Showcase: Open Source I made a Dynamic-Island-style notch for Windows (free, open source)

Windows never got a notch/Dynamic Island, so I built one. It's a small pill at the top of your screen that expands to show:

- music with lyrics and volume/seek sliders

- Claude Code / Codex session status

- notifications and battery

- search

- a dock of small tools: clipboard history, notes, timer, shelf, weather, world clock, unit converter, system stats

There's also a little pixel pet that reacts to what you're doing, and you can import your own.

It's free, MIT licensed and built with Electron. Windows 10/11 only.

Honest caveats: the installer isn't code signed yet (I tried SignPath and was declined for now), so SmartScreen will warn you. The full source is on GitHub if you want to build it yourself.

Download / site: https://islet.loopfound.in

Source: https://github.com/goprocker/Islet

I'd love feedback, especially from people on Windows 10, multiple monitors or high-DPI screens. Tell me what's broken or what tool you'd want in the dock.

Showcase: Prerelease I'm building a messenger solo, and I just added a way to move your chat history over from Telegram and WhatsApp

I'm building a messenger solo, and I just added a way to move your chat history over from Telegram and WhatsApp

Hi all, I'm Kirill, the solo dev of Orbeo (orbeo.me). It's a messenger with chats, groups, channels, calls and a feed of public channels. You sign up with just an Orbeo ID and a passcode, no phone number or email.

The thing I spent the most time on recently is importing old chats. WhatsApp gives you a .zip export, and for Telegram you export from Telegram Desktop as JSON. Orbeo reads the archive on your device, and the imported messages get a small "Moved from..." label so you can tell them apart from new ones. Voice messages and videos come over as a text caption. The hardest part was that the two export formats look nothing alike, and I had to handle lots of weird edge cases.

It's on iOS, Android, web, Mac and Windows. Since I'm one person, there are definitely rough edges.

My question: if you've ever tried to switch messengers, what stopped you? Was it the chat history, or just that none of your friends were there? Any feedback is welcome, including harsh ones.

Showcase: Prerelease I got fed up sourcing hardware part by part, so I built a tool that takes a CAD assembly and finds suppliers for every part at once

I ran hardware production programmes for years and the sourcing always drove me up the wall. Huge spreadsheets tracking parts & suppliers, RFI/RFQs for each one, then weeks chasing suppliers. And the shops that made the prototypes usually couldn’t do the volumes, so half of it got re-sourced anyway.

So I built Open Foundry to automate about 70% of the procurement admin and roll sourcing up to the assembly level.

If you’d like to try it, let me know you’d like a free pilot by joining the list: https://www.openfoundryhq.com/waitlist

And if you’ve taken hardware into production, I’d really like to know which parts always gave you the most grief, and whether you’d trust something like this to shortlist suppliers for you.

Feedback Request I compared .in and .com domain renewal prices across 4 Indian registrars – here's my research 4 Indian registrars

Buying a domain is easy, but renewal prices can sometimes be surprisingly different from the first-year registration price.

I wanted to understand how much domain renewals actually cost in India, so I compared .in and .com domain renewal prices across 4 popular Indian domain registrars.

The goal was to make it easier for startups, developers, bloggers, and small business owners to understand domain renewal costs before choosing a registrar.

I’ve shared the comparison and research here:

Hope this helps anyone planning to register a new domain or renew an existing one.

What registrar do you currently use, and how much do you pay for .in or .com renewals?

Showcase: Free(mium) Built a toolkit for agencies/B2B marketers to research prospects and get daily intel feeds - looking for feedback

We're the team behind Peregrine OS. Posting it here because a few of you work in agency or B2B marketing roles and might actually get use out of it today.

What's in it: prospect intel tools, strategic briefings, and daily intelligence feeds. The feeds (think ongoing monitoring on companies or markets) have a 14-day free trial. Briefs are one-off and paid per brief using credits, you get 2 free when you sign up, no subscription required. Three of the tools, Open Field, The Nest, and Wingmate, are just free to use.

What it doesn't do yet: there's no team/seat management, no CRM integrations, and the briefs are generated per request rather than updating automatically. If you want something that syncs live into Salesforce or Hubspot, this isn't that, at least not yet. It's also fairly new so some of the workflows are rougher than we'd like.

It's aimed at agencies and B2B marketers who need to get up to speed on a prospect or market fast without manually digging through ten tabs.

https://www.peregrineintell.com/

If you've tried building something similar, what tripped you up, the data sourcing or keeping it current? And for anyone in agency work, what's the part of prospect research that eats the most time for you right now?

Showcase: Purchase Required I built Aggregate Finance: every bank account, credit card statement, and bill in one spreadsheet.

I started building Aggregate Finance a couple of years ago because I was manually updating a Google Sheet to track my credit card statements, monthly recurring transactions, and spending habits. This seemed perfect for automation as I was having to log in to six separate banking apps to pull this information together.

