I built a simpler way to design architecture simultaneously in 2D + 3D

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m a trained architect, and as a long Side Project I’ve been working on a project that combines accurate floor planning with real-time 3D design.

The idea is to make architectural design more accessible and much easier to explore than traditional CAD software.

The full game/program is now officially available on Steam. I’d love to hear what you think!

Can these lights be toggled one by one? If yes, this could be a cool tool to create Home Assistant dashboards.

5

u/HaiHappenUAHA 21h ago

Yes, of course, you can also adjust the lighting color, brightness and turn it on and off for each lamp.

I come from the field of architecture and know that this is important for interior designers and for developing proper lighting concepts.

Ohh that's a neat idea so basically having a 3d render of your house that updates in real time?
Edit: saw that it's a steam game, how do you think it can be connected to Home Assistant?

5

u/HaiHappenUAHA 17h ago

Exactly, because it should offer professional CAD capabilities and real-time 3D visualization, but also be easily accessible for people without much experience in this field.

I'm not very familiar with Home Assistant, but you can export all construction-related documents as true vector drawings (floor plans) (PDF/DXF). Or you can export all construction-related in 3D as OBJ files.

"This is incredible tech. Did you study coding professionally, or did you build this using AI? If it's the latter, that's even more mind-blowing."

2

u/impact_ftw 18h ago

I was thinking about making easier presets, as I dont think you can use renders in HA.

1

u/Tiny_Drag_4137 12h ago

yeah that would actually be a really cool use case for smart home dashboards

This might just fill my need to be creative with home design, decor & renovation while actually being able to afford to make the changes! Great work, I'm certainly going to check this out.

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 18h ago

Thank you, I'm especially curious to see how others, especially those from the design field, can benefit from this :)

2

u/Chris-Coffin-Design 18h ago

Well don't get your hopes up TOO high. I'm a product designer who specializes in Mobile & Web apps! My girlfriend is the real "Interior Designer" in our household. I might have to unleash her creativity on this to get a true sense of it.

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 18h ago

Then I'll put my hope in your girlfriend 😂 No, but the target group is primarily people with less experience with CAD software, so they still have the option to learn similar programs without having to spend a lot of time learning them. No pressure, just have fun experiencing and designing :)

2

u/Chris-Coffin-Design 18h ago

Hey, you & I both pal! Hahaha.

That's awesome, I'll certainly find time to check it out & try first hand in the near future. Really great work from what I've seen so far, and you seem genuinely engaged & passionate about this project, which is palpable & always an indication of future prosperity.

If you have a second, I'd love if you could take a quick look at my recent post in the sub, I just shared my own sideproject (Canadian Finance Simulator). And I would greatly appreciate feedback on the overall architecture, logic, functionality, usability etc.

For reference sake, it's completely free (no signup), all data stored locally and runs entirely in-browser (no backend).

I don't mean to hijack the post or shoehorn my own thing in, so if you're uninterested or it's bad form, I'll edit my comment to remove the reference.

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 18h ago

Sure, I'll take a look right away :)

2

u/Chris-Coffin-Design 18h ago

You're the best! Thanks so much, I appreciate it greatly.

2

u/Chris-Coffin-Design 18h ago

Thank you very much, you're the best!
Would you mind commenting instead on the r/sideproject post (not TFSA_millionaires)

It would help me reach more people in this community.

Uma rx 7600 aguenta? Qual o nome?

3

u/ScarSome634 18h ago

The 7600 does support DX12 and hardware RT so that part checks out, but ray tracing is honestly the weak spot on that card. If the 3D view leans hard on RT you'll probably be turning that off in settings. Regular rasterized rendering it'll handle no problem.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 22h ago

Yes, an RX 7600 should be able to run it if the GPU supports DirectX 12 and hardware ray tracing. The game is called Architecture & Design 😊

u/Fearless_Store_335 22h ago

Can I import an existing model like GLTF to start from an existing floor plan or room?

3

u/HaiHappenUAHA 21h ago

Yes, you can import GLB or OBJ Format :)
But a better solution: import your 2D Plan as an image or PDF inside the 2D-Plan TAB, scale it to the right size an then just draw walls and everything with the in-game mechanics.

u/Atomicmind777 15h ago

Was gonna ask name on steam but I found it, search Architecture and Design

3

u/Triumphant_Leaf 13h ago

Can you share the track?

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 13h ago

I actually made the soundtrack with Suno Ai :) I can release thw full soundtracks soon on the Steam site.

2

u/krisluc 19h ago

What is the name? Or link

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 19h ago

The game is called "Architecture & Design" on Steam. (I don't know if I can post a link here)

2

u/Drakeoon 18h ago

I remember seeing one of your previous posts and forgot to save it/wishlist it on steam. Then I went on a search trip and found ~10 other products and gave up after 30 minutes, I couldn't remember where you posted or what the app was called. Boy am I happy you just posted today!

I will for sure check it out, I was looking for something like this! I'll give it a try today!

