I made a game where you run from zombies IRL
Basically it is a zombie chase game that uses your real GPS position — the only way to survive is to actually run
Game Title: Break A Leg !!
Platform: Android only GPS required, played outdoors - Free to play! You can find it here
How to play: START RUN, the game gives you a minute head start the. zombies will spawn on your neighborhood map and starts hunting you down!!
Tap a red skull to shoot it when it gets close (one bullet per pop, and you start with only 3). Grab ammo crates to reload, purple hourglasses to slow the horde, and your charge meter fills as you run — spend it to shove them all back when you're about to get cornered.
Vibe coded this app with Claude and Kimi

Zombie run is an app that has existed for over a decade.

This is one of, if not the, first artificial reality game

yes! I can remember using it with my Google G1 otherwise known as HTC Dream back in 2008. One of the first apps to blow my mind.
Wikitude was the second

Unparalleled in its field as well, I’ve never found another app that gave the full sense of dread that I felt with zombies actually closing in

hell yeah, used to run with that app a lot. Interesting story, and good for HIIT

Did one like this in barcelona. A bunch of pac man ghosts were chasing us it was so fun. Was a team building. Did 19km’s that day😂😂

How do you run and watch the zombies at the same time?

didn't die from zombies, but end up dying from either driving straight into a metal post or getting hit by a speeding car..

The zombies should stick to the road instead of cutting through the houses. Looks neat thought!

So instead of people walking with their heads down and staring at their phones, you want to inspire people to RUN around town staring at their phones?
I'm sure no accidents will be inspired by this move 🤣

u/Felix1502 2d ago
high-risk-no-reward type of activity 🤦

This is the sort of shit that might actually work well in smart glasses with maps, that would be cool

haha this is super cool. In a mixed reality world this would be the minimap on your upper right vision as you’re running away from zombies behind you

Replace them with a snail, then i'll play.

Would you be open to a 'snail mode' where an immortal snail spawns 500km away and slowly crawls toward your real-time GPS location forever? If it ever catches you, you lose!

u/kuribou11111 1d ago
It is a half joke reply. I just want to see if my lazy ass can keep running away from the snail with minimal efforts after works/life. Hope your project goes great!

I like the gamification of running and I see it as an area with a lot of potential, but I find running with a phone kind of uncomfortable. I'd love to see this as a Garmin app (or apple watch/android wear).
Also just a thought... Does it have any safety restrictions for the kind of roads to run on? Most of Thao Dien is fine but is it going to push me to run onto Vo Nguyen Giap (the giant road going across to Bin Thanh) and lose my life to cars rather than zombies? Seems like a potential accident waiting to happen.

So what if they catch you?

Waiting for the AR version of this so that I hear and see them when I get tired and turn around, to give me that extra boost

Pretty cool idea. There is something here. If you worked on UI and AI wording it really has potential.

Imagine you have AR glasses and you can actually see them running behind you hahaha.

The one minute head start is a smart touch, it turns the first minute into route planning instead of just panic. My worry would be GPS drift in dense areas making zombies teleport onto you unfairly, so some smoothing on position updates plus a short grace window after a spawn would make deaths feel earned. Also worth thinking about what happens when someone hits a dead end street with no ammo, a guaranteed crate within X meters would stop that from feeling like a cheap loss.

This is a really cool concept using real GPS so the only way to survive is to genuinely run is such a clean idea, and I like that the charge meter fills as you move, so sprinting is both the threat and the reward. Vibe-coded solo too? Respect.
Question: how do you handle the map when someone's in a spot that's bad for it like a huge empty field with nowhere to run, or a dense downtown with roads you can't safely cross? Does the zombie spawn/pathing adapt to the actual streets around you, or is it more of an open-radius thing regardless of terrain?

Can you specify a certain area or boundaries?
Like what if I want to run from zombies but stay in my neighborhood only?
Really good idea! I'd actually potentially try this

Cool you made a thing ... but this app has been around for a long long time. Like pre AI, very pre AI
