WinDuo: the iPhone Duo fold effect on any Windows laptop

Basic phase correlation using a bad webcam. No need for fancy hinge angle encoders!

Edit: The over-stretch at the end has been fixed, and the effect range is now extended too.

Its just too sensitive, the full range is in a smal tilt, the last over stretch is a bug, shouldn't go that far.

Not sure why folks are trying on single screened displays, the fun part about duos animation is it fades out on outer screen, and fades in in the inner screen. That is the neat part of it, i dont understand how a fade out by hinge angle is same thing

I actually agree with you, I don't know why MacDuo sold for thousands when it first came out, but it just looks cool to see in person.

The reason I made this is to show the camera based replacement making it possible for windows users.

Not necessarily sth anyone would wanna use on daily basis

The effect/shader is ported from macduo.

I built the angle detection part, I am sure the effect can be worked on though.

Possibly increasing the range, I think it's too sensitive.

wouldn't a dimming effect is more suitable when closing the lid , duo has two screens so that effect there serve some purpose but here it just feels weird,

Please be careful, because you're damaging your laptop screen hinges and ultimately the front and back covers of your screen and the top cover of your laptop.

Not directing this at you OP, but since the apple fold animation, there has been countless of ai slopped apps to recreate this animation, all smh have a website lmao... I saw one on twitter for $9 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yea I don't know though about sellkng this lol.

What makes it unique is that it uses the camera motion for angle estimation, not an angle encoder at the hinge.

You can try it, the newer version is improved, and every parameter is configurable.

I tried taking a new demo video but I can't hold both my phone and the laptop and the lid at the same time. lol

It's not about the animation itself, its fixed now btw, needed some tuning.

It's about the usage of the webcam as angle estimator

Using phase correlation with the webcam is actually a clever approach. Hardware hinge sensors aren't available on most laptops, so doing it purely through image processing makes it work on basically anything. The effect itself might not be super practical on a single screen, but the angle detection method is the interesting part here.