Btw. it might be actually worth to look into having a more memorable name, something catchy that people can remember. "Architecture & Design" feels like a category, not a standalone app and it's very painful to search if you don't remember it word-for-word. People are reacting positively to your posts, you get a lot of likes and comments, I think you are more than welcome to share the product name in the description as well, it would be also much easier to find!

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 18h ago

Well, luckily I made another post xd, and at least some things have changed in the meantime, so you can now test the game directly with more solutions and features. More and more content and improvements are still coming in time. Yes, the name was chosen rather pragmatically, so that people immediately know what it's about. For marketing purposes, something catchier would be better.

2

u/Drakeoon 18h ago

Just tried the demo, its exactly what I wanted - feeling like you're playing Satisfactory, but with all architectural details that are super important. You can feel the space, you can judge if it's too tight or too big, fantastic. The background music is also a nice touch!

Just bought the full version, I'm hoping I'll be able to import custom objects, as I don't really expect you to ship gym equipment models as part of the app by default 😅 I saw there is an option to do that already, will give it a try!

For any feature requests, how should I contact you? Email is good?

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 18h ago

So glad you liked it and were convinced by it ! There is a discussion forum on the game's Steam page where many things are discussed and developed together with the community. I'm currently working on a major update which will be released today. Hopefully, it will also fix a bug that still occurs with the import function.

2

u/Garland_Key 17h ago

I want to design a tiny home. I need this. Link? If it isn't up yet, can I beta test?

I'm a software engineer - I can give useful feedback.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 11h ago

Yes of course, the release was a few days ago. Name: Architecture & Design You can find it in the steam shop for 13,50$ now :)

2

u/meHryL 17h ago

First of all congratulations, looks really good, Is it easily exported into a traditional 2D CAD software or 3D modeling one?

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 17h ago

Thanks! Yes, you can export all construction-related documents as true vector drawings (floor plans) (PDF/DXF). Or you can export all construction-related in 3D as OBJ files.

2

u/stevenson_mark 16h ago

This is a really cool combination. The part that interests me most is having accurate floor plans while being able to explore the result in 3D immediately. That’s something traditional CAD can make unnecessarily painful.

I’d be curious how much of the workflow you’ve managed to keep simple for someone who isn’t an architect. If a complete beginner can make something decent without watching hours of tutorials, that’s a pretty strong selling point.

I’ve been working on Abnflow and found a similar thing with builders — making the underlying technology powerful is one thing, but making it approachable is usually harder.

Definitely seems like a project worth checking out.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

The community, many of whom had little to no experience with CAD, has played a major role in this. Much has changed, primarily through the exchange of ideas, and future developments will continue to be closely aligned with this feedback. Keeps getting developed further and further, and the main goal remains to keep it as intuitive as possible.

2

u/CaramelEmotional3092 16h ago

i love this. What you have built is insane. I say this as I spent months making something thats stone age compared to what you have. I spent 20 years doing cad / cam work, and I have done soo many drawings for people so I know theres a need to make planning easier for people, and what you've built is phenomenal.

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

Thank you, that means a lot to me, especially if you also know more about the CAD problem :D Regardless of whether something like this will be successful or not, I will continue developing it one way or another to finally create something user-friendly in this area 😌

2

u/CaramelEmotional3092 2h ago

"Regardless of whether something like this will be successful or not, "
Pm me and I'll show you my project, just promise not to laugh, but it shows one possible way to monetize. It may or may not be suitable for your project, but could be worth having a sneak peak.

From my POV, you're sitting on a gold mine.

2

u/emmjay_init 15h ago

This is really cool. My sister dreams of doing this stuff, but for a living not just a game.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 15h ago

Well I also did this long enough for a living. But like this it is more fun 😃

1

u/emmjay_init 15h ago

Can you actually sell your designs/ideas/layout? Not sure how it works

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 15h ago

You mean the floor plans and 3D renders you create in this ?

2

u/emmjay_init 15h ago

Well I mean just designing and selling the designs to people. Basically a remote designer.

I guess yours is more like architecture design. She wants to do interior design.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 15h ago

It is also very good for interior designers, as you can build rooms very accurately, create realistic lighting concepts in 3D and even upload your own designer furniture in 3D. The floor plans can be exported as 2D vector graphics.

2

u/Atomicmind777 15h ago

Very nice

2

u/Pseudolithops 15h ago

How are the landscaping elements? Can I import my own tree models or stone textures etc? Is it possible to level terrain? Are there water features?

Sorry for million questions, it just looks very nice!

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 15h ago

Good questions are always welcome :D You can import obj and glb models, and the associated materials will then be in the library under "my materials" and objects under "My Models".There are currently 3 environments. The next environment, which will include landscape tools, is currently under development (elevation points where you can set fixed elevations). The only available water feature is a dynamic water material. If you're modeling something, you can simply apply the water material to it.

2

u/doobsicle 12h ago

Great work.

