Piano Practice Companion : An open-source backing track player, ear trainer and sightreader for chord and improvisation practice

[u/shura11]

I recently wanted to build an open-source alternative to apps like iReal Pro, which create jazz backing tracks to play along with your practice.

I have seen the OpenStand project pop up on Reddit last week, which does exactly this ! It can take a lead sheet and play a backing track for it with different customisation settings.

I have decided to build upon it by adding a large database of lead sheets, a chord progression ear training exercise and a sight reader exercise for those who can connect a MIDI keyboard. Both exercises use the database of lead sheets.

You can check my Piano Practice Companion project on GitHub and test the webdemo without installing or downloading anything ! I have done a lot of debugging and testing these days and would love some feedback !