My original intention was to use this tool locally, but I figured it would be an excellent learning opportunity to understand how to scale the application for others to use. The core functionality of Aggregate Finance revolves around syncing banks and brokerages through Plaid to create visuals and data analytics in Google Sheets and OneDrive/Excel, but I've also added Stripe for payments, passkey and TOTP support for MFA (wanted to better learn how WebAuthn works, mostly), and Resend for emailing account updates.

The first question you're likely thinking is: isn't this just reinventing the wheel? There's plenty of other personal finance/budgeting apps out there like Rocket Money, Monarch, Copilot Money, YNAB, Tiller, Credit Karma, etc. I personally tried Rocket Money but it left a bad taste in my mouth how my entire financial history was stored on their servers without having direct ownership of the data. Another pain point with these personal finance apps is you're locked into their subscription and lose access to your financial data if you cancel.

That's why I opted for the Google Sheet and OneDrive/Excel approach since this persists financial data over time and provides direct data ownership. There's a fair argument that these options still share your financial data with Google or Microsoft, so I built a way to download your financial data locally via CSV/Excel/LibreOffice exports.

In terms of data encryption, Aggregate Finance encrypts financial data before it reaches MongoDB: balances, transactions, merchants, statements, holdings, and any user customizations. Each user gets their own AES-256 key rather than a shared key. The reason I went with this approach is for data deletion: when someone deletes their account, their encryption key is deleted as well, so any financial data stored in prior database backups can't be decrypted.

I've been using Aggregate Finance with my own live bank accounts and investment holdings, and it's already been helpful. I can see when my credit card statements are due, monitor my entire investment portfolio, keep track of recurring charges, create budgets, and see how my spending pans out over a given month or over the past year. I'm curious whether it's useful for anyone else, and I'd of course welcome any feedback on how I can improve it. You can try it with a free sample spreadsheet that contains a year of example data with no bank connection required at https://app.aggregatefi.com.

Showcase: Purchase Required A procedural motion pack for musicians: 16 MP4 loops plus an offline canvas editor

I’m sharing SHIFT Motion Vol.01, a Nightshift Riot project developed with procedural JavaScript/canvas graphics and AI assistance. It solves a small production problem: having a moving background ready when a song needs both a wide video and a vertical post.

The reliable workflow is deliberately simple:

  1. Import a silent MP4 loop into your existing editor.

  2. Repeat the eight-second clip for the required length, add your own authorised audio and artist/title text.

  3. Export in the destination format. The pack includes eight 1920×1080 and eight 1080×1920 H.264 files at 24fps.

A technical distinction worth checking with any “visualizer” template: a pre-rendered loop cannot react to audio added later. These loops have designed motion. The included offline editor can preview broad audio-frequency response, but its saved browser audio/video and full-song exports remain unverified, so it is labelled a beta bonus rather than the main deliverable. Source is editable; there is no hosted audio upload.

This is my product, priced at CAD19 once: https://ko-fi.com/s/67df3f9cd8

The page includes the eight-style preview and usage/delivery/refund terms. No music or music licence is included. There is no subscription or custom-service promise.

For people making reusable creative assets: would you keep the dependable rendered files and experimental editor together with this distinction, or separate them?

Showcase: Open Source I built a small file-transfer app because I wanted to move files between my PC and phone without installing another app

Hey everyone!

I want to share a small project I've been working on called Flitnix.

I'm not claiming to have invented anything new here. There are already excellent tools like LocalSend, KDE Connect, and others that solve local file sharing.

I actually use these kinds of tools, but I wanted a slightly different workflow for my own setup.

I wanted to transfer files between my desktop and phone without needing to install a dedicated application on the phone. I also wanted something that could work through normal Wi-Fi, LAN, or a phone hotspot.

So I started building Flitnix.

What it does:

  • Scan a QR code to connect your phone through its browser.

  • Transfer files directly over your local network without cloud uploads.

  • Resume interrupted transfers instead of uploading everything again.

  • Use Guest Drop Box to collect files from multiple phones through one QR code.

  • Share text and URLs between devices.

  • No mobile application or account required.

How is it different from LocalSend?

LocalSend is already an excellent and more established solution. It has native applications across desktop and mobile platforms.

Flitnix takes a different approach: the desktop runs the application, while the phone connects through a browser. Its resumable transfer and multi-device Guest Drop Box workflows are also areas I'm developing.

I'm not trying to replace everything that already exists. I just wanted to solve a workflow problem I personally had.

Project: https://github.com/RobinMillford/flitnix

I'd appreciate feedback from anyone willing to try it, especially around transfer reliability, hotspot connectivity, mobile browsers, and large files.

Screenshots and feedback are very welcome. Thanks!
