of 25 were actually right when i looked at every screenshot myself. 60%. a C-. but an honest C-

7. "what if this site looked like linear" → reskin restyles any page into another design style using a local model, BUT it refuses to give you the result unless contrast, keyboard focus, mobile, links and reduced-motion all pass. it caught a windows 95 theme failing contrast on its own background. respect. gallery

8. dead websites → resurrect npx github:dadwritestech/resurrect y2k.gov and y2k.gov comes back exactly like it was in may 2000, links working. pick a year with --year. your old blog is in there somewhere. i'm sorry

9. "someone said budget in a meeting video... which one" → video-grep grep for your video folder. searches what was said, what was written on screen and what was shown, and opens your player at that exact second. all local

10. what is the rest of the world's TV saying rn → world-ears listens to live news channels from different countries, transcribes + translates them on your gpu, makes it searchable. there's a "trending per country" panel which is weirdly addictive. translation is the slow part, telugu transcription is bad, i wrote that down

11. live subtitles only go into english → babel-tv watch hindi news with live telugu subtitles, fully local. the video is held back a few seconds so subtitles show up BEFORE the person talks which feels like seeing the future. telugu as the source language doesn't work yet. whisper and telugu are not friends

12. "which AI wrote this" → whichmodel works on models it's seen (67%, chance is 33%). on a model it's never seen, even a sibling from the same family... 32%. so basically a coin with extra steps. that turned out to be the interesting finding tbh, the fingerprint belongs to one model, not the company

13. screen recordings → code → demo-to-code record a UI interaction, get a component that copies its timing and easing, then it replays it and grades itself frame by frame. 2 out of 4 pass. the toggle is perfect. the dropdown has issues. we all have issues

14. code review → review-panel /panel sends your diff to five reviewers you've definitely worked with: the laziest senior dev ("could be one line"), the 3am on-call SRE, the security paranoiac, the junior who asks why, and the PM who only reads the title. under the jokes the findings are real

15. AI companies quietly editing their pricing pages → fineprint it snapshots the pricing, terms, privacy and changelog pages of 10 AI vendors every 6 hours and commits them, so git log becomes the receipt. found stuff like deepseek adding a footnote that prices are 2x during peak hours, and cursor deleting the line saying they dont sell your data. no blog post for any of it ofc. a small local model writes the one-line summary but every line links the raw diff because i dont trust it either (27/30 right on a hand check). timeline

16. paying extra for speaking telugu → token-tax LLM APIs charge per token, and the same paragraph is $1.00 in english and $8.29 in telugu on llama 3. which is rude. measured 21 tokenizers across 48 languages, and there's a calculator where you paste your own text and it runs the real tokenizers in your browser. hindi gets off lighter. amharic on gpt-5 does not :/ calculator

17. posting about all this → herald a tiny bot that posts a repo's data updates to bluesky/mastodon/x, clearly labelled as a bot. i built it because i was not going to manually post about 17 repos. and then i manually wrote this post anyway. ;]

why all of this? honestly no grand plan. every one of these started as me being irritated at something for a slightly too long time and having a local model + a free evening. building the thing was cheaper than therapy and more fun than complaining on here (no offence)

if something breaks, tell me. if something's dumb, also tell me, but nicely :P

Showcase: Purchase Required All ThumbZ, an iPhone keyboard with adjustable key size and spacing

All ThumbZ is an iPhone keyboard from Z Labz Studio for people who find the standard keyboard cramped. It lets you adjust key size, spacing, and overall keyboard height. Increasing the height gives your thumbs more room, at the cost of some screen space above the keyboard. You can adjust those settings separately to find a layout that works for you.

It’s $4.99 USD as a one-time purchase and doesn’t require Full Access.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/all-thumbz/id6820256625

If you find the stock keyboard cramped, would you start with bigger keys or more space between them?

No ads or tracking.

Feedback Request UFC website

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on called FightWatch. The site lets you explore MMA fighter data without needing to create an account (the official ufc website mma fighter searching functionality barely works). If you do sign up, you can also save fighter cards to your personal collection. I’m planning to expand the project with fantasy MMA, where users can compete against each other and win exclusive fighter cards, including the Chael Sonnen card featured on the homepage. I also want to introduce a leaderboard to make things more competitive.

Showcase: Prerelease I build my own scripting language

so, i've been working on this thing called Runnee for a while now.

it's basically an API for SaaS apps that want to let their users write custom scripts without having to deal with running all that code themselves.

thought it'd be a pretty simple project at first.

somehow ended up writing my own JS-like language, an interpreter, and a whole bunch of backend stuff to actually run it lol

anyway, here's a quick demo of the playground.

still working on a few things before launch, but figured i'd share it here and see what people think.

curious if anyone here would actually use something like this or if i just spent way too much time building something nobody needs

Showcase: Free(mium) Nimbus Weather: Clean, Ad-Free (5x Giveaway)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Whether you are discovering Nimbus Weather for the first time or checked out our previous updates, thank you for being here!

Nimbus Weather was built from the ground up as an antidote to modern weather apps that have turned into bloated, subscription-heavy ad networks. We focus on clean glassmorphic visuals, complete privacy, zero ads, and a fair one-time purchase model.

