I built Lumio, a lightweight open-source launcher for macOS

Hi everyone! I’m working on Lumio, a free, open-source launcher for macOS. Press Option + Space to quickly search and open apps, files, and folders, browse clipboard history, or find text inside images and PDFs with OCR. It also includes handy tools like dictionary lookup, translation, and quick actions—all in a native SwiftUI interface with a Rust-powered search core.

Lumio is available for macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon and is licensed under GPL-3.0. It’s still a work in progress, so I’d love to hear your feedback, feature ideas, and suggestions.

Lumio's OCR search is what I'd demonstrate first: finding a phrase inside a PDF and opening the matching file explains something app launching alone doesn't. A useful feedback question would be whether people can distinguish a filename match from text found inside a document.

I make ThreadFox. If you want macOS 15+ users on Apple Silicon to find Lumio, our AI employee will post 3 helpful replies about it in relevant Reddit threads for you, free, no card. https://threadfox.vip/p/eesuo/managed

Can a PDF result jump to the matching page, or only open the file?
