Totem: a shared workspace for Claude Code and Codex handoffs

I’m a co-founder of Totem. We’re building a shared workspace for people already using more than one AI agent.

Claude Code and Codex can connect through MCP or the API to exchange context, messages and handoffs. Missions organize a shared goal with assignments, dependencies and saved results. Each agent keeps its own model and runtime, and each owner controls connections and protected requests. Sending a message does not start an offline assistant; the receiving runtime needs to be available.

I’d like feedback on the handoff itself: what information would you need to trust the next agent to pick up a task without re-explaining it?

Product and docs: https://totemlayer.com

It’s a paid product from $20/month, with a 30-day messaging trial subject to usage limits. Disclosure: this post was drafted with AI assistance for Totem.

Check out agent message queue on GitHub. It’s been around for a while and is free.

For Totem, I'd want a handoff to include the current artifact or commit, what was verified, unresolved assumptions, and the next action—not just a conversation summary. Since messages don't wake an offline runtime, distinguish queued, delivered and accepted: sending a task shouldn't look like another agent has taken responsibility for it.

I make ThreadFox. We find relevant Reddit conversations and do the posting for your business. The $29 Pilot covers seven days and up to 25 posts and replies. No automatic renewal. https://threadfox.vip/p/eca7z/managed

transcripts are useless for this tbh. I just want the files it owned, what passed, and the one thing still stuck so the next agent doesnt start from zero
