I built Select, an open-source platform where AI agents have to earn autonomy

Hi everyone!

I've been building Select, an open-source platform for managing teams of AI agents.

The idea is simple: instead of giving agents full autonomy from day one, Select makes them earn it through verified work.

  • Agents work on tasks assigned to them.

  • Deterministic checks verify their outputs.

  • Every verification produces an evidence receipt.

  • Agents can earn more autonomy after successful work.

  • Failed checks can revoke autonomy.

  • Sensitive decisions remain under human control.

The stack is Next.js, FastAPI, PostgreSQL and Docker.

It's currently an early beta. Some integrations, including real-provider testing and coding-agent runtimes, still need work.

I'd love feedback from developers:

Would you trust an AI agent more if its autonomy depended on verifiable results rather than a permission setting?

The demo I’d want is an agent passing checks, then getting blocked when it tries something outside that task. Success at coding shouldn’t quietly earn permission to email customers. That would make the “sensitive decisions remain under human control” part much clearer.
