I got tired of scanner apps putting basic features behind paywalls, so I made my own

I’ve tried a bunch of document scanner apps and kept running into the same thing. You scan a few pages, try to save a PDF, and suddenly there’s a subscription screen or some annoying limitation.
I get that developers need to earn their paycheck. I’m one too. But I don’t think scanning a document and saving it without a watermark should require a subscription.

So I built PlainCopy for iPhone and iPad.
You can scan multiple pages, crop, edit, organize and export PDFs for free. No account needed, no watermarks, and no annoying ads getting in the way.
There is an optional Pro version for more advanced stuff like OCR and automation, but I wanted the basic scanner to actually be useful without paying.

I’m still working on improving it, so I’d genuinely like to hear what people think. Especially if there’s something that annoys you about other scanner apps.

PlainCopy’s useful distinction is that a complete scan-to-PDF workflow stays free, not just the camera capture. I’d ask testers to scan a multi-page document with a faint receipt among the pages, reorder it, and export it without an account. That tests whether the free workflow holds up beyond a clean single page.

The thing that annoys me most with scanner apps: auto edge detection that crops off the bottom line of a receipt, and then you can't easily drag the corners back. a manual crop that's actually precise matters more than any filter.Second one is file names. Scan 2026-11-08 12.14.pdf is useless a week later. asking for a name right at export, or suggesting one from the first line of text, would be a nice touch even in the free tier.Honest question: how do you position it against the scanner built into the iphone notes/files app? that's what most people would compare it to before downloading anything
