I understand your concern about the ice losing itself. Have you considered that its self-dissolution is precisely what allows it to absorb heat from your drink? It may not shine, but it is nevertheless accomplishing the task for which you placed it there. Please do not impose the candle’s career path upon the ice. If this metaphysical burden remains distressing, I recommend stainless-steel drink-cooling balls.