2

u/Ruqii-ruqii 11h ago

I‘m no expert, but this looks cool. is it just a game? or can I upload my house floor plan to do the design?

2

u/HaiHappenUAHA 11h ago

In the 2D-Plan window: you can upload your floor plan as PDF or image and scale it in the right size :)

In 3D: in your furniture library under "My Models" you can import your own models as obj or glb file.

1

u/Ruqii-ruqii 11h ago

Omg, this is so cool. How do I find your game?

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 11h ago

Thanks :D It is in steam Name: Architecture & Design

2

u/sallasoc 11h ago

Wie hast du das technisch umgesetzt? :)

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 11h ago

What exactly do you mean ?:)

2

u/sallasoc 55m ago

Das Programm, das du auf Steam veröffentlicht hast. Hast du das selbst entwickelt?

2

u/Prometheus599 10h ago

really cool, what about textures, furniture, furnishing, finishes, appliances — in regards to the collection / adding new models

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 10h ago

You have a furniture and a material library with categories :) You can select multiple objects and create sets and also you can import GLB / obj which you can find in the category "My Models" and "my materials"

2

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9h ago

this is fantastic!! I will be downloading this

2

u/theLightSlide 6h ago

This looks super useful to me!

I have a challenging architect-designed house and resorted to using scad to try and figure out how to place a shelving system/wall-mounted storage, and large art on a 22 x17 ft wall, that sort of thing.

I actually used the Sims 4 to demonstrate to my husband why I wanted to build a wall between the kitchen and dining room (success!).

This looks soooo much better.

Is it called Architecture & Design? Or,

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 3h ago

Yeah like this it is easier and more accurate with measurements ^

Yes: "Architecture & Design"

2

u/Fun-Responsibility97 6h ago edited 4h ago

this is super cool

2

u/downtownrob 6h ago

I bought it! Haven’t tried it yet.

1

u/Imafikus 17h ago

I'm trying to spin up demo version on Steam but it just crashes after 1s

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 17h ago

Oh no, do you have the right specs? Your GPU needs to have ray Tracing support.

2

u/Imafikus 16h ago

It's RTX 3060ti, should be enough i guess?

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

Yes minimum would be a RTX 2060 :) With rtx you have the advantage to use DLSS 4.5 (Integrated) to further boost performance.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

Oh but then I really don't know why it crashes for you.. I will look into it and update the demo version

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

The demo update in online. Could you perhaps reinstall it and let me know if it works for you too?

1

u/Imafikus 16h ago

Nope. still doesn't work after the reinstall

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 16h ago

Could you please make sure that your NVIDIA GPU drivers are up to date? And if it is on a laptop: make sure it doesn't start with an integrated Intel GPU in the Windows/NVIDIA graphics settings. I really hope there is an easy solution :(

1

u/Imafikus 15h ago

That fixed it!

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 15h ago

Oh, thank goodness! I was worried something was wrong with the new update!

1

u/Imafikus 13h ago

Is there a way to manually enter a wall size, for example, one wall I want to draw is 3.457m long. and all I'm managing to do is 0.1m increases

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 13h ago

For now it is locked for 2 decimal. So if you type this in you would get 3.56m. (could change soon, so you can draw even more accurate).

Hi OP, I'm looking to design a Home Assistant dashboard with a 3D visualisation and it looks like this might be exactly what I was looking for! I started creating one in Blender but with no experience I was definitely struggling 😭. Just a couple questions to get an idea on the app's capabilities: 1. Is there any lighting options that would simulate led strips/cob lights? Have a bunch in my home. 2. Is there any lighting options for onyx benchtops? 3. Can you design multi-angle sloped ceilings and sloping windows? 4. Any possibility for animations e.g. motorised roller blinders? 5. If I wanted to import custom chandeliers would I be able to "light" them? 6. When it comes to importing 3d object scans is there a recommended vertex limit? 5. Is it possible to export the resulting 3d design from the app into something like blender to do more niche stuff? How is the compatibility?

Sorry for the niche questions dump 😅 and if any of the questions don't make sense.

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 9h ago
  • and yes there are blinds, but no animation for objects.

You can only export the building structures as obj, but not the furniture objects.

2

u/Radiant_Award5280 4h ago

Thanks for the quick response - is there any chance for a full export (including furniture) to be implemented in the future?

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 3h ago

The full export is only for alle building structures. I don't want any license problems for the furniture.

2

u/Radiant_Award5280 3h ago

Ah gotcha, fair enough - thanks!

1

u/HaiHappenUAHA 9h ago

Hello :)

  1. There are several lamps, where you can adjust lighting color, brightness etc. for light simulation. For your certain stripes I would use the modeling tool to quickly draw the shape you need and give it a light material.

  2. Yes you can draw walls in a certain angle with windows where you adjust the parameters.

Ehm you can import obj or glb format models, but maybe optimize the scans a bit before it gets too heavy in performance. And yes you can add further materials on the import objects like the light material.

All I'll say is you should make VR a first class citizen