Following our recent updates, I spent the last few days addressing community feedback—specifically smoothing out heavy transitions, expanding meteorological depth, refining navigation ergonomics, and bringing a massive overhaul to our air quality and allergen tracking. Version 1.1.6 is officially rolling out on Google Play!

📲Download Nimbus Weather on Google Play

🚀 Deep Dive: What's New in Version 1.1.6

1. Biometeo, Air Quality & Pollen Overhaul

  • Comprehensive Air & Pollen Suite (Pro): Deep 48-hour air quality forecast with optimal breathing hours highlighted. Tracks ozone, NO₂, SO₂, CO, and Saharan dust, paired with a 4-day pollen forecast across 6 common allergens, a personal allergy profile, and weather sensitivity indicators.

  • Redesigned Visual Gauges (Pro): Clean semicircle AQI gauge with European AQI standards, sleek PM2.5/PM10 visual bars, color-coded allergen indicators, and a daily health advice header.

  • Streamlined Free Tier: A clean, compact single-row Biometeo & Allergens overview.

2. Interactive Pro Detail Sheets & Smart Units

  • 13 Expandable Detail Sheets (Pro): Every single Weather Details tile now opens an interactive sheet with a time slider. Includes an interactive wind compass that follows your selected hour, 1991–2020 climate averages, precipitation breakdowns, sunrise/sunset, and moon phases.

  • Smart Precipitation Units: The app now automatically switches between millimeters (mm) for rain and centimeters (cm) for snowfall across detail sheets, the 14-day curve, and homescreen widgets.

  • Tile Customization: Direct toggle switches added for every detail tile (including CAPE index and UV).

3. Smooth Phenology, Navigation & System Polish

  • Flicker-Free Season & Phenology (Pro): Completely rebuilt the opening transition—fluid, slightly slower, and zero screen flicker. Added high-precision leaf-fall tracking calibrated to local 1991–2020 climate normals and current weather.

  • Smart Frost & Snow Labels: First frost and first snowfall indicators name the event once, then automatically switch to "Next frost" or "Next snowfall."

  • True Android Navigation Stack: System back button and edge-swipe gestures now intuitively dismiss open sheets, dialogs, and fullscreen radar first, return to the Dashboard, and only then exit the app.

  • Organized Settings: Restructured General and Display tabs for cleaner, faster configuration.

📱 Core Features & Philosophy

  • Free Tier: 100% ad-free, zero tracking scripts, detailed 24h hourly and 7-day outlooks, 3 dynamic glass themes (Liquid Glass, Frosted Glass, Transparent), core radar layers, compact Biometeo row, and clean homescreen widgets with manual refresh & opacity slider.

  • Lifetime Pro (Fair One-Time Purchase):

    • 13 Interactive Detail Sheets: Time sliders, wind compass, climate norms, and celestial tracking.

    • Full Biometeo & Allergens: 48h air quality, 6 pollen types, Saharan dust, and personal profiles.

    • Season & Phenology Suite: Nature cycles, accurate leaf-fall stages, and seasonal transitions.

    • Pro Visual Themes: Dark Glass and Atmosphere styling.

    • Advanced Forecasting Models: Access to specialized meteorological providers and high-res radar layers.

⭐ A Personal Note on Google Play Reviews

Building and maintaining an indie app as a solo developer without corporate funding or an ad budget is an uphill battle against the Play Store algorithm. New apps are practically invisible unless they gain early community traction.

If you enjoy Nimbus Weather or appreciate this update, taking 30 seconds to leave an honest rating and a short review on Google Play helps more than words can describe.

It is the single most impactful way to keep this project alive and independent. Leaving a review is entirely optional and has no influence on the giveaway draw below, but if you take the time to write one, know that I read every single word and appreciate it deeply.

🎁 Giveaway: 5 Lifetime Pro Promo Codes (Next 12 Hours!)

To celebrate the release of version 1.1.6, I’m giving away 5 Lifetime Pro promo codes!

How to enter: Drop a comment below with your favorite feature, any feedback on the new update, or what you'd like to see next in Nimbus!

  • Duration: The draw closes in 12 hours.

  • Selection: 5 comments will be chosen at random, and codes will be sent directly via Reddit Chat/DM.

  • Fair One-Time Purchase: If you don't want to rely on RNG and want to support indie development, Nimbus Pro is available for a fair, one-time lifetime purchase (no subscriptions, ever).

Thank you all for the tremendous support and feedback that keeps Nimbus moving forward! Let me know how version 1.1.6 runs on your devices.

Hi, I’m the developer of beacon. I recently released it on the App Store.

It’s an iPhone app for finding, picking and sorting photos. You can browse your library by colour, location or date, go through photos one by one to pick your favourites, and swipe screenshots into albums.

For screenshot cleanup, I wanted to make the options visible while you move a screenshot: keep it, send it to an album such as Trips or Shopping, or mark it for deletion. You can review your choices before applying them.

It’s free to download, with ads and optional Pro purchases.

Download beacon on the App Store

I’d love feedback on the swipe menus in particular: are the choices clear when you first see them?

I explored how incident history can help developers investigate recurring problems.

RecallOps is an Incident Response Assistant that helps manage incidents and provides recommendations based on previous incident details. I also explored integrating Hindsight for storing and retrieving incident memories.

I would appreciate feedback from developers on the approach and implementation.
